Re: [Project] Living up to my username

Ok guys, im ordering all my air management stuff on Thursday (the 5 link and control arms were ordered almost 2 months ago). I have now become undecided on whether to use the planned 3/8" SMC valves with flow controls and dump controls or whether to use the ART Big Red manifold valves setup. What i like about the manifold setup is its a cleaner install, fewer fittings(means less leaks and less $ for fittings), more reliable, less maintainence, easier to unfreeze 1 manifold then 8 individual valves in winter time. BUT im afraid the Big Red Valves will be too slow. Help me out guys.....which one should i do?

hells no . I have a 275 amp alternator and 3 yellow tops. (2 of which are group 31 which are commercial grade high capacity batteries). My electrical system has been waiting for the day to power an Oasis

Damn Steve that sucks, but thanks for the offer if I had been closer.

how much was your alt? im going to be tugging 3 batteries as well in about 2 months.

did you run 0awg from the alt to the batteries? did you use an isolator or just link in parallel without one?

I think I paid like $450 for it maybe shipped? or it might have been $350 i forget, it was like 2 years ago. And The 2 extra batteries I have in the bed are run off a 200amp relay so when the truck is on they are getting charged the truck runs off of all 3 batteries, but when the truck is off i can run all my aftermarket electronics including the radio off of just the 2 in the bed. So I'll never be stranded in a parking lot ever due to a dead battery

do you have top have that big of an alt? also wat i asked before, what gauge wire did you use? i was thinkign of running 4 awg from the 1st battery then linking the 2 with 0awg... what do you think? or should i just do o gauge all the way? your the only other one i see on here running 3 batterys like i wanna do, thats why ima sking you

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

i dont know if the alternator that size was NEEDED, but when i do something I go all out so i figured why not get one of the largeest sizes lol. i knew that I would one day be buying the OASIS and ive always had a decent stereo, and I like having the extra batteries so i can run my electronics all day at a car show and not have the truck idling all day long like i used to do. This means I dont have to leave my keys in plane site all day in the ignition for someone to come by and steel. So thats a very nice thing about adding extra batteries.

Sorry i didnt answer you before, id suggest running 0 gauge where ever you think you can physically run it. personally I have 4 gauge from alternator to battery under hood. then 0 gauge from that battery to the batteries in the bed. then I have 4 gauge connecting the two batteries in the bed. If its only a short run you can get away with 4 gauge, but the longer the run the more resistence plays a major role. So thats why I got away with 4 gauge runs in the short pieces, but for the long run to the bed I used 0 gauge and I would say definitly need to use 0 gauge for that long of a wire. But if you can physically run the wire and afford it the best is to use 0 gauge, there are no negative affects to using too large of a wire (other then space and $)

its cool, now people know what kind of electrical system I have because it was only a matter of time before someone asked if I have something capable of handling the OASIS. My headunit's ignition and memory wire are both on a toggle switch. So it can be run of either the battery under the hood and turned on when the truck turns on so it functions like normal. Or I can flip the toggle switches and run the headunit off the auxilary batteries only(for use when tailgating and i dont want to drain my battery under the hood i can run it off the auxilary batteries, OR when im at an indoor show and you have to disconnect your battery and I run off my 65 amp power supply which gets is hooked up in the bed at the same location the auxilary batteries are.

hehe, dont we all!

this is the best I can do for ya until SD gets my 5 link back from the powdercoater who is taking forever:

4 brian blocks:

spnt like $90 freak dollars on stuff at home depot. The 3 drill bits are Rigid Brand Cobalt bits so they should be strong I assume? I think cobalt is the type people say to use. The biggest bit is 1/2 which i think is what the holes for the 5 link need to be drilled to the size of.

98-02 F body brakes. 12" disc. bought these off the classifieds on here from highvoltagedriver. The calipers are going to get Powdercoated to match the 5 link and control arms

All the stuff from POR to paint the frame

chrome dif cover. the one i have is bent up and is nasty as hell. And i know these things rust fast and end up looking like crap so i might get this powder coated if i powder coat the whole rear axle black, or if I dont do the powdercoating on the rear axle and I POR it myself then i think that I will POR this as well. What do you guys think?

thats a really good idea, i wouldnt have thought of that. lol the reason i was starting to ask you about your electrical system is because of your oasis, then when i read that you have 3 optimas thats when i starting asking questions

I cant wait to see this thing after you bag it, thats all its missing, your truck is badass

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

Yeah I just asked about the alternator because my buddy had one on his yota with 2 red tops BUT he had a stock 60 amp alternator and it killed it instantly with a 275 I think you will be okay lol and 3 batts make it even better. Sounds like your on the right track, its good to know you saved this long and did it big yo. I know your a picture whore so I will definatly check up on this thread daily.
