i'm sure it was said earlier, but what's the reasoning for shortning the driveshaft?

because at full lift when i tested it the driveshafts was shoved into the tranny as far as it would go and wouldnt allow the truck to get any more lift. it actually never got to full lift. And same thing would happen when aired out, it would bind up im sure. this happens because at full lift and dropt all the way the axle moves forward slightly because the front link bars are relatively short. the shorter the bars the more you suffer from the axle moving forward, its just simple geoemtry.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

oh boy, its that time again, more pictures, and these are probably the most pretty and most satisfying pictures of the whole project in my opinion:

the cutest little air filter ever!

ok all the above pics were progress from saturday, from here on out was tonight good battle with the carrier bearing crossmember. This is the first thing on this project that i truely hated doing and really wasnt any fun at all. I cant stand rivets, I absolutly hate them, and working under the cab on back under the truck sucked ass. but nonetheles i got it done after fighting hard for like 4 hours. first the exhaust was in the way and the bolts to get the piece off the cat were so rusted and took so much force to get off, and ya ill stop talking, here are pictures:

notice how the thing hangs like 2" below the frame, thats the reason why this is getting replaced, it will hold me up from getting as low as i wanna go.

drill kept overheating, it was literally smoking so i put an ice pack on it to help cool the metal casing on it, which acts as a heat sink anyways, but the damn drill was burning up hardcore with the drilling out of the rivets haha

finally, i won!

test fit, ill bolt it in tomorrow, it was getting late and i was happy just to have the old one out of there. But notice how the bottom of the new crossmember is now flush with the frame. For those of you who dont know this is only an issue the extended cab trucks have to deal with

one more piece for the junkyard pile

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

the exhaust was in the way of being able to drill out the rivets for the crossmember, i couldnt get the drill in there with it in. ill put that pipe that goes into the cat back in, then ill eventually get around to buying a new muffler and finishing that up. But i noticed the Y pipe up front hangs damn low and its gonna hold the front up so i dont know if i wanna do somethihng about it or just see how things go. im only trying to lay body kit but i dont wanna put the entire weight of the truck on the Y pipe cuz im pretty sure thats gonna end up bending and breaking something haha. but ya thats a whole nother issue ill have to deal with later on. i might just have an exhaust shop give me an entire new exhaust. and I might wanna buy pretty headers since i wont have inner fenders anymore then have everything from there back custom made so i dont drag any of the exhuast...thats the most likely scenario.

weird never heard of that problem with an ex-cab. i know regular cab guys have to shortern theres sometimes.

and the exhaust on these things do hang to low, they dont really hold ya up, you tend to smash it after laying it out a few times then you drag it off, then you get annoyed with the loud exhaust and make a new one lol.

helps cool down/ventilate the rear end so it doesn't over heat.

I only used a hair more then half a quart of the the POR15, and about half of the pint of the top coat-blackcoate stuff. im amazed at how little was used. I put 3 coats of the POR15 on everything and 1 coat of the glossy coat on everything.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

yup, almost time to dig in to the front of this thing. ya i definitly wont be taking the truck to carlisle but im gonna be there all weekend for the show, i love carlisle and im excited that this year i will get to look at all the trucks and exhibits a lot more since i wont be tied down to my truck, so its kind of nice not taking the truck, a lot less to worry about.

I have been paint brushing the POR15 on, i dont have the equipment to spray.
