Re: [Project] Living up to my username

Thanks guys, appreciate the commets as always. Im definitly taking my sweet ass time, and sometimes i think to myself "god im a slow worker, some people bag entire trucks in a couple days and here i am taking forever" but oh well, thats what happens when ya live a busy life and cant dedicate full work days i guess. Slow and steady is working just fine for me.

havent gotten to the front yet, i guess im wierd and im doing the back first instead of the front. but here is whats instore for the front when i start it in about 2 weeks i guess. ive posted all the pics but here is a recap for ya.

And those are RE7s on the right of the pic for the front

And still need to order my no notch tie rods:

Here are my existing brakes, the calipers will get powdercoated the same blue as the rest of the stuff:

And Im using stock style spindles(actually from BAER, but they are the stock height version, not drop spindles)

And I guess Im gonna wanna buy trailer fenders for upfront but ill get that when I get closer to needing it. but ya, thats whats instore for the front

I cleaned up the axle(took 2 hours to do the center pumpkin part only of the rear axle, the axle tube parts I did weeks ago) and got the first coat on the rear end, and the 3rd and final coat on the frame. Both pieces look absolutly amazing. i cant wait to see the blue ontop of the black

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

worked on the axle today...
this is after my initial flap disk sanding job but before it was really really covered in flaky rust crap

ya this stuff was a bitch to get off

ready for paint (by my standards anyways lol)

after first coat. The more coats I add the more glossy it will look.

now...I think i have seen people ditch that hose that connects to the axle and replace it with one of those mini air filters. Is this ok to do? cuz this hose has no home on this truck. The one end of the hose appears to be plugged anyways, so anyone wanna care to help me out on this?

And i got the 3rd and final coat on the frame.

Yea take the hose off and put one of those little air filters on. I got mine from AutoZone for like $5. No problems, and a lot of people do it.

thanks for the suggestion but each coat i do i just move the location of the jackstands and move the position of the axle. The first go around i was able to paint 99.9% of the thing except for where the jackstands were. So Ill just keep moving it around. I just came in from applying my 2nd coat to the axle, and i also just cleaned up and painted the first coat on the evap canister bracket/tray.

Thanks man, ya I post a lot of pictures, some might find it aggrevating that i post so much, but for people who are seeing this for the first time or are trying to learn how to do it im showing them EVERY step of the way. Its kind of a teaching aid id like to think. And Ill just pretend like I didnt read your rice comment haha

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

so ive learned that applying multiple coats helps make it a little more glossy, but it is just to flat for my taste, and im not about to start making sacrifices so I ordered some POR blackcote which is a top coat and its use it to make a glossy finish, it is meant to be applied after the regular POR15. So whats another $31.25 including shipping right? lol.

just make sure the por15 doesn't see sunlight alot, it will make it turn flat in color and lose the protective abilities

this top coat also makes it UV protected, so then it will be able to be out in the sunlight and be just fine.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

so im kinda thinking im not going to bother getting the air tank crossmembers i made powdercoated. Im worried the blue's wont match due to different powdercoaters. ao im thinking just POR15 them. anyone think this is a bad decision?

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

ya...this way suspension is blue, and other parts are black. kinda keeps things designated as to their purpose, so this way you will know what the 5 link is comprised off because it is all blue and everything else is black. Although i do still plan on powdercoating the calipers, but now its only going to be the calipers, nothing extra.

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

where do you take your stuff to get powder coated? and how much do you think they are gonna charge to just do the calipers? i think that is a great idea by the way.

another question, where did you pick up the f-body brakes and how much. you can PM me if you dont want to share on here...

thanks Mike. I called two local places....one said they dont like doing automotive stuff but they do sometimes. but they are backed up so they said at least 3 weeks but they said they wont do any candy colors. I talked to another place and their site says $75 or 80 a caliper i think but thats for non candy/metalic colors and i want them candy blue so it said there is an additional fee for those colors, so im sure it would put it over $100 a caliper. So then I further looked into a place call TRG: http://www.trgcoating.com/powder.php They are in New Jersey so I will have to ship the calipers to them, BUT its only $35 a caliper! So thats an amazing deal, and I knw people who have had this place powder their stuff and it looks great.

The F body brakes I bought off a member on here: highvoltagedriver for $250 SHIPPED. That included the back plates, aftermarket drilled/slotted rotors, calipers, and pads. I call that a steal

Re: [Project] Living up to my username

got the evap/charcoal canister bracket painted tonight with 2 coats, go the 3rd coat on the axle, and got the first coat on the tank mounting crossmember bars that I decided to not powdercoat.
this is after the second coat....it was dark when i put the second coat on...so ya ya ya i know i missed a spot.

this would be my highly sophisticated paint both that I made in 2 minutes with 2 screws and a wooden dowel and some twine haha. but here are the 4 air tank crossmembers:

ughhh. guess i need to paint the gas tank now dont I? would like kinda outta place i suppose.

holy moly. that is one hell of a deal. i wish i could get that lucky! LOL. only bad part is that im actually looking for a full rearend, because mine has a 3:08 gears and open diff. so im lookin to get a 2wd blazer rearend with posi and disks. just waiting to find a good deal on one.

I tell ya what man, i really love that POR15. everything is gonna look sooooo clean when it's done. almost a shame that it's gonna have a tub to cover all the beauty, but i would do the same. dont want all that dirt flying up in the bed.

if i may make a suggestion... herculine the underside of the wheel tubs and bed. i think that would be a clean look as well.

i just figured id use more of the POR15 for the underside of the bed, so far I have only used like half of one of the quart cans. so I have only used 1/4 of what i bought.
