[Project] Live-On

well i think its time to make this finally. some may have seen me mention this in other posts. My friend Jimmy passed away this past couple of weeks, he was going 120 and lost contol. ripped through a a telephone pole. But i know if jimmy was going to go it would be flying in his camaro. this 94 z28 cam was his dream car, he always wanted a lt1 6 speed and finally got it. You will see in the pics it was struck on the side. the motor and tranny are ok, i know he wouldnt want the car to be crushed. So i got it to put the motor and trans in my s10. Now you know the story and the name behind it

then of course here is where its going

Nice project.

But I don't think I could tear it apart after a friend died in it.

I hate to hear about your friend, I lost a friend in a crash last year. I hope that everything works out. Be careful when you get it out on the road. Good luck I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread.

Re: [Project] Live-On

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope this is a life changing lesson to you. Having said that. I know that in life someones loss is another ones gain but this is just weird to me. I agree with Woody22 and wagonproject.

Re: [Project] Live-On

yeah i know it is very different, jimmy loved this car and finally got it. i know he would not want it to be crushed.

lee mil, a couple of friends and me went over to see his mom a day after the funeral. jimmy had 3 cams at the moment before he passed. and she was talking about what she was going to do with them. she mentioned that this one was going to get crushed. then asked if it was in fixable condition. i said maybe the motor. she then asked if we new another that would be interested in any of the parts. i said i might be in the motor to put in my truck. then she said well if you pay the tow bill you can have it. so i paid it and the whole family loves the idea of me putting the the motor in my truck. they are waiting to see this done so we can go lay a patch infront of his grave.

yes it was very akward to get in it and tear it down. all of our friends are helping and my friend chris who was with jimmy in the car when it happened.

I like the idea of this project. I'm going to go ahead and subscribe to keep track of how it turns out. Are you gonna do some sort of sticker or personalized tags in memory of him or just tell people if they ask about the swap?

Re: [Project] Live-On

thanks for the good word on the swap idea

now on with the pics!!!

first we jack up the weight of the motor

they were trying to take pics of me

slowly let the motor down after completely unbolted. we just un bolted the cradle. seemed the easy way. my friend ricky lowered the tranny as i lowered the front

got her out!

missing something?

tryed to un bolt the bell housing and pull it. but it didnt work that way we had to un bolt the tranny from the bell.

Re: [Project] Live-On

then took out the pressure plate fly wheel and clutch (needs a clutch)

then unbolted the cradle and disconectted the rack lines

so much easier to put the stand on the motor then the other way around

then it was time to cut the car up

yes this is the whole car on the trailor

now its time to get parts i guess. if any one has any info at all on this lt1 let me know. i am very new to it. i couldnt have done this with out my dad and my friend ricky, thanks guys

so much easier to put the stand on the motor then the other way around - that's smart, I wouldhave been the dummy and done it the other way around.

Make sure to keep us posted with lots of pictures.
