Project: Jamie, about time I figured out what I wanted and got to it!

So first a little history. I bought my Sonoma in 2003. It's a 1999 GMC Sonoma 2.2l 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual transmission, 2wd, standard cab. I have cruise, a cd player, carpet, and that's about it as far as what came in the truck, as well as the stupid DRL's and the auto headlights. This was my first vehicle at 16, and I haven't been able to just give the damn thing up! I've wrecked it 10 or 11 times now. I lost count. It's been all over Western Washington, and most of Portland. It's served me well.

So, I went back and forth for years that I was going to build the truck low. I didn't want to bag it, just low enough I could corner better and the likes. I was hanging out with all the ricer kids, street racing and such. Then I figured out, that really just isn't me. So up she goes! I'm just waiting on the tax return to clear, and I'll finally buy my wheels and tires, and the spindle lift kit needed for the truck. Nothing outrageous, just need it functional. I see a lot of shall we say...roads that need love...as in potholes the size of my tires, and I've whacked the tail pipe quite a bit...so I want to put the truck in the air some more.

Mods I have done so far: First was my Cervini's ram air hood.

The truck has Line-X, the single best investment I have ever put into a truck.
I fixed the armrest with a part from s10warehouse on ebay, and the adjustment levers that replace the weak stock ones.

The truck has a little body damage, deer and guard rail, and me not paying attention, whacked my mirror off. But here's the start....and it's going to be a long road ahead. My mirror should be in Monday! I hope

Lift spindles: Ordered
Lift Shackles: Ordered
Replacement seal for door: Ordered
Ball Joints upper and lower: Heading to order
Tie Rod ends: inspecting, then ordering as needed
Shocks: ordering new all 4

Wheels: Ordering tomorrow when credit card stops catching fire spontaneously
Tires: Cruising CL for a good used set until I have more cash

On top of that new tabs - my bank account just cried!

I know! I've seen a couple and love them, that's part of what made me want to do it.

Today: Wheel bearings and rear shocks picked up

Just ordered the wheels....

Tires...still cruising, any of the PNW guys have a set of 31x10.50/15's lying around?

Re: Project: Jamie, about time I figured out what I wanted and got to it!

Cost of building a prerunner style truck that's a street queen mostly:

Spindles: $300 off ebay, for Doestch i.e. AIM spindles. Normal retail is 378 plus shipping
Shackles: $38.95 off ebay, from Crown Suspension
Wheels: $246.41 with wheel caps for the centers, Baja -8 Style wheels from Jegs. 15x8 and 3.75" backspacing
Tires: $1009 bucks with Washington state tax of 8%, I bought Wild Country XTX Sports in a 31x10.50R15, same as what is on my 4wd Ford Ranger
Upper and lower ball joints (can get these with lower A-arms, I did not order them this way, as my lower A-arms are fine): $143.96 at O'reilly's for Moog (get a good quality part, it may save your life. Don't cheap out. Most ball joints are about the same price)
Shocks (front): $87.98 for Monroe Sensa-trac. These are a good shock, built for towing and hauling, I don't see a ton of dirt but I do haul often. So this is what I went with.
Shocks (rear): $109.99 again Monroe Sensa-trac, load adjusting shock, they look much like a coil over. Again, I won't see a ton of hardcore dirt, mostly a logging road or two, so I went with something for towing and hauling.
Wheel bearings: $44.94 this includes inner and outer bearing, seals, and bearing caps. Again, pick a good bearing, it may save your life!

I also bought brakes for the whole truck, and I am not going to figure these in, just a word to the wise, most of you should know this...if you are going to tear into the truck, you might as well do it all anyway while you are in there. I bought a used SSBC kit for the GMC, that also converts the rears to disc. I will see how it operates, and let you know.

Here's another word to the wise, if you are buying an S10 or Sonoma, and you are just getting into them, and lifting them, you better act quick, a lot of parts are starting to disappear, even from 5 years ago. Mostly because the trucks aren't being made anymore. Doestch is the only company I have found, other then those that still have stock piles of the Fabtech spindle, that is still making them. Otherwise they are eBay specials, and I know a lot of guys here are running those spindles just fine. But I have some trust issues with off brand parts, even those made by people that are reputable, and are just rebadged for a different company. But that's mostly if I don't know. So go forth good lifters of Dimes, and wheel the piss out of it!

Um, I expect her to be a PIG!!! But I have been looking for a blazer rear to bring the rear end out just a bit. Then I can get one with 4.11's as well. So hopefully that helps, until I can buy a new gearset

I know no one reads this thread, so I'll post here anyway! HA

Um...does it always suck this bad after months of preparation, fore thought, and saving....only to be waiting on the damn postal services to send you your stuff? Not only has my credit card caught fire randomly, but the snails in my lawn are making a faster pilgrimage then my parts. Zzzz USPS, UPS, Fed Ex...you suck lol I guess that's the joy I get for paying no shipping for anything on this build.

Received today - Two Hella 500 lights, not the best but good enough for what I want right now!

Also I have two side mount tool boxes to go in the side of the bed. They are white. I'm going to paint them black, then mount them. It's going to be a hell of a weekend.

1. Remove tail lights
2. Place 1 in front of both front tires
3. Run over 5-6 times
4. Proceed to JY
5. Insert tail lights

Other than that, looking good!

Lol I still have my stock tails. I am going to put those in again. Then maybe upgrade to the LED's at some point that look like regular tails. But this is one good way to get a laugh first thing in the morning. And almost blow cheerios out of your nose lol

It has begun...lifting in process!

Quick question for the 2wd lifting crowd..did you have to remove the sway bar to get the rear shock off? Or am I just retarded? Well any of you guys probably know this lol

You should only need to remove a nut near the leaf springs, then two nuts/bolts at the top, then remove the shock.

Got that. But I need to get it around the sway bar. I think I just need to raise the rear end up so I can get the shock off around it.

you might have to, but the only reason it should have one is if it's a zq8 (check the glovebox) or some added one in later

Re: Project: Jamie, about time I figured out what I wanted and got to it!

(Not my truck) But I have the same black bar that is on this truck. Which unless I have gone retarded is a sway bar correct? It isn't the correct size for a Zq8 truck, so I'm guessing aftermarket. I sure as shit didn't put one on lol. Maybe that's what explains why mine has always handled better then my buddies 98 with the same options...

The other this is it sits to high for a zq8...unless the old man that owned it before me had it lifted for some stupid reason, and it has the wrong wheels, but I have seen weirder! Wait...I'm lifting it now...oops lol

1010 total, wheels were 200, but well worth it. I don't cheat myself on tires, did that for years. Won't do it now! I have the same set on my 4wd Ford Ranger, and they are at 50k with tons of life left, well not tons, but plenty till I can save for another set! The ones on the Ranger have seen everything from sand to snowstorms, so I bought another set knowing they'd cover my ass no matter what I threw at them.

I'll throw this out too, got the last set on sale for 730 mounted and balanced. We have Les Schwab Tire Center's out here on the left coast, they treat customers well. I wasn't waiting for a sale to get the tires though, no way! So I'll spend the money and got them at full retail.

Oh, and those are the same size 31x10.50/15, the wheels on the Sonoma are 15x8 the Rangers are 15x6 I believe. I know they are similar in size,

This is what they look like on the Ranger

Um...apparently Zq8 is listed in the truck tag...now where are my 16 inch wheels and that! Damn it! If I had the 16's and the suspension like a ZQ8 I'd have never touched this and slammed it, but I'm to far committed now!

Haha! NO, I'm keeping it for a future Dime project! I've been wanting one for years...then I find out I have one, as I lift the ****er!

Oh and apparently somewhere along the line...my wire for my spare tire carrier broke...and I lost my spare tire...I hope to god it wasn't on the free way or something. But since I haven't seen anyone diving for a ditch while I was driving, I assume I lost it somewhere ok, or someone stole it....

I was dyed in the wool, can't make me buy a Ford, because I am a GM man...until that Ranger...95000 miles in 5 years, 31 states, and a lot of crap. Been one of the best trucks I have ever owned. I wouldn't trade it for the world. It also was inherited from my late Grandfather, I'd trade the truck for one more day of fishing with him. In fact I still carry his lunchbox for work.
