(project)....i hope its done someday....
Anyways...i got this truck 2 or 3 years ago...'98 2.2l regcab regbed. it was tangerine-ish in color and had a really shitty bagjob. i drug a hole into the gastank...caught it on fire welding...motor was full of water...etc. It also had through-cab bass, which i wasn't excited about. so i tore it all down. now i'm starting to build it back up. i got a cab, frame, rearend, and a box of goodies from the guys at suicide, they do great work by the way. i was so pleased with the control arms and 4 link...super thick and beefy.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
i'm trying to finish cleaning up the frame, i have a couple of welds to finish. my goal for the back is to lay out on 32" tires... i don't know if i'll be able to accomplish this but i'll at least be able to get 30" tires.. i know the fronts fine with the control arms and everything. i coated the frame with some bedliner and its turnug out pretty nice...really shinny.

Haha, I remember the day we pulled this truck up on the trailer with a four-wheeler. I wondered if you still had this truck. Its nice to see the progress. It already looks a lot better than it did when I saw it.

I think I would box that rear frame section where the c-notch was installed. Looking good though.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
You need more support on the notch . Box in the frame and overlap the notch .

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
i can pick the rear support up with my hands, shack it....move it anyway and there isn't much flex, if any. i could gusset it. i'm not done installing the links...i have to set the pinion angle. bu i'll test it all before i'm done. i need to get the motor and cab set and that'll show the real stress.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
for any wondering...the notch is out of 2x2, i/4". i've never worked with square tubing that big so the bitch is a monster. but square tubing notches are a little more work than a plate notch.....but when it's finshed, painted and stickn outta the bed, i think they look sick. so don't be afraid to takle it. it did take me like 6 hours to mock-up the top piece though..its all about staight cuts with the chop saw.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
We just made a suggestion that will help you down the road . A boxed in frame will only add support to the structure . It is better to be safe than sorry .It would suck if you were at highway speeds and the notch cracked and break at the weakest point . What are you using for a welder ? The reason I ask is , it looks like the welds are not penetrating , the bead is a bit high . I would not use a 110 volt gasless MIG for any frame work . For frame work , you need a deep penetrating weld from a 220v MIG with gas , or a TIG . I hope you don't take offence , everyone had to their first job one day. My issue is about safety and if you need help or advise , the are dozens of people here that are more than willing to help out . What are the plans for the rear suspension ? 3 link , 4 link . |

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
no offense at all....i'm here for advice and criticism. i'm using and arcrite...its runs off 220 and is made by miller.. i'm using a suicidedoors.com superlift 4 link......btw i think the frame will be boxed b/c i might stockfloor bodydrop it.
i don't think i'll have as much fun ridin and shown off as i do building it. i'm learning so much....i get this crazy drive to work on it....like 16 hours a day and days at a time..... thank you for the advice and criticism. |

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
i'm about to cut up the middle for the sfbd...majority of the frame has bedliner on it...which turned out good. I'm having trouble laying the front out on 29" tires....i'm going to wait on fvckn with that until after the motors in and cab is on to see if the extra weight will drop it some....30 series tires suck...they look like ruberbands...but if i have to, i have too. pics to come within the next couple of days.although they look alot like the ones i've already posted.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
latest stuff i've done. been busy with NastyGirl training this summer, and my son was born. the 4link is in, and i'm satisfied with the turnout. i've been putting little effort to notch for tierods. its gettn there. i'm tryn to get the square tubbing for the sfbd. i'm running 29 and 30 inch diameter tires...29 in front and 30 in back. after the sfbd is 3/4 done, i;ll start workn on the drivetrain (5.3l, 5spd). One thing i've learned is that i will take the extra time and make a frame from the firewall back. definitely.

Re: (project)....i hope its done someday....
i bought it from a guy named terry, both of us live in florida in the same town. he used to own and audio shop called traffic james. he bagged it and filled it with bass....won some comps. it was a his shop one day and his g/f back into it and after that it sat, FOREVER. Then oneday i came along and made him and offer. I've had it for like 3 years and just started fresh with it. all i have left of the original truck is the cab and frame. I'm starting on the sfrbd today and i'll be posting more pics of that \later.
