Re: [Project] GreyScale - Shaved, Bagged, and V8'd 4-door 1st Gen

As usual, things aren't going as fast as I'd like on the truck. I'm liking the way it's turning out though. I was working on it till about 11 tonight and got sick of sweating my ass off and being mosquito bate. Here's a few pics of what I'm doing though.

Here's what the setup looked like when I started

And here's some of the work I've been doing to get the compressors and tank mounted between the framerails above the rear axle.

This is the tank bracket I made that spans across the stock shock towers

Here's the tank bracket installed

You can see how it mounts to the shock tower here

Here's the new slim 5 all plumbed and ready to go.

Ya, I got that for Christmas but haven't had the time to install it on the bench the way I should so for now it remains portable.

Cool man. Glad you found it. Hope some of the info helps out. It's been a big learning experience. I'm going to Havoc this weekend and I'll have some new pics of the rear air setup after I get back. The V8 is great but gas mileage sucks. I guess it just depends on how much you plan on driving it. I'll be puting over 1000 miles on it this weekend.

The interior is far from finished. I'll be taking some pics next weekend probably. I still have a lot of little things to take care of on the air managment. Then some small things to look at on the engine, then I'm relocating the batteries to the back of the truck. THEN I'll be able to start on the interior.

Re: [Project] GreyScale - Shaved, Bagged, and V8'd 4-door 1st Gen

Seems things can never be easy. I got the ignition fixed with no problem. I threw the steering column back together though and it has a ton of slop. I can pull the wheel out about a 1/4" and the shaft drops right out of the bearings. No clue what's causing it. The hub is mounted all the way down on the steering shaft and the "c-clip" is reinstalled in the notch like it should be.

I spent some time fixing leaks on the tank. Still haven't had a chance to run the air line to the bags. I've sprayed the tank down with soapy water about a dozen times. I don't hear any leaks now or see any bubbles. Did a leak test last night with it up on jack stands.

Pressure at 10pm
Tank: 160 psi
Bags: 100 psi

Pressure at 6am the next morning:
Tank: 100 psi
Front Left: 60 psi
Front Right: 40 psi
Rear Left: 90 psi
Rear Right: 70 psi

Still a lot of room for improvment. The bag pressure was about what I expected since I haven't changed out the hose or checked the fittings at the bags. Before I reworked everything the front left bag would be completly aired out in the morning. I thought the tank pressure would be better after all the work I've done. No idea where I'm losing it from.

Re: [Project] GreyScale - Shaved, Bagged, and V8'd 4-door 1st Gen

Looks like the truck's going on hold for a couple months. Just got word they're shipping me to Karlsruhe, Germany for two months to work. I'm hitting a local cruise this weekend and MAYBE Dropt N Destroyed on one of my trips home. We'll see how I feel when I get back. Sucks that I have to miss 2 months of good truck working weather but I can't pass up this chance to hit Germany, get some OT pay, drink beer on the job, and drive on the Autobahn.

Re: [Project] GreyScale - Shaved, Bagged, and V8'd 4-door 1st Gen

Someone asked me about how difficult it was to do my LEDs so I figured I'd post my answer here in case anyone else was interested.

Thanks man. It's not extremely complicated. It just takes a lot of time and patience and planning to get it right. I'm not sure how much bodywork experience you have. If I didn't do it with a friend it probably would have cost me a fortune in labor hours.

Tail light fillers take a lot of time to put in on their own. If you want them to look right you can't just weld them in and slap some body filler on them. You can see in the pic below how the top of the filler had to be cut in small sections so I could be bent to match the body line. Then all those slots have to be welded shut and the welds have to be ground down. Once they're installed the slots have to be carefully cut into the fillers and studs need to be welded to the inside of the fillers for the led buckets to mount to. After that's done the lenses have to be epoxyed in place then sanded down to the same level as the body. After that you have to do all the body work that's normally associated with shaving anything.

Thanks to Pooch and everyone else that helped make these look right. I think it's the last set of tail light fillers he'll ever do. The tail light fillers and leds are Custom Classic items purchased from Street Issue Customs. Thanks again to Doug at SIC for the great customer service and Mike at Custom Classic for building the custom buckets.

Re: [Project] GreyScale - Shaved, Bagged, and V8'd 4-door 1st Gen

So, I was just told the trip to Germany for work was canceled. They may be sending me to Austria for 2 months the first week of October though. Should find out next week. Before I go, I'm taking the truck to a show up near Flint this weekend and then to the Dropt Out show on the 27th and 28th. Then it'll probably be put away for the winter since I probably won't be back till Thanksgiving.

As far as the truck goes, The air setup is complete now. All under the truck, all run with Parker push-lok fittings and grey hose (had to match the trucks theme ). I love that stuff. Super flexible and it seals great. I aired it up to 120 psi and checked it the following night and the gauge hadn't moved.
I'll try to get some pics up before this weekend.

That stuf sounds pretty cool! You have any pictures of the fittings and all the stuff under the truck? Does it look like shop Air hose? What is the price? Per Foot or for so many feet?

Yeah I saw that. The only problem is the UM car show is the same day, and I gotta support my school lol. Even though the Owosso show will probably be a lot bigger and better lol.
