[Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
As many of you have read, I've been saying I am going to bag my truck for a while now. Well the time has finally come! Graduation is a little more than a month away. I will have a BE in Electrical Engineering and I was just offered an amazing job that I never imagined would be possible.
So after saving up money, going through a little spell of good luck, and using my tax return, it's time to get this project under way! The game plan: I would like to start production on this near the end of april and hope to have it close to done in May. I don't have any experience welding and this is my first bagging project so I will have the help of my club - Exceeding Limits Truck Club. I plan on running a 225/40/18 tire. Using my stock control arms. Going to keep the inners in for the time being and I will look into relocating stuff in the engine compartment and removing the inners this winter. The parts list: Front 1/8" Airline - 50ft 1/2" Airline - 50ft. 96+ EDC kit 5 gallon tank (8 port) 200 PSI KP Single Gauge (2) 200 PSI KP Dual Gauge (8 pk) SMC 3/8" Valves (2) Airlift Dominators 2500's SD Cups PP ball joints (uppers and lowers) Switchbox 80 Amp Relay (8) SMC Valve Brackets Rear Gen. 2 Bridge Kit (without lower bag mount) Axle Bracket with Shoch Mounts 5 gallon tank (8 port) Airlift Dominators 2600's Round Tubs / Round cover combo Super-Pivot Raw SD 3 link (weld on) Sideways upper shock mounts Shock Stud threaded Shocks Misc. Fittings (4 cans) Zero Rust Paint - Aerosol - Crystal Coat Zero Rust Paint - Quart - Black 24oz Prep Step Powder Raptor Spray in Bedliner Kit Trainhorns Kit (maybe) Drag Blocks or Tow Hitch Balls Paint Brushes 3:42 Rearend with Disks I have already started collecting a few parts here and there and just put the order in for the EDC yesterday and bought the paint for the frame tonight, along with the PP ball joints. I already have the gauges, SD cups, and 2500 Dominators for the front. Also got a 10 switch switchbox from my buddy for free ![]() Here is how the truck sits now: (note - I have blazer composite headlights now instead of sealed beams) ![]() And this is how I hope it will look when this project is complete. ![]() Again, major production should be starting late april. Right now I am just in the process of ordering all the parts. Please check my list and let me know if you see anything that I am missing. One last thing, this is the little interior project I have been working on lately http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f26/pr...roject-341387/ Last edited by Kovz : 03-28-2008 at 05:48 AM. |

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
true. Im going to try to weld up some kind of brackets to keep the kit from getting crushed using tow hitch balls or drag blocks. either way, worst case, if it gets messed up, ill take it off, haha |

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
Ok guys, I need some expertise already, haha.
I picked up a 2001 Blazer X Rearend with 40k miles on it... 3:42 gears, GU6, Limited POSI Slip, Disk Brakes, 7 5/8". cost me $250 from the junkyard. not too bad! ![]() ![]() 1.) I need help finding calipers for it. New or used... where do i get them for a good price? GM part number? 2.) Also need brake lines. The 3 connecting to it were cut, so what all do i need to replace? where to buy from, etc. ![]() ![]() ![]() 3.) Do I get rid of the E-brake cables? Note: I will be putting up the rear ZQ8 sway bar for sale in the classified within a few days, so if you are interested in buying it, keep an eye out for it. Thanks in advance for the help! |

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
i meant "pretty sure" not pretty mike
![]() mike, you getting the 3 link? when you ordered it did you tell them that you are using a blazer rear end, if you didnt youre going to have to get a new axle housing bracket because the blazer one is more round and a lil bit bigger than the regular s10 rear end |

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
I don't think that's the ZQ8 bar; looks like it came from a 2-door Blazer since it's mounted to the front. I know the 4-door blazers had the rear swaybar that was the same as the ZQ8, but I think the 2-door models had something different. Not saying that it can't be adapted for a truck, but it may take some fabrication to make it work.

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
i thought blazer's had a different rear end housing than a s10, dunno, i know they make two different axle housing brackets though, one for the standard s10 rearend, and thena larger one for the optional rearends

yea, it is definitely the 7 5/8" rearend. In fact, I just ordered the Mr. Gasket Chrome differential cover for it from summit.

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
you automatic trans? if so you can throw the e brake in the garabge, its useless. brake lines you can pick up from napa. brake calipers, order from parts stores, ebay or even look into upgrading to bigger rotors and calipers.

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
I dunno if you are still wanting to do the ebrake cable or not but heres a thread taht i got the answer from. Hope it helps out dude
http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f13/re...r-rear-342974/ ANd ya dont do anything from the dealerships, i just called yesterday to see if i could get the brake line that connects from the caliper to the line thats connects across the rear pumpkin to the other side, and they wanted 60+ bucks EACH. And calipers, i got my first set with no brackets from autozone for 175, but needed brackets so igot them brackets w/ calipers for 100 bux at a local parts store. So get acouple of prices from different places to make sure u save yourself some money. I bought mine for 275 and thought, ''shoot i am not going to spend that much, sweet'' Well lets just say i am at about 700 just on the rear, ahaa |

Re: [Project] Graduation Present to Myself!!!
PLEASE do a bag on the bar setup man. You'll thank yourself when you don't have to redo the rear setup because you're sick of the stiff ride and minimal lift.
even with 2800's over axle you're not gonna get 10"+ of lift like I do with the cando 6 link. And the bolt-on setup is super simple to install and leaves a shitload of room under the bed between the frame to put the tanks and compressors |
