Re: Project: Cab Over
undercoating on the inside of a switch box!?! why not just tape the connections or use shielded connectors on the switches? seems alot less messy and simple.

Re: Project: Cab Over
most of the time you have to use ring terminals on your wires with little screws in the middle to snug them to the switch.
kind of hard to shield a ring terminal with a screw in the middle when the screw head has live power also. I think when i hit the switches hard a few times i loosened the little nuts that held the switches in their holes i drilled then it was spark time inside the box. i just sprayed the inside of my can switchbox with undercoating then put all the shit back in after it shorted out one time. it's not like undercoating is super thick. Re: Project: Cab Over
heat shrink tubing is for soldered connections.
how are you gonna heat shrink a ring terminal after you screw it to the back of the switch. the ring terminal is a crimp connector anyways |

Easy, you shrink tube it up as far as possible on the wire, then shring tube over the entire back of the toggle.

Re: Project: Cab Over
Wow man. The whole reason I bought my s10 was because I have a 1949 chevy 1ton panel. "AD" truck. My plan is to stretch my regular cab dime chassis and swap it for the old panel stuff. While Im doing the body on the panel , I am having some fun w my V8 dime. PM me if you wanna swap any info. I got tons of information and sources on a build like this.

Re: Project: Cab Over
I saw on the net the other day someone who made kits to put the older chevy trucks onto s-10 frames. Thought the link was on here but don't remember now.

Re: Project: Cab Over
Yeah there are a couple companies out there that make kits to put the regular trucks on to s10 frames. However my truck is a whole other animal. It shares none of the regular truck mounts.

Re: Project: Cab Over
here goes possibly my favorite update so far
We temporarily re-assembled the fenders, steps, inner fenders, and all the supporting bracketry. We did this to figure out how we are going to fit a radiator and to test how the supporting bracketry worked with the s-10 frame. ![]() |

Re: Project: Cab Over
Grille shell mounted up front (the chrome bars are detached so they dont get dinged up) Regular truck front bumper in process of being mounted. We had to heat and bend the bumper brackets as well as notch the bolt holes but it is ready to go on. It only needs 4 bolt holes drilled in the truck frame.

The bed is semi mounted. The rear mount has been made. We are in the process of making front mounts for it. The fender on it is junk and is just there for mock up. It also will be mounted lower on the bedside.

Progress made on dads '52. Passenger door back on and the hood back on. It needs a wiring harness, gauges mounted, seats mounted, door weather stripping and it will be ready to go down the road.

Re: Project: Cab Over
Center strip removed from the hood. It's actually made up of two parts. The outside part was shot. I am modifying a strip from a stock truck hood to work. We removed the inner section of the one for my hood and saved it, and took the outer section from a stock truck hood to be modified.

Using one of the stock s10 mounts for a mid-mount for the bed. Both the front and mid mount use a stock cross sill.

The rusty piece here is the stock radiator housing. The front sheet metal all bolts to it. It has been modified to work. The radiator will have to go more forward.

Re: Project: Cab Over
Here is a tip. Pull the plastic piece off the ring terminal. Melt some flux in its basin and dip the wire connection hole into the flux. Unsheath the wire insulation. Slip in heatshrink onto the wire. Slip the wire into the hole on the ring terminal. Heat the terminal with the solder iron and feed in solder (as if you were tig welding with solder). Let it cool, then snug the heat shrink over the solder connection and but the shrink up to the ring terminal then shrink it. The result is a soldered insulated connection with ONLY the ring terminal exposed. Extremely professional looking when complete and 100 million times more reliable than a crimp. |
