Project assportZ

well i bought this here scooter for my girl cuz she wanted one for school, and they are awfully handy for quick trips to the store and what not so i saw this on CL for like $180 or $200 or so and i went to check it out. i offered him $120 for it and we loaded it up lol, it didnt start but it turned over and it was a really good price so even if i couldnt get it going i could flip it for double what i bought it for, thats how it works around here...

so here are a few pics of before i really started doing anything to it

as far as i know this is actual! (but its probably not )

Re: Project assportZ

well the first thing i did was peel all the duct tape off of it... apparently it is the bondo of scooters lol, then i got a new battery for it.

i forgot to mention before that the electric start didnt work, but the kick start was ok... sort of lol, they had stacked washers behind it because the lever had fallen off or something... who knows..

anyways, i was looking around trying to see how bad they ****ed up the wiring before i bought it, didnt look too bad actually, i noticed a single glass fuse in a fuse holder down behind the battery tray, replaced it and the electric start works perfect now! you can kinda see the fuse holder in this pic, its in the bottom right its the gray/white lookin plastic thing with the red wire going into it

Re: Project assportZ

so i got it running half assed with the new battery, but it would die under ANY load, like even just reving it would kill it, so obviously its not getting enough fuel because the greater air flow from opening the throttle leaned it out enough to kill it. well i started pulling fuel lines off to check for flow and it seemed kinda slow... which when its not running is actually a lot of flow lol.... i know that doesnt make much sense but this is the vacuum controlled fuel petcock

the line on the bottom goes into the tube that leaves the carburetor, it pulls a vacuum on a diaphragm that lets fuel flow down the upper tube, when its not running it shouldnt flow at all, but i had fuel comming out of both lines.. so obviously the diaphragm is ****ed, so i replaced the whole unit, i bought it from a local scooter place called Scooter therapy, it was 15 bux

Re: Project assportZ

today i was working on it because i had the day off, so i tore the whole mother effer apart
(edit: i did take the whole front fairing off too, fyi, and both side panels, just dont have pics)

i had noticed the speedo didnt work so that was my first task today, and i noticed this line was broken.. lol

that is the cable that goes from the wheel speed sensor to the gauge

Re: Project assportZ

Thanks man! i hope i get her goin soon too!

i swung by Scooter Therapy again today to get some parts (i have a feeling im going to be getting friendly with them lol)

and the guy there was pretty cool, he told me that the cable i had he can useually get for like 18 bux, so he looked it up but he couldnt find the part anywhere, it just so happens that he had another scooter out back with the same cable on it, so obviously its used, i asked him about it and he said it worked when he took it off so i bought that from him for 10 bux, while i was there i grabbed a new pair of mirrors for it since the ones on it were toast lol, those were 20 bux, i gave him 30 cash and i was out the door

new cable

Re: Project assportZ

I took the carb off today too, and took it apart to clean it, i figured that was why it ran so shitty and would bog down and what not,
carb missing!

oh there it is, in my hand!

that black plastic thing on the right side is the auto choke, ive ran it with that plugged in and with it un plugged and it runs the same both ways so i kinda half assedly ruled that out

Re: Project assportZ

so i pulled the carb appart, top and bottom

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THE THROTTLE PLATE!!! its so freaking tiny!

anyways, i pulled it apart and the inside of the carb is spotless... so i just shot some brake clean through it, just to blow out any dust or anything that got in there while i had it apart

Re: Project assportZ

so after i put it all back together i noticed this little nipple thing on the bottom of the carb, like one of those things that looks like it should have a fuel line or something connected to it...

i guess i dont have a pic of it.. but it would be on the bottom left of the carb in this pic, the one you CAN see on the left is where i have the fuel hooked up to

so i was looking around in the engine compartment and was wondering if i was just not seeing a second fuel line or something but i couldnt find anything, then i noticed that the vacuum line running off of the cylinder head was EXACTLY the right length to hook up to this

its the line just kinda hanging there off to the left

so i hooked that baby up and took it for a test drive down the block and back,
it ran GREAT! so i think i solved that little lack of power issue... i hope, if not i might actually be making things worse lol, if anyone knows better please tell me!
im a newb to scooters so absolutely ANY HELP is GREATLY appreciated

Re: Project assportZ

since it seemed to be running so well i decided to use it to run over to the hard ware store and get some nuts and stuff for it, like to hold the seat down and what not, well it ran great on the way there, bogged down a little at stop signs but seemed to run great again once i took off, i did have to feather the throttle a little to get it going tho, i pulled up to the store went in, came out if fired right up and off i went, i hit the first stop sign give it gas to go again and it just falls on its face... dies... i try to start it but no luck, so i push it across the street and get out my jump pack, i brought it with just in case it didnt wanna start up, i jump it and it wings over, acts like it wants to start then nuthing... so i wing it over again... still wont start, so i push it all the way back home... try jumping it again when i get home and starts right up... so i drive it down the block and back, when i get back to my driveway it dies again...

so im thinking its the stator... generator... whatever you wanna call it...
but im not sure if thats what it is or not.. so like i said, any help or advice would be great!

also wondering where a good place to order parts from might be... i cant seem to find anything online, help?

Re: Project assportZ

last night i started it up after i had it on a battery charger for a while, fired up after a couple cranks, then i drove it for 15 miles straight, stopping now and then cuz i was cold, i would let it sit and idle while i warmed up, after about an hour and a half of effing around i parked it, then when my girl got home i taught her how to ride it, it ran fine during that too, then today i went out side fired up first crank, ran kinda sluggish for a minute then it ran great just like last night, so idk, maybe i just had to run it good...
so now i need to order a new kick start assembly, tail light assembly to get it all to my liking, then the mods ( i gotta get a new spark plug before anything )

first thing im gonna do is order a bigger carb for it, that tiny ass throttle plate just aint cutting it for me, then i might put a 70 or 80 cc kit in it, a new cdi, and during all of this i will be sanding all the body panels and re painting it, not sure what color yet tho, im just happy this thing is running good now

Re: Project assportZ

just ordered a new tail light and some new mirrors with turn signals in them because the signals, as you saw earlier, are just dangling there, so i figured instead of a whole new headlight fairing i would just get some sweet mirrors with lights in them! lol

Re: Project assportZ

I'm fixing to sell mine. It's been sitting for a while and I'm going to have to drain the tank, put new gas and seafoam in it, and take the carb out and clean it at the very least. It's a 125cc and will do 60mph, weighs like 500lbs, it's dangerous lol.

Re: Project assportZ

the black cylinder that is connected to the wire im holding is the turn signal flasher, and it also makes an annoying ass beeping sound when you use the turn signals, so i cut the wires, i made sure to leave space in case i wanted to re connect it in the future...

i ran back to work and grabbed a regular automotive flasher and some little wire ends that would plug on to the prongs and wala! turn signals that flash at the right speed again and that dont beep!
