Re: Project 83
i bought some supplies today, and started messing around with making my own halos. i got one that's perfect, but i cant seem to get the light to go to the top... maybe a less wide angle LED would do the job?
pics: ![]() Here is a close-up of my home-made halo! looks good, except i cant get the light to get to the top... ![]() here is a further away view of it. these will look sweet on something... i wanna find a way to incorporate them into my 83 somehow... maybe on the driving lights or fog lights... what do you guys think? |

Re: Project 83
i wrapped the back of the halo with my aluminum tape to try and reflect more light to the top. it definately cleaned up the base where the LED's are! and i think i even got some light to go to the tip
![]() ![]() check it out! better lighting and a bit more light distribution, all from a bit of aluminum tape. |

Re: Project 83
i tried spreading out the notches in the tubing, and it didnt really help...
![]() this is with the notches skipping every second cut. doesnt look even half as good... oh well. im still trying to get things perfect... ![]() here's a close-up. the fewer notches dont help with the light dispersal... dont know if its the material im using now or what... oh well... ![]() here's the twins. i made the second good one this morning. woke up at 8:00, and i couldnt do anything until 9:30 when everyone was awake hahaa! waiting for time to go by sucks! ![]() these look alot better than the half-notched one. i still cant figure out how to get the light to the top... the aluminum tape helps alot though, but its still not bright enough... im contemplating making another one, cutting it in half, and putting 4 LED's into the ring... we'll see how that works out. |

Re: Project 83
cut the 2 good ones in half and stuck another 2 LED's in them. i noticed on the one, its not a perfect circle... damnit
![]() mounted on one of the projectors from my headlight that broke ![]() daylight shot. this is the weird shaped halo... ![]() top halo is the perfect one. i gotta fix the bottom one, or make a new one or something... ![]() i think they look good now ![]() |

Re: Project 83
i was going crazy just sitting inside the house doing little shit, so i decided to go out and 'exercise my back, and keep moving' by working on my truck.
i did a bunch of stuff to the back end of the truck, fighting cob webs and spiders every step of the way! ![]() i dont know who thought it would be a good idea to weld the bottom bolt that holds the leaf springs together, but it pissed me off when i couldnt unbolt it. ![]() count em... yea, thats right... 5 freaking loaf springs! plus this thing had coilovers! wtf man... must have rode super stiff in the back... ![]() the rubber here is pretty cracked... good thing im not using the leafs for much longer... ![]() this thing is filthy inside... needs a bath or something... might just salvage what i can and grab another rear end at pick n pull. i dont even know what gearing this thing has... ![]() my angle grinder made short work of the welded on bolt. ![]() only thing is i need to find another bolt to put in there so the block doesnt slide around... ![]() got a bit carried away on the driver's side... its very light though... shouldnt hurt too much... ![]() sweet! mono-leaf! ![]() i couldnt get the u-bolts on the driver's side loose, so i cut them off. im using 1 u-bolt per side right now. its not like im putting any weight on it anyways (not putting the tires on and lowering until the bumpstops are chopped) ![]() as she sits right now. i like how an in-progress truck looks ![]() ![]() still gotta put on my roll-pan. i got some plans before i do that though... plans for tomorrow: cut off bumpstops detach ebrake cables from the drums maybe start to notch the firewall and fenders for the front tires... |

I got 9 stitches. 3 undr the skin, and 6 on the top of my right knee a few years ago when I was grinding the welds on my notch. I was using a 7in fiber disc with a 4in backing plate (D'oh!). Nice little scar. Be careful bro!

Re: Project 83
went out and got some more cut-off discs, and went at it again.
![]() cut the pass side bump stop off! came off easy as pie. i had to cut it a different way then what the tutorial i looked at showed *shakes fist* ![]() what i did was cut just before the welds on the bumpstop, then pried it off, then ground the welds off, then grinded it down smooth. ![]() dirty and just starting to rust underneath. glad i did this. ![]() nice and smooooooooth... well, not as smooth as it could have been, but the thing was loud, and i didnt want to bug the neighbors as much as i had already... ![]() undershot of the smoothness ![]() painted up so it doesnt rust. ![]() backed up view. i like how the frame contours without the stupid bumpstops ![]() driver's side before ![]() see the white line on the finger? the disc caught an edge and jerked the grinder out of my hands, and the disc ran up my finger. if i wasnt wearing my welding gloves, i would have probably lost a finger! these things are hella scary! ![]() this is as far as i got before that disc caught and ran up my glove. ![]() it only blew a little chunk out, so it wasnt too bad. i just grind on some fresh metal lightly till the wear is all even again. ![]() i dont want to have to do this for a long long time... or maybe next time, ill get a torch or something... cut-off discs scare me! ![]() noticed this after i put my gloves back on... the thing bit BOTH my fingers! ![]() another one bites the dust hahaa! ![]() here's part of the disc. when i was grinding, it caught and EXPLODED! very violently! i pried at that piece, and found that inside hahaa! ![]() here is the frame all smoothed up. this side was a pain in the ass! it killed 2 discs and i had to run to the store to buy another to finish it up. ![]() underside view of the smoothed frame. i was kinda worried about the sparks shooting at the gas tank... i guess there's no leaks hahaa ![]() didnt notice this till i got inside. the disc cut through the glove and into my finger. what kinda grosses me out is the cut is the same width as the disc... i could take the disc and it would fit inside the cut hahaa thats all for now folks! i need some u-bolts so i can set the bitch back on the ground before we go on vacation! |

Re: Project 83
you need to buy different disks. I cut off both bumpstops with the same disk on my blazer, then cut both notches with teh same disk too. either they are cheap or your putting waaaaaayy to much rpessure on them or something. but progress is progress man, keep it up

Re: Project 83
im letting the disk do all the work... i make light passes with it until the metal is cut through hahaa
and they are dewalt discs.... dont know if i got a few defective ones or what... how did you cut both bumpstops AND both notches with the same disc?! i used 1 disc for both my LCA's though... might be just too many weird andles on the bumpstops for me... |

Re: Project 83
well, im back from my trip
had alot of fun! hahaai took 322 pictures of everything there! went up to PEI and ate a pacific 1lb lobster! 1st lobster i ever ate. the lobster, plus an all you can eat buffet was 34 bucks! anyways, got home today, and before we left calgary, i went to UPS and grabbed my bags! so stoked! these things are HUGE! i honestly didnt expect any of this stuff to be this big... ![]() i might post some pictures from my trip, but they are all big, and i have to resize them, and there are LOTS! so i might just post a couple hahaa im wicked tired right now, so im probably gunna go to sleep, and hit 'er hard tomorrow! get some hardware and get the spring pockets cut out for the bags. do balljoint castle nuts come with new balljoints? or can i buy them separately? when i got my truck, it only had the castle nuts on the passenger side... driver's side was just snugged down pretty good... |

Re: Project 83
At least the one upside with this truck is since it isnt in a rush to be completed you can take your time and maybe have it bagged all the way around by the time you get an engine in it.

Re: Project 83
today, i got a whole bunch o shit done!
i swapped wheels between Blue Bitch and 83 (so B.B. has the z28 rims) i insured Blue Bitch! i ran all the crap and garbage from 83 (and random house stuff too) to the dump! 9/25 worth of scrap hahaa! there was so much shit in the back of B.B. that she was tucking tire haha! then i went to the car wash and washed her! she was pretty filthy... hmmm... well, i guess thats all i did today hahaa! but it took me all day to do... ![]() remember this picture? i fitted the bag cup, and it would not lay flat with it like that. i used my torch and a couple pry-bars, a hammer, and my vice grips to get that damn tab straight again. i might have to chop that tab off when i get the airlines ran cause i think its right in the way of the bag cup hole... on a shitty side-note, my tv is starting to die, so im gunna have to save up for a new one. prolly gunna go 37 or 42" plasma or LCD, so my truck progress is going to be slowed. i need to order the air tank and a couple compressors so i can start to play around with the bags i think im gunna have to trim my cups down so i can lay as much as i want to... cause i squished the bag as much as i could, and it was about 3" tall... im not gunna touch anything until i get the drop spindles and the bags working, that way i can see if i actually need to modify stuff...no pictures of anything done today, i killed my batteries on the vacation, and havent purchased new ones yet hahaa! i might see if i can get some life out of them tomorrow and take a few pictures of the stuff set up. |

Re: Project 83
hmmm... i guess i did take pictures... i forgot hahaa!
![]() ass end back on the ground. swapped wheels with blue bitch cause i like the stock look on a bagged truck. ![]() you can see my custom made u-bolts installed. rides a little low hahaa! ive got some stuff in the box and no shocks, so right now its resting the u-bolts on the frame. ![]() i like the looks of this. all really low to the ground. she's gunna get just a little bit lower than she is now! ![]() now i really, REALLY like the looks of this! in progress baby! ![]() about 2" all around from layin frame! |

Re: Project 83
was pricing out fittings today... holy shit they are expensive!
i talked to my uncle, and he and my bro can hook me up with all the fittings and valves i need. they work at a mech shop where they use air fittings for semi's and hydro/vacs and stuff like that. so their stuff is quality! hopefully gunna have that stuff pretty soon. im sure they can even hook me up with an air tank! if not, ive got mine picked out at SD. im not sure weather i should build my notch with rectangle tubing and fishplate the corners, or get the 8 piece notch... |

Re: Project 83
i can guarantee that i can build them cheaper than 100 bucks. the only thing is, it would be easier to install the 8 piece vs the rect. tubing... way easier, and i dont want to screw anything up... |
