Project 83

I just picked up a new old truck last night.

Specs:
1983 Chevy S10, RWD, Had the 2.8L V6 with a 5 Spd

No Engine or Transmission in it now.

Plans:
get the black rattle-canned paint off the driver's door
repair the floor (has brand new floor pans, ready to go in)
install tilt column
wire everything (truck's wiring harness was on the floor, looks like ass, so im probably going to try to find one at pick n pull)
update the interior to match Blue Bitch's (the 91-93 (i think) interior)
get the hack-job'd suspension drop fixed
get the body prepped for undercoating
tint the windows
install power everything (windows, locks, mirrors)
line locker for the front brakes
cruise control
air conditioning! (going to be my summer DD, so i NEED A/C!!!)
v8 (truck is set up for a v8) 327/350/383 stroker/400, havent decided, and its honestly not that night on my list right now
im fairly certain that i want an automatic, so i can go with a B&M Mega Shifter (have wanted one for a long time!)
upgraded disc brakes on the front
discs on the rear

i think that's about all i want from it for now... im sure the list will grow as i build the truck

so anyways, onto pictures

cab full of the shit that was in the back of the truck. had to throw it all in the cab so we could haul it without shit falling all over the road.

needs a tailgate, and a bit of box repair. not a priority right now though.

underside intact! very nice! only thing is, look at the blocks! those cant be actual drop blocks, can they? also, the u-bolts are crap, and need to be replaced. but i got coilovers!

another shot of the coilover, and the block, and the shitty u-bolts hahaa!

i FINALLY got my z28 rims! ive wanted these things forever! they need a good cleaning, but as far as i can tell, its just dirt (havent looked super close though)

firewall shot. needs a bit of work, hard to tell, but its got some denting on it around the passenger foot area.

that hole... is that for the clutch that was in it before? ifso, i wonder why they couldnt plug the hole hahaa! lazy...

mint frame up front. very nice

all the shit into the back of the truck finally. threw a tarp down, the stuff on top, then wrapped the tarp over top. i did this so that it looks cleaner than just a pile of shit in the back of the truck. i dont think the landlords would like that too much...

notice the black door. dude spray painted flat black over the orange... why? ill never know... how could i remove the black without killing the orange underneath? is there something that eats flat paint, but wont harm clearcoat?

un-tinted windows... looks so boring hahaa! clean cab.

better motor mounts inside on the floor. i will swap em later, not a priority right now. someone covered the dash in fabric... not my thing, bitch gotta go!

trying to get the old and busted seat belts out, i slipped, and punched a tab that holds the back panels on. that was fun. took a chunk out of my finger and got a bit swollen. nothin a beer couldnt fix though.

i cut the belts off, ill murder the bolts out later. was sick of bashing my hands on stuff. i put a bandaid on for the sole purpose of keeping shit out of the wound.

dash is history. look at the mess of wires on the floor hahaa! i took it out, and threw it in the back of the truck. i might try to sort it out, but probably will get everything i need out of a 92 or something with the newer style dash and interior. like my steering assistant :P

old and busted steering column is history. i have a tilt column in the box, ill install it later. i want to get the cab ripped off, and weld the new floor pans in, and get the firewall looking a bit better before i start putting interior back in.

here is that hole again. im certain thats for the clutch. im still perplexed as to why they didnt cover the hole... guess they didnt mind a bit of water comin in on a rainy day...

this pos didnt even have tilt... gross!

another shot of the firewall. def. gotta chop out the swollen metal from the clutch hole...

no idea why the guy welded the motor mounts to the frame...

doesnt really look like he got good penetration with this one into the frame...

pidgeon welds hahaa! how hard would it be to fix this?

wtf is this?! what could it be? fuel lines? your guess is as good as mine...

what is this wire for? i had to cut it to remove part of the harness that was mutilated... i honestly have no idea what this is...

another shot of this plug...

cut coils, drop coils? needs a good pressure wash hahaa!

the dude half cut out the floor hahaa, i gotta finish cutting it out, then weld in the floor pans, then weld the cab mounts onto the floor pans. the pass side frame mount it boned too, so im going to have to get a new one, or chop one off another truck or something...

here is the driver's side. kinda a mess, but its a project :P

glad i didnt have to cut this hole. would make a good setup for the B&M mega shifter

better side view (gf went to the store)

alright, thats it for my picture whoring hahaa

its for the "brakes" light on your dash. truck looks good. those are monroe "load levelers" probably, they make it ride stiff and high lol

roflmao, i honestly dont know. i noticed the chain and just shook my head hahaa!

the only thing i noticed about the cab that is going to be hard to fix is it doesnt have the bottom front of the cab where the fender at the bottom bolts to... i wouldnt have even known about that if i hadnt done the fenders on Blue Bitch... so now im thinkin it may be easier to get another cab, and chop the front bit off it and then weld it to my cab... i dont know... ill post pics in 5 mins so you all can see what im talkin about

Re: Project 83

pretty sure they make a patch panel for that area man. and most work on cabs can be done "custom" if you have the fab skils. floors are floors, dont have to be stock

Re: Project 83

bitch!

cut my hand on something in the truck... oh well... thats like... 3 injuries so far today hahaa! if not tears, ive def. got the blood and sweat!

this bolt was such a pain in the ass hahaa! i had to use my 15mm deep socket with a swivel on it to crack it loose, and then wrench it off hahaa!

oh yea, i had to remove those bolts so i could get the brake pedal support piece down and out of the way so i could remove the rest of the HVAC venting. (run-on sentence much?)

yea, this is the thing i was talking about. they feed the venting up in between that top piece, and you have to drop the bottom bracketing down to get it out.

Re: Project 83

paid 900 for it. guy wanted 1000 for it. i wanted z28 rims instead of the other rims... outlaw somethings... not my style...

he threw in a radiator with 2 puller e-fans (not sure they will work for my application...) and a few more things...

i got a whole whack of engine stuff (2 quadrajet carbs, headers, p/s pump, alt, 2 starters, bunch more.

im after my co-worker's 383 stroker though if not that, than a 327, or something...

anyways yea, i thought the guy ran the lines and welded that plate there... ive never seen that before on any of my s10's (have had 4 separate ones before! but this is the oldest one ive ever owned (83,84,85,92)

i think the first thing on my list of stuff to fix is going to be the ebrake. i live in a neighborhood where there are bratty girls that when they walk by vehicles, they flip open the gas cap, or do other stupid stuff like that. im SO worried that someone is going to walk by and kick the tire chock from under the tire, and get ran over, or that the truck is going to hit the neighbors fence or something.

Re: Project 83

not so much progress these past 2 days... got heat exhaustion and badly dehydrated at work on monday, and ended up in the hospital...

alberta heat is something else hahaa...

anyways, today, im just taking it easy, yesterday i went to work because it wasnt hot out at all... stormy and raining and stuff, but i overdid it, and now im paying for it today... and yea, we had to work on Canada Day.

so anyways, plans are still to have the cab off by friday night so i can fix it on saturday.

might go out today (if its not hot out) and take the brake booster off and remove everything from the cab.

Re: Project 83

well, went out to get some fresh air and ended up doing a little bit of work on the truck. i feel better than i did just sitting in the room...

this is the brake pedal assembly at the top. that little clip there has a couple functions... it is the piece that presses against the brake light switch, and it helps hold the brake booster thing on.

bye bye brake booster the lines were so easy to get off! i really like this truck so far hahaa

i just like how this looks. stock, for now... not sure when im going to work on it to prep it for bags...

friggin seat belt bolts! uhg, they are really stuck! whats a good way to get these out? im thinking i might weld a nut to the top of them, and then just wrench em out. stupid torx

Re: Project 83

Went outside for some more fresh air... and found myself working on my truck hahaa!

see anything missing? OH EM GEE!!! NO SWAYBAR!

nevermind, i found it... its here on the ground. anyone want it? im going the way of the bags, and wont need it.

removed the chain, and installed my better motor mounts. i just noticed this tonight, but the guy welded the motor mount to the frame upside-down... ROFLMFAO

much better looking than the old ones... looked like someone just threw them together in 5 minutes... new ones = beef!

bye bye e-brake. havent decided what i wanna do here... im thinking handbrake from a camaro, but then i wouldnt be able to use a bench seat... i really dont know... in either case, this one was broke.

brake like was bent when i got it. gotta try to straighten it out, or ill end up replacing it... maybe i could just uncoil a bit, and move the fitting down, and reflare the end?

see, upside-down hahaa! oh well...

these rims have almost NO clearance from the stock spindle hahaa! oh well, i loves em

i dont know why, but i just love looking at pictures like this...

core support ripped out. it was rotted to crap anyways. figured i might as well take it off right now. i cannot believe how freaking easy these bolts are coming out *knocks on wood*

took the bumper horns off, and found this... lots of it... friggin dirt and crap. ill need to borrow the pressure washer from work, and spray the piss out of the inside of the frame. the frame looks like it was powdercoated in the last 4 years! looks really good underneath the dirt and oil and grease!

yea, all this came out of just that one side... its about a cup full of moist crap.

oh noes! the 'c' word... how do i get at it in there to paint it (or cover it up so it doesnt rust anymore?)

all this came out the other side...

not quite as bad, but still... pressure washer time!

love these pictures!

other side, for once.

as she sits tonight. tomorrow, im gunna have the fenders and hood off, and the bolts for the cab out.

hahaa, i have no idea what the dude did.

i havent had an opportunity to work on the door yet. i need to find some kind of chemical that will affect flat paints, but wont harm clear coat. will rubbing alcohol or finger nail remover work? what about paint thinner? or something else? after i get the black paint off, i wanna go over the truck with a real good waxing!
