Saw this at McDonalds..
![]() More sanding.. ![]() ![]() Roof and more rust removed/covered in bed. Not priming the whole thing because I'm going with a bed liner eventually, the roll/spray in kind. ![]()

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
what bedliner are you gonna use? I had to stop by advance earlier and i was checking out this kit for 100 bucks that i may do. I'm using the tractor grade primer from ace first though cause it's got rust inhibitors in it,and my bed had quite a few rust spots.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
I haven't decided yet, I was just going to look at the price ranges, and get one from somewhere in the middle. Haha. Definitely a roll in one though, since from what I've heard the spray can ones don't have a lot of the rubbery chunks and it doesn't come out very thick. So I'll roll on a few coats, then maybe over the years if it's necessary just do some touch ups with the spray cans. I'll definitely post up a review of whatever I end up with though.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Steer clear of the walmart kind. It's a halfway decent brand, but it didnt last worth a shit on my bagged truck (bed) however it's doing decent on the frame. First time i loaded something in the bed,it scraped the liner right off. I've heard good things about herculiner.
Check out the stuff at advance. I thought about doing something cheap, then paying a friend to spray a shit-ton of clearcoat over the liner. I'll probably try the 100 kit though. It's a pretty legit brand. |

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Btw,the spray cans are also super expensive. You get WAY more bedliner for your money with the gallon cans. You're paying for the aerosol in those cans. Waste of money.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Yeah herculiner and rhinoliner really stand out, but the advance or autozone(closer to me haha) brands seem to be okay. There's like Duraliner and rustoleum brands there..

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
This was by far the worst area I've had to sand. All the body lines and rounded spots and stuff. Especially the thumb indention at the gas door.
![]() ![]() Someone Has repainted the bed in it's life. From right to left, their paint, their primer, factory brown, factory golden brown base coat, factory primer, factory...whatever the black layer is haha. So there's a two extra layers on the entire bed. Ugh. ![]() More on top of the cab done, along the drivers side door. ![]() More spots for water to leak in. Great. I don't even know what I should fill it with. ![]() ![]() My work shop. The great outdoors. ![]() Okay so this....... ![]() Was filled with this ![]() ![]() And it's jacked up like that for more frame priming and such. ![]() ![]() Getting dark. ![]() I even removed and washed the bump stop. Looks like a new part haha.

I wish I had a "workshop" like yours. I have a lot of sanding to do on my truck, but my apartment complex won't let me do it in the parking lot.

Man I just realized the body lines look like a wave in the last picture of the truck...they're really not that bad. It's only the door that hangs low. Just so everybody knows. Everything else is straight and lines up good.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Okay I finally got some color on the frame. Black of course haha. I don't have pictures at the moment, I did some of it the other day, then it rained, all terrains always throw mud everywhere it got dirty...so! once the paint I just sprayed on dries for a few hours I'll wash off the mud and take some pictures of what I've got so far.

Okay I lied. Didn't clean the mud. But I have a reason! I started painting elsewhere as well....so here's the rails
![]() ![]() ![]() Here's where I also started painting, and the reason I didn't move my truck and wash it...Passenger wheel well ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
![]() Guess all of this is the next project haha. ![]() I'm pleased with the results. A little over spray but it doesn't matter, that will all be painted with the body whenever that happens. ![]() Just for giggles, what it'd look like lifted more(notice the jack is still under there) ![]() Nice and black ![]() Also squeezed in a little more primer work right there at the end of the day ![]() ![]() I'd love to fix this thing up. It's just been sitting there for like 5 years. Used to be my dad's daily/work truck. Fuel pump went out on it...and there it sat.

I also just picked up a window crank remover tool at autozone so I can finally get around to fixing my passenger door handle. I probably could have just made one of these things but it was only 5 bucks so what the heck.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Yeah they're always coming up and stealing things from me, especially tools with squishy handles..pliers, screw drivers, one of the ratchets...haha
And actually, my dad is considering selling it. It's got sentimental value since it's pretty much what got us through a lot of hard times early on, cutting grass and hauling pallets and stuff, and he sold his first car for it(70 something firebird, 400 pontiac motor)...but he said it's a lot of work to fix it up nice, and it's just sitting there so he thinks he wants to sell it...still kind of on the fence though. |

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Okay so for the past three days or so, it's been raining almost nonstop...well I came back to school last night for this event thing, and there were like 6 cars in the wholeeee high school parking lot. Big ass parking lot. And it was wet. And some friends were there...so I drifted everywhere! Haha it was a blast. The back end of these trucks are so light they just whip right around like it's nothing. Some of my friends joined in and it was a lot of fun. I'm impressed by my truck, didn't know it had it in it to actually keep a legit drift going on, especially in these all terrain tires. haha. I wish now we had taken videos, even though it was dark out there.

I bought a seat cover today, but I'm not too happy about it. Universal my ass. But it's better than slowly tearing a deeper and deeper hole on the driver side so it'll do for now.

Re: Project: 4x4 Under Construction
Finally took my door panel off today to fix the passenger side outside handle. That was a huge pain in the ass. The connecting rod from the handle to whatever else is in there was bent all out of shape for some reason, it was bad. I didn't know it was out of shape until I took the driver side panel off to see what it's supposed to be like. So I straightened the rod out, got it all back into place and realized the plastic clip that holds it in at the top is broken...so until I get another one, and a whole bunch of the clips that hold the panels on, my doors will be naked. Haha, oh well, they needed to be cleaned out and painted/sound and heat insulated anyways.
