Yeah i like them too. Should look good when the wheels are painted up (not sure which color) and have the chrome caps and trim rings. Maybe wider white walls.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Cut the other fender, threw it on today just to step back and look at it all. plus it had to be done. lol.

I was thinking about the frame horns today. Since i moved my cab back 3/4 inch then i'll have to section out that much of the frame for the core support to line up.

I was wondering what degree of a cut it would take to make it where i wouldn't have to cut any excess frame off to compensate for the cab being moved back. I need to dig up geometry class and get me a triangle drawn out with one side 3 inches, the other side 0.75 inches and then find the other side. Lol.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Some late night calculation while on the iPhone shows the angle of the cut should be 75.94 (76) degrees. That's with moving the frame horns down 3 inches and 3/4 inch back.

Nope. People usually remove 3/4" of material and keep the cut vertical.

And Blake, you're spot on with the angle (although the way I did it was 14°, since I based it off a vertical line)

Not necessarily. It will eliminate 3/4" of room for the radiator and core support to sit on top of the frame horns.

Unless from the top of the horn up you make the cut vertical

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Thanks for the confirmation Brent. I'll probably cut the frame vertical on the top half of the frame rail after doing the 76 degree angle cut. Probably will make it look better and give it a little more room.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Small update.
I decided to get out the house today and work on the s10. Been kinda up and down lately and i decided i need to show the s10 some love. I decided to just cut the frame horns off straight and to take 3/4 inch off of them then weld them back (which i will do tomorrow). I tacked a bar from one horn to the other but then i knocked it off because i wanted to put the core support in place then bolt up the horns and weld it, and with the bar i think it would make it a pain.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Got my booster in the mail late today so i just went out and stuck it in to see how it would work out with the weird offset boss 304 lol. Seems to fit fine. Going to cut above the drivers wheel into the cowl and mount the clutch master there. I welded together a piece of pipe and the old clutch mounting square piece where it turns into place.

I've recessed my radiator as well and i'm having a little bit of trouble getting it to fit good and have clearance all the way around + i bought some small L brackets and straight mounting brackets. Anyone have some suggestions with that. I know how to mount it up but it seems to be hitting on the opposite side of where the fill cap is on the inside where the metal is crimped over the plastic tank. I've never seen anyone cut that area out to clear.

Edit, Just thought of this because i tried it the other day and was kinda disappointed but the LSOH kit will not clear my steelies. It would work if i trimmed the heim joint but yeah.. no thanks.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Gotcha. I have the Corvette radiator that JTR recommends (84-88 'vette I believe) and the tops of the tanks stuck through the top of my core support even though that radiator is even smaller in dimensions than the stock 4.3 rad

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Got a little bit of work today. Wasn't really happy with the welds but i'll clean them up. welding to unprepped painted metal will piss you off (burnt a hole above the master cyl mount, grr). lol, oh well.

Turned the piece around on the clutch pedal that attaches to the rod on the master cylinder to get a little bit of room. Also set up my brake booster, it's ready to go now. Gonna clean up the master cylinder mount in the firewall tomorrow then start filling in that drivers side hole with a tub!

If anyone is wanting some steelies with new (99% tread) white wall master craft tires + spider caps and trim rings, pm me. Or will trade.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Getting the drivers side tub finished up, also sealed up the cowl where it was cut for the clutch master yesterday with the help of Colby32. Just was one of those things i didn't look forward to dealing with, lol. Ran out of cut off wheels late in the day so i was working with small junk.

Here are some rough pics of whats going on. lot of metal work left on the drivers side + smoothing out welds. Gonna finish up the drivers side tomorrow.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

I'd maybe be a little bit worried about how close that clutch line is to the tire, one good bump could mean the end of it. I used a Wilwood clutch master with a first-gen S10 reservoir and it worked pretty well for me. You'd have to enlarge the bucket a bit though. Love the truck tho, especially digging the steelies w/ spider caps and pinner whites. Here's a pic of my clutch setup for reference, although the master is kinda hard to see with the factory wires and vac lines in the way:

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

We are going to try and heat the line up with a heat gun, and slightly tweak it so its more "straight" so it can run right along side the brake booster, and hold it to the firewall with some insulated rubber clamps.

If that doesn't work, an all stainless line from speedway, with the quick connect fitting down near the tranny, and a russell fitting up at the master itself will solve all clearance problems.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Drivers tub almost done now. And on the line i'm gonna try to make the stock line work. if not i'll just get a new stainless line. Wilwood wouldn't be a good option now since the firewall and cowl is cut for a stock setup. lol

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Now i'm customizing my clutch pedal to clear the tub and i noticed that the master cyl rod is being pushed in like normal with the pedal going in, but it's also getting some downward movement when being pushed in. i know the rod has a little bit of swivel motion to it naturally, just wondering if anyone has had trouble from this before? I saw a tiny bit of fluid on the floorboard but i think that's from where i almost snatched it off. lol.

Basically i'm wondering if this will affect the master cyl or is it ok for it.

I would talk to JJ about this. I thought he was making custom clutch pedal setups and selling them.

Re: Project: 2003 zq8 zebra.

Thanks Kansas Dime.

Didn't do anything at all today. Been having a weird neck/ear ache pain, especially when i breathe in through my nose or swallow. extremely annoying and pretty painful at times.

Went and picked up some new wheels for the s10. I think they're really good looking.

trolol... bought them for the tires. nitto 245/35/20
