Thanks guys! Tokodragon, I've got 3 more center caps that I pulled off an Astro cargo van, at home. Gonna clean them up and use them as wall art or something. I just love the look of them.

I'm excited about the frame, and being 'bagged at that. I was afraid that you'd do all of this work, then the rotted frame would be the wooden stake through the heart. I'm glad to see it has a solid and better future.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Hell, no! With all the work I put into this thing, getting the body straight and rust free, and rebuilding it after wrecking it, there's no way I'm letting a little (ok, a LOT) of frame rot keep me from reaching my goal of getting it on the ground! Even if I wasn't planning on bagging it, it'd still be easier to swap frames, than it would be to start over with another truck, and get it to the point I'm at now.

Today I finally cleaned and repacked my wheel bearings. I've put almost 50k miles on the truck, and I don't know when or if they were ever serviced prior.
Pulled everything apart, and there was virtually no grease left in the bearings. They looked good, though. No pitting or wear or roughness. Cleaned em up, repacked them, and put everything back together with new seals.
Initially, I thought I had plenty of pad left

A good 1/4" or so. Until I saw how close to the rivets I was

Like the bearings, these pads have around 50k on them, so I'm sure I could've got the summer out of them, but the bagged chassis I bought had close to new pads on it, and was sitting right there, so I grabbed the pads off it

A little surface rust from being exposed, but nothing bad. Cleaned and lubricated the slider pins and all contact points, and reassembled everything. Should be good for another 30-40k!

S-10's - because they're cheap and easy, and I'm poor and lazy.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

So, no real updates. Just been daily driving it since the gf has the Blazer. Once she gets a new car and I can take this thing off the road, I should start making some progress. Might start working on the new frame a little. A few things need to be cut off and rewelded, and the whole thing needs to be cleaned up and painted. I just don't really have the motivation right now. Interior of the truck is starting to go. Front edge of the dash is lifting, and the rear of the headliner is falling down. Little things that just make me a little sad. Enough rambling. Here's a pic

Kinda thinking about putting the GTAs back on for now. I like the steelies, but I like the stance with the wider tires. I dunno.

Not this one. I know a lot of people aren't big fans, but I love the contrast the rust gives to the truck. I do have another GMC hood hanging around that I'll probably paint to match someday so I have a couple options.

Drove it last Saturday for the first time in a few weeks. Didn't realize how harsh and slow it was compared to the Blazer, until I drove it again. Still more fun to drive though! Missed ripping through the gears.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Parked the Blazer and picked this thing up from my parents' Thursday night, to drive over the weekend. Stopped to put gas in it and when I started it back up, the check engine light turned itself out, which was nice.
Looks like I'm gonna be selling my new frame and all bagging parts in the spring. A friend of mine just got a job at a metal fab shop and can fix my frame for a good price. I've never been fully committed to the swap. I don't really have the resources or the ambition, honestly, and I know it would get half torn apart and just sit in my parents' yard for who knows how long.
Most of the money will go into upgrades to the Blazer. Refinishing the new wheels, new tires, maybe a small lift, etc.
Aside from some finish bodywork and paint, the s10 is pretty much done for me.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

It's been a couple months, and I've changed my mind yet again. Still gonna end up selling the new frame. Well, most of it. Now that I've got a welder and know that I'm pretty good with it, I'm sticking with fixing and bagging my own frame. I'm gonna pull the control arms, spindles and bag cups off the new frame. So, the only real work I'll have to do up front is cut the spring pockets. Not 100% sure what I'll run for bags. Initially, I was gonna run re8's up front. Requires a lot more cutting, but my pal Mr. Gimp assures me it's totally worth it for ride quality. Gonna be keeping the front swaybar too.

For the rear, I'm planning on a bag over axle 4-link. Nothing too crazy, just simple and functional. Getting everything from suicidedoors.

Been doing a bit of reading on four links, and it seems pretty straight forward, so I'm gonna order their universal link kit and build them myself.

Air management will be controlled by a Little Larry's Fourplay.

I like the simplicity of it, and the fact that it's variable speed. Only downside is running a lot more air line, and having to run lines into the cab. Still, for the price, it looks like my best option.

Not sure what size tank(s) I'm gonna go with yet. I don't plan on playing with it too much, so probably nothing too big. I've got the two 480's, which should be more than enough compressor, even if I do decide to get a little switch-happy.

The goal I've given myself is to get it completed for LowRollers in August. There's some other issues I still have to deal with before I even start tearing it apart, but I think I can do it.

He's doing well. I'm sure you've seen it posted, he's got an 03 fullsize he's been driving. Slammed right now. Might be helping him bag it this summer.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Those manual valves are pretty damned cool. But, why go the extra mile for ride quality in the front but do a bag-over-axle in the back? Just gonna set it up to not have much lift and run big bags?

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Well, talking with Scotty last night, he's already convinced me to run bag on bar instead. I originally wanted to go bag on axle because it seemed simplest to set up. No figuring out where to mount bags, plus I just like the look of it more. I'm not looking for a ton of lift, so that was never an issue. Adding a rear swaybar to my truck was the biggest improvement to handling, and I was hoping to keep it, even with bags. Bag over seemed like the best way to do that. Not to say I won't try to keep it still. But I know it's the worst as far as ride quality, so I might as well do it the best way first time around. Now, as long as I don't change my mind 5 more times before ordering parts, I should be ok.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

It would drive me nuts having my truck ride comfortably in the front but like a wagon in the rear unless I dropped the psi in the rear to soften it, which would then force me to ride Cali style (or "tilted") all the time. You strike me as the type that isn't after "just wanting to be bagged and to hell with all else", so you should aim for a more balanced ride quality setup. The only way I'd do BOA would be with relatively huge bags coupled with nice shocks. Actually, since mine is more performance-oriented, I was considering sleeve bags just behind the axle like where one would mount coilovers on a track/touring 4-link setup. Wouldn't be a ton of lift, and would also be similar to BOA, but would behave very much like progressive-rate coils if the sleeves were carefully matched and located. You could be happy with BOA, but it would take a lot more planning and willingness to stick to limited PSIs/height for a balanced feel/stance. With a BOB, you still have to design it properly (as with any suspension setup), but you'll have much more leeway in design.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Thanks for the input. I'm definitely not looking to 'just bag it', without concerning myself with ride quality. I want something that'll be soft enough that I'll be happy on long trips, that can still corner well and doesn't have a ton of body roll.

This is one of the reasons ive thought against bagging. Most guys just hack it together and call it done. So ive been conditioned to think all bagged trucks are like that, and prone to ride like nuts. Im super stoked that you may put an end to my condition. Ill be keeping up on this one

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

There's a ton of dedicated track cars that are bagged. Don't be mistaken. If set up properly that can be made to handle.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

I dunno. Wouldn't the ride/handling be pretty much the same as on axle? I really haven't done any research on it.

Re: MyTruckHasNoPantsOn!

Pulled the front suspension off the new frame today.

Belltech spindles

Lowers look like they were dehumped pretty well.

Gonna do a little grinding and smoothing, and a fresh coat of paint.

The left upper arm is brand new, but the right is pretty rusty and the bushings are pretty cracked. Gonna at least replace the bushings, or possibly replace the whole arm, depending how cheap I can find one.

Not sure if I'm gonna clean up and use these cups, or buy new. Any opinions on what front bags to run? These, or the re7s or 8s? I know the bigger the bag, the less pressure I have to run, and the softer the ride.

Gonna start ordering parts within the next few weeks.

Also went on a little shopping spree.

Chop saw, a third set of jack stands that I'm sure I'm gonna need, plus a bunch of welding supplies and some stepped drill bits.
