Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Drove down to Dauphin Island today with my girlfriend to enjoy a day of fun since we were both off and got a couple photos of my truck before we left. I actually got stuck in the f'n sand and a guy driving by in a jeep wrangler offered to pull me out but neither of us had straps so him and another guy pushed while i reversed out. It was a pain in the ass but the pics were worth it all

And my rear tire after getting back from the island. It looks like i had a white wall thanks to all the sand (Yea,i buried it pretty deep)

And a random photo while driving along the Dauphin Island bridge (Famous for not so good things but still...)

I'm waiting on my paycheck Thursday and some time off from work so i can drive out to the junkyard and i plan to finally get my passenger door. I need a center cap for my left, front wheel too because mine fell off or something because it's not there anymore. Mirrors would be nice too but only if i have enough $ this week after the door and center cap.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I thought about the original two-tone but i want to do something else. I'm having a hard time deciding though. I would love flat black but at the same time i wouldn't. I will decide the color when i get to that part. I still have body work to do then suspension work before it's painted.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got my new door. It came off the same truck as the bed so it was mint except it didn't have interior, mirror,or outside handle. I've got all that on my old door though and i'm swapping those parts onto the new door. I've got it outside on sawhorses right now and my friend and i are getting the glue off from the trim then sanding down the paint on it so we can tape and primer and if we're lucky get it on for work tommorow. I'll take pics soon.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

The stripper disk thing we used with my drill to rough it up for primer. Sure beats hand sanding.

My friend Jessie helping sand

It's a bitch to sand and it's going to be a bitch to prime and put together but it will be worth it. The glass is a little darker but i can fix that later. We stopped because the drill batteries both died and we ran out. Also it's pretty late and we were both tired. We will be sanding the rest tommorow when both batteries are charged fully and hopefully have the door on by Sunday. I forgot to buy the door pins but i will pick some up tommorow or Saturday.

Thanks

I almost replaced it with another one the other day but i can't part with this one. It came on the truck and i loved it so i kept it on. Even when it's bagged and all i'll still probably leave it on.

We weren't having problems with it clogging. It sands good it's just the drill batteries die out fast and we have to constantly change them out. They'll be both fully charged for tommorow so we won't have that problem.

Picked up door pins and bushings after work today and got a new power steering cap since the old one looked like crap. When i changed it i checked the fluid and i need to add a little but i'll do that tommorow or Sunday. The door should be primed and hopefully sanded smooth by tonight.

Yeah,i know. It doesn't look great but it's "cheap" primer until i get it re-done and painted. I had to drill 3 holes in the door to mount a little trim strip inside but other than that it went together easy. I left the mirror on my other door because i didn't swap doors yet because it's too late and if we run into problems then i won't be able to drive to work tommorow y'know?

But it will be on by this weekend or sooner. And i so did most of the work. I just happened to be the only one taking the photos so i'm not in any

We finally got the old door off but i didn't have a chance to put the new one on yet. It's under my carport for now with some beach towels covering the opening. I'm planning to put the door on tommorow after work.

I still have to put the door handle on and replace the door locks but here it is. It's not the best primer job but it looks decent in person and it get's the job done until i have it painted soon (Few more body parts to get)

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Soon man....soon. I have a date scheduled with the windshield shop on June 10 and i'm paying $210 to have a whole new 1 piece rear window installed with new trim and everything. After that i should have the money for those 2" spindles you showed me and i can buy the 3" blocks. Also around that time Scrapin the coast will be coming soon and i should have my income tax by then so i'll be buying my bumper, rollpan, and cowl hood also.

I wanted to bag the front but i'll settle for 2" spindles and 3" blocks for now. I'll bag the front though shortly after scrapin the coast then bag the rear later. It's coming together piece by piece though.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Thanks for all the + comments. It's starting to look a lot better but sadly mechanical stuff keeps pissing me off lately. the day after putting the new door on i was driving and next thing i know the truck starts sputtering like it's running out of gas even though i had a full tank and sea-foam plus i've replaced the fuel pump already. It idles fine and drive fine at 40mph but accelerating it wants to be a bitch and vibrate the whole rear of the truck and sputter so i'm replacing the fuel filter in a few minutes and give that a try. Thanks to this i may not have my new back windshield next week afterall

Once it's running though i'm considering bagging the front for now. I've just got to figure out what setup i want as far as compressor and tank..

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

if you bag the back youll want the rear to be as low static as you can get it or it may look wierd.

I have your exact rims on my dime. I was going to get new ones, but I think I'll just paint them black. They are outlined in black with the inside being silver.

Really? Because i don't care. It's something i did temporary until i have it painted. I do NOT do sanding and i DON'T paint. I know that and i admit that i don't do either. I don't claim it to be a nice job and i have plainly stated that in a couple of my replies. Once i get a few remaining body parts it will all be sanded back down and painted by a professional paint guy so it didn't really matter to me how i did it now because that's not how it's going to look.

If you don't like how i do things and can only talk shit then don't bother replying to any threads i make because you're only wasting people's time by making them read your posts.

I thought about that but as long as the front will go back to stock when aired up then it won't be a problem. I was going to lower the rear with 3" blocks though if i bagged the front. That way i could air out the front a little and basically ride 2/3 or so but with the exception of actually being able to raise the front back up if needed.

Hopefully that made sense?

Btw....this is the shit that came out of my old fuel filter. Only difference is that it looked more disgusting in person. I filtered it through a rag and the rag looked as if it had mud caked on it......

Truck still sputters some though but it doesn't seem as bad as before. I'm going to try sme other things tommorow or whenever and see if i can't solve this damn problem..

Truck seems to run ok now. I cleaned the egr valve and the intake manifold where the valve bolted to. It can run better but it's good for now i think.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Truck started running fine then decided to still clean the egr and it started sputtering a little after but it's all good now. Here's some minor updates. Still waiting on my slow ass income tax refund...

Flat blacked the air cleaner until i get a new one

Instead of replacing the upper control arm bushings i'm just going to get a somewhat low mileage control arm at the junkyard and swap arms. Then i can replace the old brake rotor with my new one and i should have all my knocking and shaking up front fixed and it'll be safe to bag the front.

Been working a little on the blazer but not much. Got the coil springs removed and basically laid out the front without the bags except the stock control arms keep it off the ground. If i had a grinder still i'd grind down the lower arms to make it lay. I've still got to get someone to weld in my notch on it so i can paint the frame already and put some bags on it.

But enough about the blazer,i'll put some photos on it's thread. Back to my truck... I had to re-schedule my rear window appointment until the 17'th of this month but i'm still getting it done in time for scrapin the coast. Hopefully that won't be the only thing done by then

Edit: Ignore the zip ties holding my battery. The ghetto battery tray the previous owner put in broke and i didn't have time to fix my battery tray until last night so i zip tied it until then. It's got a new battery tray in it from my blazer so the zip ties in that photo are gone.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Thanks. I've got more body parts in the works soon. I was hoping to have the front bagged before scrapin the coast but it's not going to happen. There's no way i can get the money for the bags and stuff in time to have it by the 19'th. I'll just pull a leaf spring i guess and at least my truck will be level.

I wish. I think i'm going to order a front bumper and rollpan with my $300 stimulus check this week and when my federal income tax comes in i'll use it to order that front bag setup you told me about. I'm not sure how i'll get a tank and compressor. I guess i'll buy the compressor out of one weeks paycheck then i can pay for a tank using the $ from one lawncare job.

At least i will have that 1 piece rear window when i go to scrapin. Then i won't have to hear the tape on my back window crackling when i'm going down the road

The headliner is out btw. I took it out last night and when taking it out i ****ed up and broke off a piece of the foam so i'm going to barry's u pull it Sunday and trying to pull a piece out of a truck there and put my headliner fabric on it. It's not bad really just needed cleaning. I tossed it in the washing machine last night and it looks good now. I just need another piece of foam so i can put the fabric on it then install the foam in my truck.

I can finally use my sun visors now and not have to squint while driving home from work because they used to hold up my headliner fabric..

Nah i will always hate sanding i think. As far as my paint job....I'm taking it to someone who is a top notch painter/sander and letting them fix any dents and letting them paint/sand the whole truck.

The problem is that i can't decide what color i want to paint it. I decided on my blazer but i can't decide on my truck

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Still waiting on federal income tax but my $300 stimulus check came in today. I've just got to cash it and load some onto a pre-paid visa then i'm ordering my chrome front bumper online and some clear corner lenses for my grill and clear running lights. I'll also be stopping by the junkyard for a new valance and a new foam piece for my headliner.

I may also order my rollpan if i have enough money left otherwise i'll wait until my federal income tax comes in.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Cashed my stimulus check and got it on a visa debit card earlier so.....

My front bumper is ordered and should be shipped monday,i just paid for my clear turn signals for my grill on Ebay,I also ordered my clear bumper lights. I've got to check to see how much is left on my debit card and i may buy a black bowtie logo for the grill. I'm making sure to save money for a valance at the junkyard though and hopefully a headliner too.

I kinda doubt it but i might have the new parts installed in time for scrapin the coast. Wish me luck

Anybody know where i can buy a black bowtie emblem for my grill? Mine is like 6 1/2" but i can only find ones smaller or larger on ebay. Any websites that sell them?

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Rollpan is like $60 and it won't tell me shipping yet but i went ahead and ordered a rollpan and it should ship out Monday.

I'm also getting my rear window replaced this Tuesday with a non-tinted 1 piece window and new trim so that plus the rollpan....the rear of my truck will look badass. I'm also getting new tag mounting bolts to use when i get the rollpan on. I'll post pics as i get the parts in the mail and install them.

Edit: Tommorow me and my friend Jessie (Who helped me in some of the photos) are taking a trip to the u-pull it and getting a almost mint valance for the front of my truck but it won't be installed until the new bumper comes in.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Put the egr valve and solenoid on my '91 that came off my blazer and it works a little better. It wants to stutter after driving for a while though. I checked my oil and it was a little lower than normal so i added some and it seemed to help some. I'm wondering if it's the 10-w-40 i used. When i ran 10-w-30 it was fine then the only change i can think of that i did before it started acting up was switching to 10-w-40. I might take it to the shop and bring my oil and have them change it because i can't get the filter off that i put on last time. I'm going back to 10-w-30 this time though.

Thanks. Hopefully soon i'll have actual photos of the new parts on my truck instead of just internet photos of the parts

I thought about painting mine but i hate painting plastic and i'm not sure how well it would turn out so i'd kinda prefer to buy one that's already black. I might try to paint mine in a couple days before biloxi but i don't want it to look like a spraypaint job and i really don't know how to prep plastic well.

I'll read up on it though and i'll post pics if i paint it.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got my rear window put in today. $234.30 cash and about 35 minutes of my time. The guy who put it in was fast plus i got there early. I wish i had my camera because my truck was parked next to a fine ass convertable corvette in the shop. Talk about comparison

My clear corners and clear running lights are on there way to my house and i'm fixing to check my email again to see if my rollpan from fbi and my front bumper from jbm shipped today. They won't be here in time for scrapin' (****...) but they will be here next week probably.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I hate messing with automotive glass and glass in general so i paid a professional to do it. Plus i don't want junkyard glass so i paid for a brand new un-tinted piece. It was worth it to me even though i could have done it but it would have been a lot of cussing and getting pissed.

I'm installed my bumper, rollpan, corner lenses, and bumper lenses myself though. I only pay for labor that i can't do or just don't want to do (Like stuff that is a bitch to work with)

My bumper and corner lenses are scheduled to be here Friday and i might have my corner lenses in and hooked up for scrapin' but the bumper lights will go in when the new bumper arrives. Hopefully somehow the bumper will show up early but that's not going to happen...

Edit: Anybody know about how much it runs to have a bench seat stripped, and have new padding and black leather put on?
