Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
****,****,****! I drove today to an ex-girlfriend's house (She's friends with my current girlfriend) and it drove fine there after i put $30 in gas but when we got in to leave it wouldn't crank up. I thought at first the battery was dead but nope. It didn't want to stall out when cranking. It spun fine but just didn't crank. I think my fuel pump is ****ed. I ran out of gas twice since i got the truck because of the faulty fuel sending unit not showing the proper gas level and i think that killed my fuel pump slowly. When i turn the key half-way on i don't hear the fuel pump priming the motor like it normally does. I didn't think to check to see if it was spraying out fuel when i turned the key but it was dark and we had to use cell phones to see under the hood.
I'm going back tommorow and try to replace the fuel pump using the one off my blazer but if not i'm having my uncle drive out in his dodge ram 1500 megacab 4x4 truck with his 14 foot trailer attached and get my truck trailered back to my house. I absolutely hate going to sleep with it sitting that far from my house like that.... |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
And for the record it is indeed the fuel pump that's the problem. I went back to her house today to check on my truck (Sad,i know. I actually worry about my truck like it's a person ) and her older brother put some gas into the throttle body and it started up and ran for a couple seconds. So tommorow since my uncle wouldn't trailer my truck home i will be bringing my tools and the new fuel pump to her house and replacing the fuel pump and driving my truck back home. I wish i was off work tommorow though. I won't get to her house until like 6:00 and it get's dark around 7:30 so i'll have to hurry up and get it installed. Luckily her older brother has his own shop and used to have a bagged 2nd gen s10 and now has a bagged f150 so if i get stumped i have someone to ask for help there. But yea it should be driven home tommorow. Right now i'm waiting on a fiberglass rollpan for the rear to replace the bent rear bumper. Next up i hope to get the new bed and tailgate on. Also it'll be getting washed and cleaned inside thoroughly when i get it home because i've been driving down dirt roads and offroad a little (Work) |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Good news. I replaced the fuel pump with a new one from the parts store today and it cranked up just fine. When i first drove it the truck started acting funny so i shut it off in my ex-girlfriend's neighborhood and got out to check and it was fine so i cranked it up and drove away and it worked fine. I'm still trying to take it easy on the pump until it gets worn in a little but it accelerated fine and it did a stedy 45-50mph pretty easy. I even hit 60mph for a moment because i was going down a big hill and it did fine.
I'm still going to drive near my house for a bit to make sure nothing goes wrong but it should be fine now. Just want to make sure before driving far and breaking down. But rollpan should still be on it's way and i'm almost done with roughing up the new bed for priming so it should hopefully be going on soon. Now i need to get a new 1 piece rear window put in... Hopefully i will have the truck looking much better by July and be towing my blazer behind it on a trailer to the show in Biloxi (Not to compete but simply to bring it along and show off my progress) Last edited by Kiko : 04-04-2008 at 03:26 AM. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Ok,it poured rain here last night and today and the guy before had messed up the lockring on the gas tank so i couldn't get it on all the way and locked but it was on good enough for the time being. Well i covered the hole he had cut in the bed above the tank which had been letting water drip down onto the lockring and get in the tank before. At least that's what i thought. Apparently it must have gotten in there somehow because i cranked it up today to meet my girlfriend at the mall for lunch and then go to finish putting up fence posts and when i cranked it the truck died 2-3 times before staying cranked. Even then it wouldn't stay cranked unless i patted the gas a little then it stopped and idled alright. Tried driving down the street and it started dieing while driiving in third and it tried dieing after i went to first gear to pull it back into the yard. So i'm apparently going to have to drain 10 ****ing gallons of gas that i paid for and never got to use because the fuel pump went out after getting gas. I'm just going to drain it and put in 1-2 gallons so i can drive down the street before putting any more in.
On a plus side i sanded and started priming part of my new bed. I ran out of primer plus while priming i discovered there was a little glue left on the bottom of the bed form the trim so i had to stop until i can scrape the glue off then i can continue priming the rest of the side. ![]() ![]() |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Thanks. It turned out to be the fuel pump itself and i already replaced it a couple days ago. I'll remember the relay if it ever happens again. I had to end up vacuuming out my gas tank because i got like ****ing 4 gallons of water in it and the truck wouldn't run worth shit. It runs fine now with 2 fresh gallons in it for the time being.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
No pics as it's dark and i really don't feel like going outside and taking picture but i did a little more priming on the bed. I've got to prime the tailgate and right side now. The left side is almost done except the bottom rear corner where the glue that needs scraping off is. Tommorow i will be scraping it off and then the left side of the bed should be finished. Then i'll probably prime the tailgate tommorow which only leaves the right side and then the front of the bed where it faces the cab.
Once that's done i'm removing the tailgate to prime in the space between the tailgate and the bed. After that it will be on to sanding and then swapping it out with my current truck bed. If i have enough money i may go ahead and buy some 3M bed-liner and spray the top edges of the bed and tailgate with that because the spray on liner is chipped up that's on it now. Pics soon i hope ![]() |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Primered the bed some more. Thankfully i have my trusty work light otherwise i would never see after dark to primer the bed even with my carport light. Once again no pics because it's dark but i plan to finish sanding and priming tommorow night. I hope to have the new bed on by Sunday. So far the left side is finished and the tailgate is finished. The right side is partially finished. I still need to sand the front of the bed and primer it then take off the tailgate and primer in the little areas.
I also degreased my motor a little and got some more grease and oil off the valve covers. It's got gunk left but i need a small brush to scrub. Right now i just sprayed it and left it sit then sprayed it off with water as directed (Used a spray bottle instead of a hose though so it wouldn't get soaked) and cranked the truck to warm the motor. Its pretty clean now but not quite finished. I'm getting a nice amount of money this week due to my paycheck and a lot of sidejobs i've been doing for extra cash so i'm replacing the front shock on the driverside so that i will have both front shocks replaced and i might go ahead and put in both rear shocks because my rear shocks are worn out and just plain suck. After that i'll replace the bushings on the sway bar and all the other bushing replaced on the front then i will drive it like that for a couple weeks and then drop it 2/3" and switch to toxic drop shocks. I'm probably going to swap out the shifter knobs and make the one i want too. I won't tell what it is but it has been done before and it's old school. I may just buy one since they're already made like the one i want but i just thought drilling and tapping my own would be cooler since it would be authentic. I will have pics later. Probably not real soon because i work all day tommorow until about 5pm then i have a lawn to do until dark. Plus i still will have to cash my check and order that front shock. But pics WILL come this weekend. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Nah it's not the beer tap shifter. But it's still old school. I'll post pics once i do it but until then it's a surprise. And i'm about to leave out to do a lawn job then stop by the parts store and pick up my left/front shock and buy one or two dress-up parts for my motor then degrease the motor and put them on.
I'll be finishing the priming of the bed also. Just got to stop by and get more primer and some fine grit sandpaper. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
I'm still tuning it up right now and cleaning up some but i hope to drop it soon. No bags just yet. Im going to wait until all the bushings on my front end is replaced and my front end is nice and solid then i'm going with 2" drop spindles, replacing the rusty stock springs, and putting in 3" blocks in the rear. All for a total of 2" drop in front and 3" drop in the rear. The bed is almost done and ready to be put on. I'm still waiting on the rollpan to get here if it ever does ![]() I hope to get my new passenger door soon,my exhaust back on,and the dents repaired. Hopefully a 2" cowl hood shortly. Here are the pics i have been promising... New shock next to the old one. Once again i had to cut the old shock in order to get the bastard off....The rebound rate on the old one was horrible. I've seen bicycle shocks that rebound better than that ![]() ![]() Pre-install ![]() Installed ![]() My engine bay still needs more cleaning but it's improved since i first bought it. Some of that crap won't come off. ![]() I degreased my motor but i still need to re-spray my valve covers and scrub them with a brush. They're still pretty clean for 17 years old though. They are getting replaced with chrome covers later so it really doesn't matter i guess. ![]() Here's shots of the new bed and tailgate. It's not finished but close. I need to finish the primer in certain parts and spray the top edges with bed-liner then sand the primer smooth and it can go on the truck... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not bad progress considering i worked 8 hours today, came home and did a lawn job, then ran errands (Pick up shock, get gas in truck, and stop by walmart) and still managed to work on my bed and get the new shock put in ![]() |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Primer is done except for one small spot about the side of a penny that i missed. The sanding has been done on the left side of the bed and the tailgate. Now i just need to sand the right side and the front. Hopefully it should be on soon. I realize the primer job isn't pro but it's temporary so i can put the bed on then later i will have it stripped and professionally sprayed and painted. It turned out nicely though..

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Nothing was done today really. I had to work today so all i did was put the black plastic piece on behind the gas door. I also wired in a new socket for my left tail-light and got it working but now it's gone out again and won't come on unless i push the brakes (Gay) so i'm apparently going to have to fix that again when i put the new bed on.
Also i have another mechanical problem however this one is simple. The safety switch on the clutch is ****ing up and the truck doesn't want to crank sometimes because the switch randomly goes out for 1-2 minutes then works so if i shut if off the truck won't crank sometimes unless i wait and keep trying. I'll have that replaced come pay day. Right now i'm focused on getting the new bed on then i'm putting on a new chrome front bumper (No trim) and a fiberglass rollpan. Next week i may see about getting my rear window replaced with a one piece. I just have to call and get a quote. The new bed will be on soon as i can get my friend over to help. Problem is i lost his new phone number so i'll have to drive the 9 miles to his house and hope he's home. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Thanks
![]() I should have the bed on no later than thursday. I'm off that day and my friend gets off around 1pm so i can go pick him up and drive back to my house and put the new bed on. I could do it alone but problem is i can't lift the bed by myself plus it's faster with 2 people bolting down the bed at the same time. I'm waiting until payday then replacing my clutch trip switch and hopefully ordering a new front bumper and maybe a rollpan. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Front bumper? I'm looking for a stock bumper but without trim and without the holes for mounting the trim. Jbm carries one for $80 that i'm looking at come payday.
And no work yet to my truck. Just drove it earlier and it wouldn't start back up a couple times due to that safety switch for the clutch. When my dad picked me up from work we stopped by and bought one so all i have to do is put it in which is what i'm about to do. I doubt i will work on the truck much tommorow except maybe wash it,wipe down the inside, and vaccum itand maybe degrease the motor some more. Most of the work will be Thursday when i'm off work and have plenty of time to mess with my truck. I expect to have the bed on and ready to drive by 5-6pm Thursday. Once it's swapped out pics will be added. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Replaced the safety switch for the clutch and also did a quick temporary fix to help get rid of the slack in my clutch pedal.
![]() ![]() The second image is complete crap but what i did was take a strip of electrical tape and cut it down the center to make it narrow then wrapped it around the rod on the clutch pedal to help take out some of the slack due to me not having that bushing. I'm buying a bushing from the Chevrolet dealer but until it arrives that will help some. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Since today was payday i bought the new blower motor for my heater & a/c aswell as the freon and a retrofit kit to refill my a/c. I have to put that all in tommorow. On the way i picked up my friend around 3:15 and we came back to my house and started work on my truck. We removed the old bed with little trouble then got ready to put the new bed on. We had some difficulty getting it lined up at first. My friend or girlfriend one said that the bed was too long or something and freaked me out but we realized a few minutes later that everything was ok but just needed lining up. We managed to get the bed on good and then we had difficulty wiring the tail-lights and getting them to work proper. They work though but just shitty. I'll fix those later.
If the hood is still available i am planning to get the steel cowl hood for it and prime it soon. But next is the rollpan and a front bumper. Anyway here's pics.. By the way,i'm the one in the swimming trunks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My friend noticed a leak from the differential cover so i'm going to get a new cover, bolts, and gasket soon. Problem is i don't know what gear fluid to use. Anybody know what kind it takes? |

Ok,this is wierd. I opened the door and put the truck in neutral and it cranked right up without me touching the wires. I even turned it off and tried again and it cranked up then too. I'm starting to wonder if my truck just hates me or wtf is going on. Anyway here's a video me & my girlfriend got of Nick dragging in his sonoma last night. Ignore the huge mirror, she's new at filming

I'm going to order a grant kustoms rollpan Thursday when i get paid btw. I looked them up and found one i like. I might order the front bumper and the corner lights at the same time. |

Yeah. I don't really like the look of the one with a tag mounting place. I'm just going to drill two holes in the pan and use some nuts and bolts to attach my tag to it.

Nah i like the idea of bolting it to the rollpan. I've sen it done before and i like how it looks. Since the rollpan will be almost $95 i'm just going to get the rollpan this week probably. The bumper and clear corners will come next week (Unless i get side jobs this week)
Once i get the rollpan my rear will be close to being done. Then i just need the clear corners and the front bumper to fix up the front. |

Washed the truck when i got home from work. I wiped down the interior real good, vaccumed the interior,de-greased the motor like crazy, and washed down the whole truck. My gas guage doesn't work but i'm assuming it's 1/2 tank now based on the mark where it ran out of gas before. If so i'm averaging about 23.08mpg =)
I would get pics of the valve covers and block since they're really clean now but i don't feel like walking outside. Plus there is still grease and oil on the block but it'll come off after a few more scrubbings. It takes off a little each time i clean but it won't all come off at once. It's too thick.... |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Went to work on the differential only to find out that i could get every bolt out except for one. Some idiot before me rounded it off and i tried everything but coulding manage to get it off so i just added 2 bottles of gear oil for now. I will hopefully be able to get the cover off soon then i can put on the new gasket and re-fill it again but with all fresh oil this time. I wasn't able to drain out the old gunk thanks to that bolt.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Got back from some errands and got some photos of the truck in the sun.
![]() ![]() My truck is overheating when i run the a/c too i think. I dorve home with it off and the truck did fine. But on the way to pay my insurance i used the a/c and the truck would not crank for a bit then it started right up when i got back to it (I had my bike in the back and rode down to the bike shop about 5 minutes away) I'm still ordering my rollpan this Thursday but i'm also going to try and buy new hoses for my radiator and fix my temperature guage. If i have to i will buy a brand new radiator before scrapin the coast. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
Nah i got the others out fine just hard to turn. The other one is rounded off and i can't get a socket on it to turn it and the vice grips won't stay on no matter how tight i have them. How can i get those out? I tried everything i knew and nothing worked. I doubt one of those gator grip sockets would work because the head is almost 100% rounded off.
I tightened my bed bolt too. The one on the right closest to the cab was loose and my friend couldn't get it tight and if you lifted on that one particaular spot then it would move up and down a little so i took out the bolt and put it back in then with a pipe on the wrench cranked it down snug. Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
yeah a bolt or two on my bed were the same way. i put washers on them.
why dont you try using your chissels(sp) to square off the sides of the bolt? |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
I managed to get my bolt tightened down without extra washers. I just put a 2-3 foot pipe over the wrench and cranked it down that way. Works like a charm. I didn't think about the chisels. Would that really work?

What size is the bolt? 13mm? I can let you borrow a socket that'll get it out...an easy out or whatever. Life saver.
Truck looks good in the light on the driver side. We'll just ignore the other side for now...lol. Bed looks good. |

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]
I need a door but the door hinge pins are a ****ing bitch to get out and put in so i'm putting it off because i hate doing it. I'm buying radiator hoses tonight. I'm just waiting for traffic to go down because my whole way home it was horrible. Plus my truck can cool down some. I'm on about 240 miles right now with 1 tank of gas and i still hear a little in the tank so i might can go 270 miles or maybe 300 max. I'm just pushing it to see how much i can get from one full tank. I should get a minimum of about 20.7mg and a max of about 23.8mpg. That's with a 13 gallon tank,NOT the 20 gallon New rollpan will be ordered tonight. I'm considering getting one form suicide doors instead of grand customs and saving about $20 but i really like the grant kustoms one so i'm not sure. And yeah,it's a 13mm bolt. What do you have that will get it off? |
