Because it's my truck and i like tilt beds. I wanted something that nobody in mobile drives around with and a tilt bed just happened to be that. I'm considering making my own notch cover or buying one form suicide doors. Either way i'll weld it in and make the top part of the cover hinged.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I'm fixing to load up the truck and do some lawncare real quick but next stop is the tag office. One of my tag bolts came out and either someone took the othe rone off and got my tag while i was at work or it fell off on the road. When i got home it wasn't there and i drove back with Jessie and looked for it and couldn't find it. So......i've got to pay for another f'n tag. This time nylon lock nuts are going on the backside and the front part will be put on with the highest strength thread locker that i can find.

If i don't forget again today i'm going to weld up that exhaust leak and when i get the $$ for the metal i'm going to weld a frame in the bed to keep it square for now. I can always cut the welds and remove it later and add a notch cover

Just filled a report out for me. He was cool and all. I talked to him about his car for a couple minutes cause he has a new cop car that they are trying out. I had to file a report since it's custom lettered before i can get a replacement.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

They are seeing how front wheel drive does. I'm making a spacer deal to lift my transmission so it won't hang below the frame anymore. I cut some of that steel plate and made 2 pieces i can stick under the transmission inbetween the mount to move it up. i went ahead and welded the pieces together for practice and to make them both one big piece. i have to find out how big to drill the hole for the tranmission bolt and i'll drill it out and put that in later.

I might have a little bit of steel i can weld to the bed and if so i'll do that. I need to pull the bed in a little bit to clean the welds and brush on some primer and bedliner. I'd do it with the bed on but i don't want to bedline the bolts since they're stainless steel. I'd like to have the stainless steel ontop of the black bedliner because that would look much nicer to me.

But yeah....i'm just stopping for lunch then i got some cutting/bolting/welding to do. I might bring the welder to work and weld on my lunch break if i have to.

Yeah it's like $2 for a replacement but it will be a regular tag. In September when my tag renews i can get my tag back. I kinda want to change it to HACKDUP but i want to keep FRKNLOW on this truck and save the other tag for my blazer. It's tough finding a body for it but that's all i need and i can get to work on it and have it laying out.

So far today:

*Primed/bedlined the brackets for the tilt bed after grinding the welds and going back over them to fill them in and grinding them again..
*Grinded the lip off the bottom of the cab over the driveshaft so it won't rub anymore. I don't think i will need a driveshaft tunnel to lay on my choice of wheels but i have one incase
*Fixed my exhaust leak. It's hacked but i took off the muffler and welded something over the gap so it still has a couple tiny gaps but shouldn't be big enough to make any difference..
*Sprayed my new passenger door some and plan to finish tommorow and put it on.
*Shaved my antenna

I think that's about it. I still need air for my tilt bed. It sucked getting gas today. My mom was following me to the tag office so i held the bed up while she put the gas in for me. I've only done it by myself once and it's literally a pain. I have to put my knee on the tire and hold the bed up that way so i can use my hands to fill it. I am waiting on my bedliner to dry now so i can put the bed on and bolt it down and drive to work in the morning. The bedliner takes forever to dry unless it's like 100 degrees outside..

How i ran the wires to keep them from moving when the bed tilts

Kinda drug my tank a couple times...can you tell? I'm moving it forward this week or next. I just have to be carefull and it won't drag

It's not perfect but **** it. It is kinda hard grinding with the driveshaft and everything in my way.

Yes there is metal under the filler. I've since sanded and added more filler and sanded again. Need to feather the edges and get it with some fine grit paper and spray it.

I'm getting a little better...

Look,it's me...

Primed

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Bought some steel for the bed. It's 1/2" round steel tubing. I bought two 4 foot pieces which should be enough. I also bought a spring that i can attach t the bed and frame to let the bed tilt but when the air is out it will hopefully hold the bed down so it won't bounce all over the place like it does now. I'll take pics tommorow morning when it's light outside since my camera flash went out. The jpeg shows how i plan to do the tubing. It should be enough to keep the bed square and stop it from flexing. I just hate welding thin metal like the inside of the bed.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Just a little. Nothing really to do and i'm kinda tired of working on it right now.

Need to add more but trying to make the bed as rigid as possible

No more bouncing bed

Finally put on the passenger door. The paint came out lighter though

Needs more sanding and stuff but i went ahead and sprayed it for now. Not bad for first time ever shaving any parts

That's about it really. I need more $$ then i'll get more metal and start some more stuff.

nice work man. that weld does look a lot better, from the looks of the weld, it looks more like welding machine itself just doesnt get hot enough or something. i bet if you had a top notch welder, you could make a whole lot better welds, but if only everyone had 2 grand to dump on the welder itself. yours looks like a good first one and gets the job done, and your body work looks top notch too!

It'll get hot but you have to go slow so it stays in one spot long enough to get it hot. I want a bigger welder later. I'd like a nice 220 volt lincoln from lowes but the ones i find are like $600 and i can't really afford that hince the reason i got a starter one for $109. My body work is improving but i'm still bad at it. Thanks for the comments though. I'll post pics when i get more done. Probably Thursday or Friday after i get paid and pick up materials.

hey dude.. nice work with the truck. i like the fact that u are taking pride and doing it all your self.theres nothing better than a diy'er (do it yourself'er) the issue your having with the welder having to leave it in one spot to heat it up it the fact that your doing it gasless. i but a cheapo lincoln welder from home depot 110v 175amp with gas and dude i cant complain for it being a cheapo. only paid like 360 for it.

Don't sweet the welds. Its just cause its a cheap flux. Once you can get a nice lincoln MIG the welds will improve a ton. My buddy had to use the MIG a couple days ago and i was stuck with the flux trying to tack somthing together. Sucked ass.

Works but not as stiff as i want the bed.

Not fully welded but it will stay for now. It's not really holding much. Just keeping the flex down.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Bought more square tubing to moutn the tank. I cut it but not bolting it on until Sunday when i can pull the bed. The passenger front bed support is messing up my bed. When it tilts the edge bends my bed floor. it's actually breaking some of the welds so i'm going to cut it down or remove it completely.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

he yI'm not trying to be a dick or anything - but you should turn up your wirespeed. gasless welders are harder to get good welds with in the first place, but your welds don't look like they are going to hold anything. 110v welders can work really great, just look for something with gas next. if it looks like there is a "ball" forming on the end of your weld wire, turn up the wirespeed more. if the weld isn't flowing into the metal, turn up the heat more. anyhow, good luck with everything

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

They seem to hold pretty well. I'm not great at welding thin stuff because i end up burning a hole through it but thick stuff i can weld pretty good. I'm still working on vertical welds but horizontal stuff where nothing is in my way and i can get to it pretty easily isn't too hard. Welding upside down....not so good. I don't think i'll ever master that.

What do you guys think about for the bag under the bed? I'm deciding between a dominator 2500,aim 2500,or one of those aim triple bags. I want to get the same lift that it has in the pictures but not sure if a 2500 bag would work or if i should get the triple. I know aim sucks but it's only going to be used to tilt the bed so i'm not worried so much about it being the best bag $ can buy. Worst case scenario the bag will go out and i'll just have to manualy lift the bed like i do now.

I may pull the bed and fix that mount and all after work. I'll get pics if i do anything worth showing.

Me too. I almost feel like just selling the damn piece of shit. It was pouring rain yesterday and when i got home i did some work and drove up to meet everyone and coasting through the parking lot in neutral is tried dieing on me so i put in gas and it did fine then on the way home it did it again. I'm wondering if pherhaps some water managed to get in the tank. It's done it before but last time wouldn't even drive. I'm going to try a lot of stuff before i go yanking out the engine if it's something i can fix easy with it still installed.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Yea that is one thing i love about my tilt bed. It's like working under the hood. Just lift up and do whatever needs to be done. If i had another truck i think i would do a tilt bed just for the reason that it's so much easier to do stuff like fuel pump and stuff.

I have to wait until Thursday when i get paid and i'm buying a new pump and filters. Fixing to look up prices in a sec. My friend Zack had to pull it 4 streets down the road and into the neighborhood with my friend Gary behind us with his flashers on then we pushed it up the hill and i coasted to my house. It's going to sit in my yard until Thursday which sucks ass...

Got rid of the barb fitting for my guage line. It's leaking on the union fitting where i extended the line for the new tank a while back though. I lost like 50psi last night.... got to fix that next. I hate cheap pushlocks...

Still needs bedliner but my way of holding the bed down. I need one at the back and i'm good.

Moved the tank forward and bolted it on to of the bar not under it for a little more ground clearance.

*****

Needs welding on the underside then wire wheeled and bedlined along with the bed

I never knew how much a difference an actual radio can make. Now i'm just trying to get an amp and two subs to complete my setup.

I would have done more but it being a broke down pile of shit right now kinda made me lose interest.....

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got it running yesterday after work. I put the pump in and it wouldn't work so i checked fuses and replaced a blown 10amp ecm fuse and it cranked. I checked the fuses that night and i didn't find any that were blown so i don't know if i overlooked it or what but i'm saving the old fuel pump and keeping it in the truck incase this one goes out then the other might still be good and i can easily swap it on the side of the road.

Soon as i can load the $ on my debit card i'm ordering some sheetmetal from suicide doors and doing a couple little things in addition to the remamining things i had left before biloxi. I'll try to get pics soon...

Couldn't you take the floor you cut out and use it to make a piece to go back where you cut it out? That would stiffen the bed back.

I thought about making a notch cover out of it so it would look like the bed floor just raised. I am considering some wheel tubs so that should stiffen it but it won't be before biloxi i don't think. I want to go ahead and get my windshield replaced and order the air for the bed. I need to spray the truck flat black Sunday when i have time. I have a couple hours or so today after work that i can spend on it and i'm going to brush on some bedliner on my 2x2 i welded to the frame and see if i can do something with my exhaust.

I just haven''t had much time lately.
