Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Had to do my neighbors lawn (Gas money..yay) but i managed to work on it a little. I put another coat of bedliner on the driverside notch and a couple coats on the passenger side. Still need to get in the spots where i didn't get and i need to put another coat of primer on the underside of the frame and bedline there. I removed the second bed mount on the passenger side too. Just brushed on a coat of primer cause i won't be doing anything with it until a week or two nd i don't want it to rust. Anyway got to get back to work and make it to my girlfriend's son,Charles' t-ball game still so i'll get to the pics

Sucks....

Just test fitting everything...

All the white pushlocks are temporary. I hate them because they won't tighten up enough and still leak a tiny bit. I'm replacing them all with suicide doors fittings when i'm done. Probably after scrapin because i still have a ton to do before i make the show

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Truck is at my friend's brother's house right now. It was way to late and i have to be up at 7:30am for work so we couldn't get the u-bolts back on in time so i had to call it a night. All of the welding it finished. I need to cleanit with the flap disk like before and prime/bedline it then bolt in the bags and install the remaining pieces of four link. These are the only pics i have right now.. truck pics will come tommorow.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Thanks. Here's the pics of the welding and stuff

Keep in mind it still needs to be hit with the flap disk and primed/bedlined. I'm going to bring the primer and angle grinder to work tommorow and do one coat in the parking lot on my lunch break and one more coat when i leave to go home.

Thanks. And i do. She knows how much it means to me so she tolerates me working on it as long as i don't spend all my time with it. It'll hopefully havve the bags on saturday or sunday. I just had a guy walk into the shop and asked who owned the little s10 and could he take a look at it.

Made me feel pretty good

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

New grill doesn't fit. I knew the headlights wouldn't line up with the pre '91 core support but i thought it would still bolt on....WRONG. I put on my 3 piece for now. I have to buy a 91+ core support from the junkyard soon as i can and swap it. My bumper and clear lenses are on though. My list of things i need to do for scrapin is growing.....

And no,the bumper lights don't work. They never have. I have to fix the wiring harness. But they look good in the daytime

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

All damn day but....it's done

My friend being retarded

In some of the pictures there weren't nuts or washers on bolts or they weren't tightened but keep in mine the pics were taken before, during, and after we were done. It's all bolted down and tight. My driveshaft rubs when i rid fully down in the back and lifted up front but that's cool. I can fix that in 2 minutes. Next we have to fix some air leaks and replace some fittings and i need to sand my cab and spray it flat black and swap doors.

Bed will be on tommorow after i fix the leaks on the tank fittings. It's only 1 or 2 spots. The rest are on the bag fittings which can be fixed with the bed on. I'm so ****ing happy right now...like when i drove to the gas station for gas after finishing up i had the biggest smile ever . Feels great to finally have it all bagged and laying out (Except the tires hit up front but once again 2 minutes and i can fix that. In other words: Angle grinder)

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Also before anybody rips on me,i plan to lengthen my wires later and route them neatly and i plan to replace all my union/pushlock/whatever fittings with suicidedoors fittings. The cheap ones were only temporary. And they are approved to around 170psi and i only run 140psi in the tank so i'm not worried.

at this point i would maybe mount the licence plate at the top of the tailgate. or ontop of the tailgate just so you dont get hassled for a hard to see plate.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Good idea but i'm not worried about it. I put it there knowing it would be low.
Went to the beach with my friends today and got some good pics. A little difficult fitting two people in the bed and our stuff with the floor cut. On the plus side i had at least 3 times where people were like "I like your truck" or "Do that again".. Pretty cool

oil was low so i put in my bottle of stop leak stuff and i can't tell a difference yet. I assume it takes a while to take effect. My seals or something is leaking from age

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

So you are only bracing the entire rear load capacity of the truck off a couple plates so-so welded to the notch and one piece of tubing between the notches?

I can not believe you would allow your friend to sit back there aswell. Your stress points are not equally braced which can allow that plate to flex and bend.

Please just get another piece welded in, personally I would never let something like that leave the shop let alone driving with weight on it.
Sorry if it seems harsh but safety is not something to screw around with.

I am just saying for his own safety and others around him, 5 dollars worth of steel is not something to risk the consequences for.

It would be one thing if he still had his bed off, and no weight. But with the weight of the bed plus people and such its just not safe. Do it once do it right don't skimp out on suspension.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

First of all my welding is good. The upper plates are welded on the top AND bottom aswell as welded to that bar. I only had enough steel to make one piece. I WANTED two but that wasn't possible. I plan to take my spare piece to a steel supply place not too far and get another piece like it and weld another bar in front. Don't start bashing me for shit that i already know. I don't mind constructive criticsm but being an asshole is completely different.

And yeah,i've never put on vinyl stickers before. I had to look up the how-to on the website to see how they went on. Serious. Even my girlfriend ripped on me for it not being staight but it's good enough for me.

My 4 link is doing fine for those who wanted to know. I did however bust a break line. It had a pinhole and when i hit the brake my fluid just sprayed out. It was on the right rear so i just called my girlfriend and my friend got me a brake line and when i got off work she drove me home to pick up my tools and me and my friend bled the brakes in my jobs parking lot after work once i got the cable on.

But anyway.... me and my friend worked on it all day today and here's pics and updates

Full rear lift

Lifted fully

Taking off the bumper

Bye bye '89 core support

New water pump just incase the old pos one went out during scrapin the coast

New core support thanks to a '93 blazer

Fastening...

Bling,bling...

I ripped the damn water pump gaskets trying to get it on and it leaks so i have to wait unil i get off work tommorow when the auto parts store is open to buy new gaskets and try again. I'm ****in tired......

Seriously? I was not being an asshole, If you know this then fix it. I can see in some of the pictures the plate is already bending upwards on the front edge.

As for your welding I am sure it will suffice but not but a couple weeks ago did you write about not welding much or before in general( i don;t recall off hand). But your welds do not have much for penetration into the notch or your one bridge bar. I just said the welds were so-so not perfect as no one's are.

All I was doing was giving a little constructive criticism and am called an asshole. Otherwise the 93 grill looks good, good luck on making the the show.

The way you said it just kinda pissed me off. I get the whole safety part though. I don't weld. My friend and his brother did my welding for me. I just helped hold stuff and measure. I need to get another piece welded but my friend is being a complete dick so i have nobody to weld. I will try to get another piece when i get paid and pay someone to weld it on for me.

I still have a list of things but it's getting smaller. Chances are i will make the show.

Just went through this whole thread. Shit man, that thing was haggard when you first got it, I mean damn! And when I got to the part where you were in that wreck. haha Thread reads like a bad story. Glad you finally got it fully laid out. Aint that the best feeling when it's late at night and you're sweaty and shit's a mess but you're done and it's laying on the ground. I remember finishing my 89 at like 3 or 4 in the morning and I was so worn out, I'm sure my friend was too, but it was just so freakin sweet to finally be done! And then you hit those switches for the first time... badass!

I didn't think he was being an asshole either. He even said sorry for being harsh. No reason to get pissed off.

You really need to get another brace in there asap though. I was really surprised to see people riding around back there with only the one brace. I thought you were just pushing luck with just you in the truck, but I really can't believe your friends rode back there. I know you want to drive around as much as possible now that you're bagged, but just wait until you have another brace. I thought I remember you saying you got that steel for pretty cheap?

Other than that, the truck looks good. The new bumper and grill look awesome.

I remember finishing my 89 at like 3 or 4 in the morning and I was so worn out, I'm sure my friend was too, but it was just so freakin sweet to finally be done! And then you hit those switches for the first time... badass!
Yeah it's a great feeling. I finished the front arund 11pm-12am and got the back done around the same time (Different days obviously) I remember just hitting the switches with no bags attached when i first bagged the front. It feels great having done so much work and getting to drive it and enjoy my hard work.

I got the steel from Nick which is why it was cheap. He is being an ass now though. I will have to go by a steel place and buy a piece. And i'm not pissed. I was in a bad mood when i came on and when i read that i took it like he was being an asshole about it. It's cool now...

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Bar won't work in front. My upper link bars and differential bracket hit. I'm going to do some gussets on the front. The steel i got it 1/4" thick and heavy as hell. Cost $30 for a square flat piece of it too. I'm going to measure and mark it then cut off two gussets from it and weld them on the front of the brackets. That should do the trick..
