Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I just changed the rear spark plugs on both sides and it runs better now but i still get some stumbling after a bit. I'm waiting on Eric to bring by his timing light and for Nick and his brother to get here to check the timing again. His brother is an amazing mechanic from what he says so hopefully he'll be able to find the problem.

I am soooo close to driving it except for bleeding the brakes, clutch, and getting the engine to run top notch.

It ran good enough though that i could run my compressor from 0-140psi so that's an improvement. Before it would stumble and start dying long before 80psi.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Wires going to the injectors wre making it flood out so he fixed that and he said replace a vacuum line, connect a ground that i missed on the back of the head, and drill and tap the intake then put another bolt back in the throttle body because that could be causing it to flood out too.

The timing is still a little off but we couldn't get the timing light so he will bring his from the shop next weekend. He said he can get it running right because he doesn't think it's the intake leaking so it won't be much to fix. If it runs right next weekend after setting the timing then he's bleeding my brakes and clutch then once i hook up my headlights and tail lights i'll be back on the road

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I wish. So far they seem to be winning. I changed that vacuum line, drilled and re-tapped the intake so i have all 3 bolts in the throttle body again, and i connected that ground wire to the back of the head. It runs better now it seems but it stumbles when i hold the gas pedal down steady (not a lot but steady)

I guess that's timing? It's got to be reset this Sunday when Nick's brother comes back. If it runs right after that then we'll proceed to bleeding the brakes and clutch then i'll be back to draggin' down highway 98. After i'm 100% sure i have no gas leaks that is

Nope. I tried to bleed the clutch but it wasn't happening so i gave up. I might try to bleed it tommorow after work but if not i'll just pay Nick's brother to do it. I'm definately not fooling with the brakes.

No pics. I was busy but not with the truck. I will be trying to bleed the clutch this evening and hopefully get it running properly Sunday then bleed the brakes. I've got to get the electric radiator fan on it too.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Tried bleeding the clutch but still nothing. I seriously suck at bleeding hydraulic stuff. I'm just waiting and letting Nick's brother do it since he actually knows what he's doing. If i can get a jack then i'm going to pull a leaf and buy some bolts so i can bolt my shocks back on. Then i can check for air leaks and put my bed back on. I've got a jack but i need to get it from Nick which means getting a ride out to pick it up since his truck is messed up right now also

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Bought bolts for the grounds to the back of the heads, shifter, and bolts for the water pump pulley so i could remove the fan clutch and install my electric fan. All the bolts are in except the shifter bolts because my dumb ass got bolts that were the same tpi but slightly larger in diameter. I've got to buy more for the shifter tommorow and buy the bolts for my shocks too. Waiting to see when Nick's brother is coming by and get the engine timed and the brake/clutch bled. I keep forgetting but i also have to get my tire by a shop to have it fixed. It leaks all around the rim and won't hold air for more than a few hours..

Timing is set and it runs now. Still smokes and it sounds a little funky when giving it gas but it hasn't driven in 2 months so that's kinda to be expected. I'm fixing to bolt down the shifter and bolt on the shocks now then Nick's brother will be back to bleed the clutch and brake.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Brakes are bled. The clutch wasn't working right so he's got to come over Wednesday after i get off work and jack it up and pull the slave cylinder and bleed the clutch again. I still have to bolt on the shocks and put the remaining shifter bolts in but it's too cold outside so i'm not worried about it today. Looks like mom will be giving me a ride to work tommorow afterall....

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I would post pics but it's nothing to look at right now. I did a ghetto spraypaint job on the old shocks so they would look halfway decent but they still look like crap. I'm going to buy some new ones later but with Christmas coming up i won't be able to for a couple weeks.

I have to put some wire connectors on,bleed the clutch, put on headlights, tail lights, grill, fan, and finish plugging up a couple more wires. I should have it on the road by Christmas eve or Christmas day if everything keeps going like it is. The shocks are on it but that's about it for tonight.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I'll try to get a couple pics tonight but it'm kinda busy with Christmas shopping and gift wrapping. I'm going to try and get my headlights and tail-lights on tonight and working. While i'm at it i'm looking for a spare mechanical fan that i can put on for now until i get the rest of the stuff for the electric fan.

If the headlights get done tonight i'll go ahead and put on my grill and headlight pieces too. Also need to put some wire connectors on a few wires. I've got an alligator clip holding my power wire for my compressor together right now because i didn't have any more connectors yet...

I still have to get my tire fixed so that's why i still have the odd rear wheel on. I'm trying to figure out the headlights but ****ing wiring sucks. I'm going to pull the harness off the parts truck bed and run some tail lights though and use spare lenses so i can drive it without the bed on for a few days while i clean it out and spray it flat black.

Yep! I have to put the passenger headlight tonight. My girlfriend came by and we had to leave shortly after so i only had time to get the driverside hooked up. I actually have to get a new end for the passenger lights because it go torn off my wiring harness. I probably have one laying around somewhere in my old parts that i can cut and use. I've also got to get the wiring harness off the parts truck bed still and get some bulbs and hook up some tail lights.

My clutch is supposed to get fixed today and i'm going to try and find another fan clutch and fan blade and run a mechanical fan for now. Pics later. If the clutch and fan get's done today i am taking it for a test drive around the neighborhood even if i don't have tail lights.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

It keeps pouring off and on but i'm getting a little bit done in-between rain showers. I can't find all the bolts/screws i need so some things are just handing there for now but i've got to get some gas so i'll pick up the stuff i need then. I have my tail lights working (Not the brake lights but i need bulbs) and i rigged up a way to run them without a bed (Using pipe & the wiring harness off the parts truck bed aswell as spare lenses) It's ghetto but i did it about as proper as i could and it works for now. I also cut the end off for my passenger headlight using the wiring harness form the parts truck cab. I haven't wired it together yet though.

Still waiting on Nick's brother to come by and do my clutch so i can test drive it around the block. Here's some pics for now.

At least it works until i put my bed on....

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I sprayed it flat black so the pipe would blend in and not be so noticeable. It turned out pretty good for a ghetto fix. My passenger headlight is now in and working but my tail lights and interior lights went out. I think i might have gotten something crossed when i was connecting the piece for the light onto my wiring harness. Funny thing though,i replaced one fuse that was blown and i still don't get any interior lights or tail lights.
I'll have to disconnect the light form my wiring harness and see if maybe that fixes it. Pherhaps a wire is crossing somewhere and ****ing with the power going to my tail lights and interior?

Whatever it is it's pissing me off. The clutch didn't get bled either because i never heard from Nick's brother. I don't know what happened but i was really hoping to have it driving tommorow..

Just another speed bump though. I need to go get a fan blade anyways so i guess it all worked out.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Looks like it's coming along pretty good. For bleeding the clutch, you could try gravity bleeding it yourself. A lot of times that'll get it close enough to use, and the rest of the air will work its way out over the next couple days of driving it. Just top off the reservoir, then go under the truck and open the bleeder screw and let the fluid run out for a second, then close it, and top off the reservoir again. Repeat until you get a steady stream of fluid out of the bleeder screw.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I fixed the light problem. I had to put in a 20amp fuse instead of 25 because i ran out but i did that and un-did the wiring that i did for the passenger headlight and it works now. I think i hooked up a wire that wasn't supposed to go to the headlight on accident. Before i try again i'm going over my wiring diagram one more time just to double check.

I never heard of bleeding the clutch that way. I thought you had to hold the pedal and apply pressure for anything to run out of the line. But then again i know next to nothing about bleeding hydraulics. I can barely bleed hydraulic disk brakes on high end mountain bikes at work.

The problem with my clutch was the pedal won't go to the floor anymore but there is still no resistance. Bobby said that something wasn't right so he was going to pull the slave cylinder and check it out. I had already pulled it out once but i used the inspection hole and it felt like everything was where it should be.

Is there something i'm missing?

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Aha! I pulled the slave cylinder and the push rod was so not in the right spot. It was wedged down between the thing it was supposed to push on and the inside of the transmission. I put it back in right and bled it a couple more times (Bobby bled it already but still) and pumped the pedal (Mom helped) and it worked! I feel like a kid with a brand spankin new truck right now

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I would have driven around the block but i need to put on a fan for the radiator still and i need to find the rest of my lugnuts. The right rear wheel is only being held on by one lug nut right now. It's only been rolled around the yard though so it wasn't too bad. I might have to buy some more because i'm pretty sure i'll never find those. I'll have to wait until after christmas when stores open back up to get the lugnuts.

I probably could but i needed a vehicle at the time. If you live close i'd so help you bag yours

To bag it you need

Valves
Tank
Line
Fittings
Bags
Bag cups
Switchbox
Wire & connectors
Relay
Compressor

I think that's just about it. The fittings will cost about as much as the compressor when you're done..

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I put the machanical fan back on for now and i lengthened some wires so i could plug them into the side of the transmission (Sensors?) When i tried to crank it though it acted as if it was dead so i hooked up the charger to it and set to medium charge rate and after a few seconds i turned the key and ti started right up and the battery showed 14 volts. It had cranked about 5 minutes earlier.

I'm test driving it today once my mom get's back form the tire shop with my tire (Had it repaired because it leaked after the wreck) and more lugnuts.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Test drove it down to the end of my road with my girlfriend and it stutters bad but it won't die. I need to drill a hole in the fender (inside) and put a bolt in cause the back of the tray kinda fell down and my battery almost fell off when i test drove it...

The worst part though, the hose i used on the power steering pump line blew off on the way back down my street and i had a hell of a time steering it. Also i now have a nice and slimy engine bay from power steering fluid spraying everywhere.

Other than those two things it's all good. I need to figure out the stuttering and then get that damn power steering line fixed so it won't shoot fluid all over my hood and engine again..

the problem with that line is that its a high pressure line, i know you used ps line for it but that was the low pressure return line, just patching it wont work, itll blow....just like that lol, your gonna have to replace it with the original line, they arent that expensive for these old trucks

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Girlfriend drove me to advance and i bought:

Air cleaner stud (Snapped mine off when i was moving the engine..)
New spark plugs
New spark plug wires
New line for the power steering
More power steering fluid.

That's it i think. I would put it all on but i got ****ing sick last night and had a 102.0 fever after i got home so i don't feel like it yet. I'm off to the doctor in a sec so hopefully i'll get a huge shot and feel better. My girlfriend used to get on me every day about not taking my medicine last time i got sick about a week ago.....pherhaps i should have listened to her.. .

Nice!
Is your egr valve clean? THat could make the engine stutter? and do you have all your exhaust off? If so its not your cat then. But that would be my next guess.

Your almost there. Couple more things and she'll be as good as new
