Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Hey kiko is that piece that broke off plastic?????

if so, go into the home depot and go to the sprinkler system aisle and get a tool, that i cant remember the name, but it looks like a T with teeth at the bottom. Its used for when you break the nipple off between the sprinkler head and the pipe. USE THAT TO TAKE OUT THAT PIECE.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

It's not plastic. It's some cheap metal that they used. I tried unscrewing it then i wiggled it around with my hand because it wouldn't come out and it just broke off. I can't get it with plyers and the screwdriver won't break it because it isn't quite as brittle as it looks. I will have to try vice grips which will probably break part off where i put them so more than likely i will have to buy a special tool from lowes to get it out. Really, advance might have something.

I just need a good, strong bolt extractor that i can get into the middle of the broken piece (Hollow, obviously) and then crank down on it with a wrench or something and back it out or at least snap the rest of it off so it's not screwed in. If i felt like messing with the timing i would just pull the intake manifold and get and edelbrock performer manifold to replace it.

I know. It would run better too but i don't really want to get that deep into it right now. If i had another truck i wouldn't really mind but i miss driving.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Tried using a extractor but no luck. The piece didn't give one bit but it did manage to split my intake manifold where the threaded peice was. Now i can either put the intake manifold off my blazer 4.3 on it or wait another week or so and buy an edelbrock. I may just buy gaskets in a few minutes and swap the intake manifodl with my other 4.3 when my friend Nick gets here..

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I priced and they run $261.95 for an edelbrock. I cleaned up the one ff my blazer 4.3 and i'm putting it on. I pulled the old manifold by myself then my friend Nick came over and we scraped the old gasket off and polished everything up so it's nice and clean. We have to clean some gunk off then we can put the new gaskets on and put the other manifold on and install everything. I'm debating wether to polish the manifold or spray it glossy black.

Any ideas?

The rest is pretty clean. I cleaned it months ago when it was still running. I just need to get a couple spots. The manifold will be on tommorow for sure but hopefully later tonight after work.

Intake off

The intake off my blazer 4.3 that is going on my truck. It needs a little more cleaning but it's in good shape.

More pics when we start putting it on.

Not to sound like a dick but you know there is a torque sequence and spec for the intake right? Just making sure so you do not have an issue later.

looks good

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

well i asked if you were gonna clean the engine cuz that would help deciding on polishing or spraying it black.

I never liked chrome til about a year ago thought it was too much. But if you clean up your engine i would say polish it.
But black is always a good choice.

but its up to you

I figured so since almost everything has a sequence or rating. I haven't put anything back on yet though. I'll look into the sequence and spec before i do it.

Manifold is on and torqued. Me and Nick started bolting stuff on but it got too cold. The temp is like 30 something here tonight AND wind is blowing. I'll put more work in tommorow when i get home.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Transmission is now bolted to the crossmember. I've got to bolt down the throttle body tommorow and bolt on the egr. Now that my transmission is in the hole on the crossmember and bolted down i can put my cab on without causing problems later when i try to put stuff on.

My new fitting form suicide doors came in today. I'll try and get it on tommorow and make sure it doesn't leak then tighten everything on the front end.

No pics but i'll get some when i get the cab on.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Fixed my leak. It still wanted to leak with the new fitting so i cut the end of the line and it stopped. I guess it wasn't the fitting like i thought. Oh well,i have another fitting for when i bag the back. The front end is now bolted back together and on the ground. I've got to get the throttle body on in a little bit when Nick comes over then we're going to try and pick up my cab and set it on the frame. I lifted the side by myself and it didn't feel too heavy considering i'm not exactly very big and i didn't have to strain to lift it.

Hopefully the two of us together will be strong enough to lift it just long enough to set it down onto the frame.Got to get some rain water out of the 13 gallon tank though because some got in it through the duct tape that i had covering the top then i'm putting my fuel pump assembly into the tank and probably putting $3 worth of gas in just to have enough to crank it.

I will hopefully be able to buy a brand new radiator from advance this thursday and i will buy some black spraypaint and paint the core support off my parts truck before i put it onto my truck. It's coming along alright, just having some minor annoyances.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Nothing majorly exciting but..

Picking up a fuel line for my throttle body and some black spraypaint for the "new" core support. I've been calling and it looks like i will have people over Sunday after 12 to help lift the cab up (Already unbolted and stuff) and onto the new frame. Then i can hopefully connect everything and turn the key and crank it..

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Thanks. I have the radiator fan blade on and i'm working on repairing a fuel line right now. One of the lines coming off the throttle body got broken and i'm having to bend a new piece and get the new section to line up with the old section so i can get the compression fitting on tight. It's a bitch to bend that stuff...

I'm done for the night because the wind is blowing really bad and blowing my stuff around and pissing me off. I'll work on it for a couple hours tommorow after work.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Edit: Forgot to mention a big thanks to Nick,Russel, and Jerome. Also my mom and dad helped. Without everybody i would have never gotten the cab off and put onto the new frame

The fuel line repair kit from advance. Fitting ****ed up so i had to buy another crush sleeve and but for it but it's all good now. I think this has to be one of the most annoying repairs ever.

The core support i'm using from the parts truck...

Cleaned...

Cab is on....i still need to get everything bolted down and hooked back up.

Check out the sweet ass frame...

Much nicer sight than before..

I'm off to do a little work to it tonight. Not much but just whatever i can do tonight...

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Generic stuff from the hardware store and walmart. I bought a gallon of red "rust stop" primer from ace hardware and primed the frame then bought the $45 duplicolor bedliner kit from walmart. Mixed it up,brushed/rolled it on and that's about it. All together i spent maybe $100 on the whole frame (Coating)

It chips if you drag stuff across it like what happened when we were putting the cab on but it looks good and so far seems to handle weather fine. I wouldn't recommend it on an actual bed though where you'll be sliding stuff across it.

And before someone says anything, the left rear tire is temporary. I need to take my wheel to a tire shop and have the bead fixed because it leaks and won't hold air for more than a day. That one is off my blazer and is on just so it can be moved.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

It's starting to look like a truck again! From the looks of things, you might be able to have it driving in the next week or so. Great idea on the bedliner material on the frame, I might do the same thing when I pull my bed off for a notch sometime in the next couple months. And please get yourself a proper air tank, the carry tank is just a little bit ghetto (I'm guilty of it too )

The tank in the last photos is my portable 7 gallon. I have a 5 gallon portable tank that i got free from my friend Nick because he had gotten a new tank and didn't need it. I'd like to eventually upgrade to an 8 gallon but i don't want to run a single viair 400 on an 8 gallon. It takes long enough to get my 5 gallon to 140psi. I'd like dual 480's minimum on an 8.

Not yet. I haven't put the distributor back in and i still have some more wires to hook up. The core support is now painted and the cab is bolted down. Before i can start it up i have to put in my fuel pump assembly, put some gas in,finish connecting the wires, charge my battery, and set the timing. I'll give you a call this weekend maybe and if you're not busy you could bring over the timing light?

I definately can't wait to have transportation again. Riding my bikes or getting someone to drive me ****ing blows...

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Bought some new grade 8 bolts/nuts and bolted my engine down proper and tightened it up good. I'm getting any water that's in my gas tank out tommorow then putting some gas in and installing my fuel pump assembly. Also hooking up some more wires and installing my radiator filler neck and thermostat. I'll try to find my other radiator core support bushing because i know i have another laying around my yard from the other truck. If so i'll put that on and touch up some areas of the bedliner where it got messed up from putting on the cab.

My goal is to at least be able to get in,turn the key,and crank it by Sunday evening.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Radiator filler neck is bolted on,the ground wires that go to it are on,distributor is now secured, and the heater hose is on the motor. I need to cut the heater hose and connect it to the heater core aswell as connect my plwires to the distributor. Aside from that there isn't much left that i have to do in order to crank it i don't think. I need too clean my gas tank tommorow and put some gas in a wire up my fuel pump by that's pretty easy.

More progress tommorow i hope.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got sandpaper and some flat black paint. The driverside fender is finished except for some final sanding to make it smooth. The passenger side will be done tommorow. I'll probably do the hood Monday or Tuesday because it's not supposed to rain this week so i won't need it. I've got to connect my + battery wire and starter wire along with the other wires. Hoping to have it cranked up tomorow. Wish me luck!

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Connected some more stuff and got my fuel pump in and wired. Still need to bolt on the core support but it's way too cold now to keep working. I'll work more on it after work tommorow evening. I atleast get power mow when i turn the key forward. That's a pretty big improvement to me

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

My battery is completely ****ed. It won't hold charge so my friend Nick who has a '91 sonoma came over to help me work on my truck and we used his truck battery to turn over my engine and it works absolutely fine with his. We got it to turn over then t flooded and the throttle body caught a small fire and we had to blow it out but it was fine. After that we tried and it spit gas back out of the throttle body. A friend of ours (Named James also) came over and said he knew what was wrong and he took the distributor out after we got the #1 piston TDC and lined it up and after fiddling with it for a couple minutes we got it to crank up for half a second before dieing (Although it hesitated on cranking)

I do at least know it will crank though. We need to get it to crank up and run steady for a few seconds then we can install a radiator and fenders then tighten everything up and i'll be good after we bleed the brakes and clutch.

I may work on it tommorow after work but i kinda doubt it. I'm probably going to see my new lady friend then i'll work on it Thursday when i have money to buy my own battery for it and not have to use Nick's.

Beat me to saying that. You're going to have to just keep moving the distributor around until it gets to where it wants to run decent. Then we'll throw the timing light on it and set it right.
