Sounds good. I would have to get a ride out there anyways. If we go in her dads truck you can ride with us if you want. It's got the half doors or w/e you want to call them. I'm going there soon as i get $100-$200 and buying a shitload of stuff to get it driveable.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Update:

Core support is off and both fenders are off. The motor mounts look like they moved a little so if i can lift the engine up some and loosen the mounts and move them back to the passenger side some it should center the motor and get it back where it was.

I need to get a floorjakc under the truck to lift it so i can remove my right, front wheel and get the tire fixed or replaced then put it back on. That will get it almost normal again. I then need to cut the frame and have those pieces welded back on. After that is on and the 2x2" crossmember between the frame for support i will almost be ready to bolt on fenders and everything then pherhaps test drive it (SLOWLY!) around the neighborhood. =)

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Of course

Bag setup still works

The frame only appears bent in FRONT of the control arms so i just need to unbolt anything bolted to that section and measure then cut it off and measure 2 new pieces and weld them to replace the old pieces.

Engine sits crooked but i checked and it appears to be the motor mounts. From what i can tell something shifted involving them so i should be able to loosen them, lift then engine up a little, move it back centered, then tighten the mounts back down. I just need to get my hands on an engine lift.

Flat tire but it could have just gotten pushed off the rim and let the air out. I can't tell for sure yet but i plan to try airing it up first before taking it off.

Stripped and waiting for me to fix the frame and align the engine. Once those two things are done the major parts will be out of the way. Then it's on to installing the radiator and putting on my core support, fenders, hood, and headlights. Also aligning the bed and bolting it back down (Always been a bitch)

Oh,and this is what's left of my grill and lights... ****in bitch

I'm making decent progress on it but i lack the funds this week to make a shopping spree at the junkyard. My goal is to atleast have it back driving down the road by my birthday in November. It'll be my birthday gift to myself

that frame rail looks twisted badly, and since you idler arm bolts to it, its going to severly scew with your driving ability of it. Id highly suggest putting that on a frame machine, and get it checked out. As bad as that front horn is i assure you the first 2 feet of that rail is out of whack

edit, both those rails look pretty pushed to the passenger side also. Really suck to see it happen when y ou were making good process. Id call around about getting it put on a machine to check it out and see what they can do

it might be cheaper to get a new frame, I bet it is bent behind the spring pockets. That was a hell of a hit glad you guys are ok. good luck on the rebuild just remember to not rush it.

I checked behind the control arms and it looks the same. I stood over the engine and looked down also and the tires look lined up and straight. The front section of the frame is ****ed after the control arms for sure. Once the frame is fixed i plan to have some crossmembers made to insure that frame stays solid.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Just was thinking about your truck, the frame took a good hit and sectioning that part of the frame into your current frame is risky since that patch will have to hold up to the same impact or worst in case of another accident.

I had less of a hit taking out of a frame of mine to the tune of 700 dollars on a frame rack. And since it is a regular cab s10, might be simpler and cheaper to buy a new frame and transfer your bed, cab motor and tranny over too.

Also you would be able to clean everything thing up real nice on the transfer over too. Trust me I know what it is like to want to keep the same truck after putting alot of work into it. Just want to make sure it gets put together right.

Yeah, my vote is for getting another s10 frame and just transferring parts.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

I don't really plan to drive it daily when it's repaired. I will only drive it for a short while until i can buy another cheap truck for a daily. My only worry ab out the front section being replaced is making sure the welds are good enough to hold the frame together once the weight of the core support, radiator, grill, and bumper arer on it.

I will start fixing more soon. I need to get some tools that i need first.

Please buy another frame and transfer your parts over.. As much as you want to save this one, its just not smart. If you do fix this frame, at least have it welded up by a professional.

I'll definately be having someone who knows what they are doing weld it. I don't intend to weld it myself.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

If i straighten it i will. I took off the bed and the rear goes to the left some. I might just say **** it and buy this $500 rolling chassis '82 from the classifieds i just picked up.

I'm working on possibly a $300 regular cab square body. The body i was told is in good shape and it's not for sure if it runs so that is a deciding factor on if i buy it. I have to talk to the neighbor who offered to sell it and go take a look asap.

IF the truck he's wanting to sell me runs and drives i'm planning to buy it so i can have a vehicle to drive again and buy a parts truck to strip and use the frame off the parts truck to put the parts off this truck onto.

If i get another regular cab square body i definately want to make it a drag truck once i get a new frame for this one. Just check back because right now i'm not sure but if it runs i definately want this other truck for $300.

That would make my count....3 square body s10's

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Ok,truck is pre '91 so i need a core support BUT everything lines up. Nothing is damaged and the bed is good. Cab is good and the front windshield is good. I'm paying $250 and i'm supposed to get it tommorow. The front tires are flat so we couldn't tow it but i'm bringing my rear wheels and putting them on the front of that truck so the guy can tow it to my house.

Once it's here i'll start stripping the parts. I forget but it's either a 2.5 or 2.8 and manual transmission. If anybody is interested in the engine and transmission they will be for sale. I'll also be parting out any of the other body parts that i don't need as i will be swapping all of my parts over to this trucks frame.

I'll post pics when i get it. In 2 weeks i should have it all swapped over with the help of my friends after work.

sweet, i def. wouldnt try fixing that frame, you really dont have alot done to it to where you cant be back at the same point again since you have the bag parts.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

True. i will be using my cab and everything though. I only want the frame from the other truck. I will use the control arms on it though since i don't want to swap them. I will be using my drop spindles on the new frame and then installing my bag setup on it and i will be using my rear axle and leaf springs. The cab, bed, engine, transmission, and everything else off my truck will be put on the new frame AFTER i sand it and coat it with undercoating to clean it up.

I have my driveshaft tunnel and bridge plates in for the rear. I need to buy more once i get everything swapped over to this new frame then i can resume my work on buying parts and bagging the back. I'm thinking about buying a cheap welder (Good one though) and learning to weld so i can just weld my own shit when i get ready to bag the rear. It beats stripping it and driving 20 miles like that to have it welded then 20 back and having to put everything back.

I dunno but i would definately love to have my own welding stuff. I'll post some pics when i get it home tommorow.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got my parts truck for $250. I got kinda scared when i got home that i ****ed up and bought a longbed but i measured and the beds are the same. They just look different for some reason.

I'm using the frame form the parts truck and the front windshield. I will also be using the upper and lower control arms. The rest will come from my truck (Even leaf springs) I have to buy a radiator though and core support for a '91

The truck i bought doesn't run obviously and it's a 2.5 manual. It's got some nice goodies on it that i cna use on stuff or strip and sell. If anybody wants something pm me and i will let you know if i'm getting rid of it and a price.

I will be sanding the frame and coating it black before my parts are put on it. I think that's about it. I will be moving my airtank to the rear of the frame and making a mount but besides that nothing else will really change right now.

I'll start stripping it tommorow and when i can get my friends over we will get the big stuff off.

Yup =)
I need it stripped then i'm buying 2 gallons of black bed liner and brushing it onto the frame once i sand it down. When that is dry i'll start putting some of my parts onto the frame. I need to get an engine lift form my friend Eric before i can transfer the engine and transmission

Just for fun i thought i'd get a pic of my front yard right now while this is going on. It normally doesn't have parts in it but with the parts truck and my old scrap parts there it looks like my own mini junkyard

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Got the bed off finally. Damn bolts are a bitch to break loose the first time (I remembered that from when i changed my bed so i was prepared with a bitch stick.... aka pipe )

Next i will remove the hood, and fenders. Once those are off i'll take out the core support and then next will be pulling the cab. Once everything else is off i will pull the gas tank and then engine/transmission. Once all of that is gone i will be able to get my friend Russel over with his angle grinder and we'll each sand the frame at the same time and get it cleaned up in a matter of 1-2 hours. Once that's finished i'm buying 2 gallons of black bed liner and rolling it onto the frame before setting MY engine/transmission onto it.
