My newly acquired truck! =]

I stumbled upon this truck on my way home from work Saturday around 12:30pm. By 5:30pm Saturday i was talking $$ with the owner of the truck and inspecting it. And around 6:00pm Monday (Yesterday) I was driving it home
I'm friekin pumped. I've been working and saving my $$ for months trying to find the truck i wanted but the ones i found were pieces of shit or i couldn't afford the asking price. But i guess Someone upstairs likes me a lot.

The truck itself is good. The bed is dented and rusted through in spots so it's done for. Also the passenger door is dented beyond repair. It looks like someone kicked it full force because the whole outside is dented in. So it's done for too. Plans right now are to buy a nice bed from the local u-pull it and swap beds then buy a passenger door from the u-pull it and swap it too. But before i do that i'm changing my oil and filter aswell as having the timing checked and having the spark plugs AND wires replaced. After that i might put a 12" or larger chrome edelbrock open style air cleaner assembly and filter on it. The current filter looks ok but it's kinda dingy. I have a 10" edelbrock but the truck seemed to bog down when idling after putting it on so i put the stock cleaner back on.

But I'll get down to the specs. The truck is a 1991 regular cab s10 pickup. It's got the 4.3 v6 and a 5 speed manual transmission with hurst shifter knob. It's got a little over 180,000 miles on the odometer i believe. Besides idling up and down when the motor is cold it runs good. It shifts fine and won't hesitate to spin tires (I kinda accidently killed part of my girlfriend's grass just driving off..)

This truck WILL be my daily. Plans are to static drop it 2/3 and eventually bag it. I'm only running 18's on this truck and i plan to keep my muffler as it's already plenty loud. I'll be leaving the motor stock except for chrome goodies. The exaughst will be removed and i'll have dual pipes and mufflers that will be hidden under the bed. Eventually i plan to get a nice snap on cover for the bed also. Oh,and i plan to have it repainted the same colors (Black/grey)

Side shot (It has some white paint drops on it that i have to scrub off tommorow when it's daylight)

The bumper is bent and needs replacing but i love the fact it already had the chrome 1 piece grill

My OLD oil filler plug

My NEW oil filler plug

Motor shot (I wiped down the fan shroud. I have to wipe down the rest of it tommorow. It's all covered in dirt)

Shifter

The interior is ok but it needs cleaning tommorow. I'm going to try and find a nice bench seat that isn't worn out so bad.

My bed is good enough to hold stuff but it's going to need replacing

Do i really need to say anything?

I will get some better photos tommorow. My flash on my camera won't extend far enough to light up the truck good.

$700 cash. Thanks to saving i have $350 leftover for my tag, title transfer, and insurance. I'm going to take a bunch of photos tommorow when it's daylight. My camera makes it looks like crap cause it's too dark right now.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

It's been parked since 2004 so it needed cleaning up. I'm not too worried about the interior. I just want to get it registered already but thanks to mardi gras the dmv is closed until tommorow. I should be picking up a bed for it around wednesday or thursday. I'm mainly concerned with getting a tune-up and the timing checked aswell as an oil change. After that the main thing would be to replace that rusted out bed and the dented door. I'm not really worried about the bumpers right now.

I just got it last night so i haven't done much yet. I'm trying to hold off until i have my insurance and tag so i know how much $$ i have left to spend on it this week.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Alright,so the dmv is finally open. I got my insurance, title transferred, and my tag. In other words,i've been driving the hell out of it today (Actually not really. I drive it like it's worth a million bucks...)

My driverside headlight was all ****ed up. It was broken and filled with water so yea,it didn't work. I decided to replace both since they're cheap and my friends helped me put them in while we were hanging out at my house. The alignment might be off some but we checked and it looks ok to us. The passenger headlight is dim though. I think one of my wires might be bad so i will look into replacing the wire for the passenger headlight soon. I hate it looking wierd with one bright light and one dim

It should be easy to figure out what i'm going to be doing tommorow when i get time

And what else i'll be doing..

When my friend gets home from school he's riding with me to the local u-pull it and we're going to look for a new bed. If i can find a black/grey one like mine it would be sweet but i'll settle for a solid black one. At least it will somewhat match until i can afford to re-paint it. But we'll be putting that bed in the back and strapping it down then hauling it back to my house and swap the bed. Next i'm going to have my brakes and engine timing checked. I'm mostly doing tune-up stuff right now. I will be looking for a rollpan and a cowl hood at the u-pull it if they have any. Then i might 2/3 drop it after i put a new passenger door on. It's coming along smoothly so far *knock on wood*

Yeah i'm not counting on finding one but i figure since i am already going to be there i might aswell look for a hood and rollpan y'know? But i'll be putting the bed on today if i find one. I just got done replacing all six spark plugs and all the spark plug wires (Including the coil to distributor wire) and changing my oil/filter. It purrs like a kitten now

Just a random photo. One of the spark plugs had the little L piece (I don't really know the technical name) bent down towards the electrode. I was wondering why it shook so much when i first drove it. But with the 6 new plugs and wires it purrs like a kitten....on steroids that is :P

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

No luck on my bed. I looked at one place and didn't find any s10's. I'm going to check another place near me that deals especially in s10's and see what i can find. But tommorow i'm picking up a new right front shock. Mine is toast. The bushing on top is completely gone and it's causing my right front to shake and vibrate really bad when i stop quick. It feels almost like my rotor is ****ed but i know it's not that because it didn't do it the first time i drove it. But now after some miles the bushing that was already turning to dust is completely gone. Pics tommorow evening after i get the shock on.

I would....but i don't have the cash right now. I might have enough for a bed after this and that's all until i get paid the $180-$200 for the lawncare job i'm finishing up today. After that i can get more parts.

Sweet. How good are you at priming? Because if you would i'd pay for the primer if you could prime the whole hood for me. I'll let you know when i get money for the hood and i'll get it from you. You aren't needing to sell it real soon are you?

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

On my way to the lawncare job i picked up my new shock at the auto parts store. I got a pretty basic shock for it since i'm going to lower it 2/3 later and will need new shocks anyways.

The shock we put on

The old shock we took off (We had to actually cut it to get it off because the top bolt wouldn't come off)

The new shock in place

Another angle

My dad helped me put them on which was cool because i've always wanted to do the whole "father/son working on cars" thing but never got to do it as a kid. But it's on now. I think it needs to be tightened on top just a LITTLE bit more. It doesn't knock like before but it still makes a tiny noise on that side if i get on the brakes heavy.

My new bed will be on in about a week or sooner depending on when i get my money. Also is the rollpan and a new hood. Then a replacement for the passenger door.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

Minor updates. I finally got around to buying a new air filter.

Here's the old one that came on it. (Look at how disgusting it is...ugh)

And tommorow i will be replacing the pins on my driver-side door. It's wanting to sag and is a bitch to close. Besides some dents and it needing the lock replaced it's in pretty good shape. I'll pop the dents out when i get the lock and pins installed.

And does anyone by any chance have a window clip or know a place i could buy one? I don't really want to walk through a junkyard just to pull off a window clip. It's the clip that keeps the glass from falling forward when you roll down the window.

Definately! I was looking at it today while sitting at dominoes waiting on my g/f and the fenders and cab are pretty straight. The driver door is good too. But the bed and passenger door kills it. If it had a new bed and rollpan on it would look good.

LMC part # 29-7800.
I was thinking someone bought them cheaper somewhere.
I guess Advance is no longer selling them, they were the HELP! brand, but it appears they are no longer in bussiness I guess.

Re: My newly acquired truck! =]

No new parts yet. I'm still waiting for some money to come in. I haven't worked much lately because it's slow but i should be getting some money soon and be able to at least afford a rollpan and possibly the bed this weekend. For now here's a couple photos from earlier tonight when me and one of my friends drove downtown with our bmx bikes in the back to go ride.

Just the truck..

The truck and me...

And a random photo of the bikes in the bed. I was actually a little scared mine would fall through...

The bikes? My friend's bike is a partially stock eastern. I don't remember the frame model. Mine is a 2005 t1 barcode frame and mostly odyssey and primo parts. I have a new back rim and cassette hub sitting in my room right now but i don't have the spokes to lace it with or i would have that on finally

There is a a junkyard off of oldshell and schillinger rd area that I am sure would have your bed. If not. on hwy 98 going towards semmes area, there is a place called alabama auto dismantlers. I used to pick up tons of stuff from them. They are a good place to look for a bed. Good luck on the build.

Alabama auto dismantlers is right across from my street
I tried the ace u-pull it off old shell and they didn't even have one s10 (Even though i was told "Yea we got some s10's come take a look") I'm going to try a place called barry's u-pull it. I heard they're overflowing with s10's.
