My new daily project

My new to me 1997 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado.

Power windows, locks, and seat (split w/console). A/C, dual air bags, CC 5.7, 4l60e with dual Flowmasters. Suspension is lowered to level it out.

So far I've put a new radiator, rotors, bearings and pads, oil change and a door handle. Needs minor cosmetic work, cleans up very nice! Runs and drives like a brand new truck. Plans and pics are to be posted around noon.

I have to take more pictures today. She'll be completely rust free in 2 weeks, though I know you cant see any in the pictures. Just that typical spot on the drivers door and 3rd door.

Re: My new daily project

So far this is what ive come up with. No real engine or drivetrain mods needed, it's got plenty of power for me.

Remove rear window stickers
Respray + handles - no silvy badges
Rear bumper
Grille- painted inserts & bow-tie
2" cowl hood
Restore lights
Door hinges
Tune-up
Headers-similar exhaust, no cats
Air intake
Spray in bed liner
Stereo & rear speakers
1000watt amp and sub box

KEEP HER CLEAN

Are these 12's? They are in perfect shape and I want to use them in my truck. I don't know any good box's, amps or stereos. Nothing fancy, just a DD.

She just got 24" and 1800 watts of brutality! Next weekend the rockers are being blasted and the door skin being welded on.

Re: My new daily project

I polished my wheels and front bumper as well as restoring my headlights. Really made a difference in how the truck looks. I love it more and more everyday. More pics to come.

Saw this sitting in the shop.

Re: My new daily project

I get 17.4 mpg mixed. She's a beast! Rides great, drives great, runs and sounds amazing!

I'm scheduled to have surgery in a could weeks. That's when the body is getting taken care of.

I did one thing. I put a diamond plate polished toolbox in the back. The subs take up all of my under seat space.

Re: My new daily project

Hauled my old S10 bed to the scrap yard. I parked to go collect my money and when I came back the truck wouldn't start. $65 to have it towed 7 blocks, what a rip off!

Also I just had surgery, finally got my tonsils removed. So money is gonna be too tight to do any work to the truck. New fuel pump, just waiting on the wrecker to get here with her.

I love these trucks, Dad's got a 95 4wd ext cab auto 4.3l truck. Been a damn good truck. I've been looking at one lately too. I found a 2500 diesel I want, it's a 2wd, but I want to lift it. It's the same color as this one lol Good luck with the tonsils...I'll be following this build!

Check the plug as well. Buddy lost an 80 pin connecter because it wasn't hooked in all the way, got water in it and corroded like muscle car in the south.

Re: My new daily project

Yeah it starts fine now. I don't get it. I went ahead and threw a new fuel pump relay in there. Bought the pump, not gonna install it yet though.

I love this truck too. When I was 16 my dad got me a 94 long bed 350. I couldn't keep gas in it lol.

Thanks for the get well, recovery has sucked so far.

Re: My new daily project

My Dad's had an issue similar. It had to do with the starter wire to the solenoid, it took all the power in the system, and the truck wouldn't even turn over. I guess it is a common issue in Ford's and GM's of that era. It was his underling at work that found it. I guess it broke from the mounts it's in, melted to the block, and cause the truck not to ground properly, he put in 3 or 4 starters before he had the problem properly diagnosed and fixed. Just a thought.

As for tonsils...still rocking mine! lol and glad

That's awesome dude. I love matte black with the rally's. However low I go, I'm installing the air helper springs so I can still use the truck.

Re: My new daily project

That probably be a good idea. I do not use mine for much really, but I hear weight problem is worse on ext cabs. I was amazed at a 4/6 drop that it still rides nice. No bottoming our or anything. granted frame is notched on rear too.

Re: My new daily project

the flip kit has drop shock mounts for the rear so I used factory shocks. I am still running stock shocks up front, but as anyone would recommend.. buy drop ones. It still rides good(I think), but it can get a little bouncy. so currently no.. I am running stock shocks.

Agreed on the wheels! I like some of the bigger wheels, but really I never go larger then a 18 on anything...although I've never owned a set bigger then a 16...
