My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
I have been looking for a nice one or quite some time. I wanted a truck that needed nothing. My requirements were 4.3, auto, ext cab, stepside, zq8, power everything, and wanted low miles. I finally sold my Tahoe so I wanted an S10 and the money to compete my Jimmy
I found this... 1999 Sonoma ext cab stepside, L35 4.3, auto, 3.43 locking rear, power everything, cd/tape, etc. Tonneau cover and 86,900 miles!! It's awesome!! I had the windows tinted the day I got it. lol ![]()

Re: My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
Mods begin...
Found a used JL Stealthbox for $200 on craiglist. ha! Broughtit to an upholstry shop to get redone to match my interior. $50 Installed my Bilstein front shocks and put my air pressure at 35 all around from 30. MUCH better. I like it! So I googled the part numbers of the junk shocks I removed, Monroe Monro-matics. No surprise, it rode and handled like it had $15 shocks. Sigh |

Re: My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
I went to a salvage yard and found some goodies for the truck. I got a long overhead console from a 1998 Blazer with the whole wiring harness from behind the dash up through the headliner. Its grey and matched my interior. $15. Score!
I thought it was the one with a compass and thermometor, but it turns out to be the one with the fuel economy and miles to empty! Double score! The one on the left is one I have for the Tyclone, the one on the right is for the Sonoma. Sweet! ![]() The 9 pin connector is the nice one, the 6 pin connector is only temp and compass.

Talked him down to $100. SCORE!
Looks like a Goodmark. Brand new and never even painted, a few dings on the front edge, but an easy fix. heh ![]()

More details on the overhead console install? Does it just plug right in or what?

Re: My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
So after thinking about all I have to paint I have a change in plan. I need to paint the tailgate after its shaved, roll pan / step shaver, bedsides go fix the ugly top, left rear door dent, hood refinish plus blend the fenders, blazer composite grille and 95 S10 bumper with SS fogs. Sooo. thats painting the WHOLE truck minus the roof, tonneau and rt doors. I may as well paint it a color I like. After talking about our three blue vehicles we currently have, blue is not a good choice. My wife says gunmetal gray, so thats when I found this color. Cyber Gray Metalic. I think it will look sweet!
![]() So I decided that I like the 96-97 Blazer composite front end. I have always been in love with the Hugger concept trucks. ![]() ![]() So thats the direction I am going now. ![]() I figure that there is no better time than now to paint the truck. So here goes nothing! ![]() ![]() ![]() If anyone is interested, I have a 98-04 Sonoma front end for sale. Hood, headlights, grille, bumper assembly, etc |

Re: My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
I have also changed my mind about the front end. I returned the Blazer composite setup and bought a 98+ S10 front end with Xtreme painted grille and black headlights. And I bought an SS red/black bowtie to top it off. Im excited!!

Looking good, awesome progress! Is the overhead wiring for the fuel economy stuff in the console already in the truck?

Re: My "new" 99 Sonoma ext cab, stepside, ZQ8, 4.3, etc
I still need to install the hitch and step shavers, spray in the bedliner, do the tonneau cover, and either tint the marker lights or buy some clear ones.
Besides that Its lacking something. Maybe a custom Sonoma on the doors but its a Chevy now. hmmmm. We have it painted, shaved tailgate handle, cowl hood, S10 front end swap, SS bowtie, black headlights... Looking alot different than my red sonoma! ![]() ![]() ![]()

tinted clears, bake them and take the lens off so you can lightly tint them from the back side. would look good!

Truck is looking awesome! For the markers, I'd be inclined to suggest that you get some to match the headlights. Clear lenses, but blacked out in behind. Kinda like these:

The truck looks good. I like the step shavers and the cowl hood, the headlights arent my flavor but hey everyone is different haha. I have to ask though, you painted the doorjams but why didnt you paint the inside of the bed? I'm assuming you have a cover to put over it but I woulda painted the inside of the bed.
