Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
I think our best bet is to weld up the tail gate first to reinforce the bedsides. The cut out the entire bed floor and use angle iron to mount it on. Then from there we can figure out what kind of flooring you want. Maybe we can flush mount or counter sink both the fuel cell and battery into a custom floor. As for sheet metal to replace the dented and rusted areas we might be able to use panels off the wrecked bed. What do you think of a retro/old school look to it? Some '32 Ford style LED tail lights, phamtom gill or a chrome one to match the bumper... just a idea. |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
That idea was for bluez's dime. He has a nice clean '92 or '93 with a healthy small block 350 and a T5 tranny. Damn thing will spin the tires at 70mph. However he had it on the car dolly hooked up to his Blazer and not one, but two people hit it within a week. Neither one stopped, so nowthe bed is trashed. Just had the cab corner pulled out and frame straightened... Before he wanted to tub it an dbuild it for the track, now he's seeing all the cool custom crap to do to them and now wants to build a sweet cruiser. Just giving him ideas. ![]() |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
Ok been working alot but here is my update.
I made 4 cuts on each side and pulled out the corners to meet the tails. I then coated it with All Metal, and now I am on the first coat of filler. The drivers side has alot more filler used because it had a huge dent there that I needed to pull out thanks to a Dakota. I work the next few days and nights but then I'll get back on it again. ![]() Getting dark out now so I'll get better photos after I finish sanding. Last edited by TA^Guy : 06-18-2007 at 11:42 PM. |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
Yeah it does. I welded a 1" strip on the inside to make like a flange. It gives it more strength and finishes it off.
I'll try to get some in the day light once I finish sanding it. |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
Ok I had to work on the bottom part of the 'bucket' today and I always forget to take photos until it's just about dark so I'm sorry for the crappy quality. I'll be putting a few hours into it tomorrow so hopefully many more photo will show up soon.

I really am digging the upside down 'rado tails, and esp since they are the LED's! Now you just gotta get a roll pan, and not that horrid stock bumper, haha!

dude i love the bumper ive been wanting to do that to my c10 but i went with a chrome smothy instead so i was going to try with the s10 but wasnt sure if the gate would open right and i have a 4x4 and use my bed alot so my gate gets a lot of uses. great work on the truck keep the kids in on it i helped my dad build my c10 when i was little and ive been hooked on trucks ever since

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
Near finished. The drives side where it was hit just needs some final sanding with a long board but other than that it's looking good.
![]() And here is a shot for those that were worried about how they stuck out at the bottom. Tomorrow I'll try to get some day light photos from the back. ![]() |

for the 1,868,583 time i love the bumber too, i was planning on building a new one completely and chroming it, but you had a great idea there. the tails are cool, i've only seen a few of them, your not one of the billions who have a cali combo and caddies.

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
After I did it I thought I should have made a few cuts and flaired out the metal more, but I think the All Metal is durable enough to shape like that. I have that inline sander however it sucks up alot of air and my tiny compressor can't keep up. What I could use, if you aren't using it, is your contour gauge. Thanks for the complements, watching what others have done in this section over the past year helped inspire me to ditch my Euro tails and grab the saw. Everyones comments keep pushing me on to do more... now I just need the cash. ![]() Thats ok I don't reall yhave the extra cash anyhow, just had to put $300 in tires on my bike and it still needs about $300 of other general maintenmance crap. |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
Then I was originally going to use Cadillac SRX headlights and grill but since I'm not using DTS tails like I wanted it only made sense to stay Chevrolet with it, especially after seeing the '07 Tahoe headlights. So plans are for factory '07 Tahoe headlights and sectioned grill. ![]() After the body is close to done I want a set of black 20' wheels (not positive on style but have a good idea) and then a nice four link out back and hide all air management stuff under the bed floor. Won't be finished anytime soon but I'm still working on it. |

Re: My 'day off' daily driven project.
No progress lately, was busy with a weekend car show I hosted and have to travel to judged another one next weekend and work four 13 hour days in a row this week.
But after that I'm getting back to the grind Oh yeah some custom paint! http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l1...7/DSCN3754.jpg Some people from the show we hosted had fun with that washable spray paint and then I let my friend go cruise with it. When I left the hotel the thought I'd go for the first carwash a few blocks away but instead I drove it home and parked it in my driveway. lol Anyhow, Here is a photo of it's current condition to hold you guys and gals over until the next mods come. ![]() |
