Re: Mostizzles dime

Phil(DeathPhoenix) may have another one of those clusters. I never got around to doing the HVAC lights. If they're anything like the cluster lights I had to get different sockets to change the lights because the 94-97 have the soldered type sockets. I'm sure you can take them apart and solder in the LEDs if that's the case but you might want to look for some sockets from a newer S10 or maybe 3rd gen F body. That's just a guess though. I'd ask some guys that have done it in the 98+ 2nd gens.

Re: Mostizzles dime

My 2000 had the "soldered" bulbs in the gauges. I just grabbed the sockets from an old corolla and used those for my LEDs.

Re: Mostizzles dime

The credentials for the cluster i need are rather hard to match. I inquired about the one he had once, but its for a 5 speed truck and its MPH. But i suppose if i know my trans well enough i can put it in gear without an indicator. And adjusting to MPH and miles instead of kilometer wouldn't be too hard. Idk! and So essentially i could maybe just create a harness using #74 sockets so i can plug in the bulbs and swap them easier. More importantly im not even sure is my wiring is still good. Coincidentally all 3 bulbs are either burnt out, or something else is wrong because they haven't lit up in many years.

Edit.. I just had a crazy tach cluster theory. I saw a pic of a 97 blazer cluster without the clear lens. And it almost looked just like a '94 (the cut out for the steering coloumn was just a half circle) Now do you think it would be possible to take the lens from my '94 cluster, and attach it to another cluster (if i find one in a junkyard here, so its canadian) so the lens lines up with my round column rather then the larger opening for the airbag column? Hopefully i dont sound like a jack off and you understand my theory.

Re: Mostizzles dime

Get you a test light and go to work. The clusters do look very similar aside from the lens and bezel. I can't say for sure whether or not the 95-97 will swap. Might be worth looking into.

Re: Mostizzles dime

It was painted black intentionally. lol Just the tailgate lock got wrapped due to me getting tired of the crappy metal starting to rust and popping the paint over and over.

Re: Mostizzles dime

It has emerged from the winter slime...

Working on getting some wheels for it. I may drive it a little bit this year but it's getting parked soon and hopefully getting a bunch of shit squared away on it. And a V8......I hope.

Re: Mostizzles dime

Joe was such a great guy, in 1997 at the 100 year aniversary of old my dad won a set of heads from him for a 455. All we had at the time was a couple g bodies with 307's so my dad and i set out to find a car to use the heads on. We found a 1972 olds 442 in texas in 1998 or 99ish. Every option besides the w-30 option. It took us 4 years and so much more to finish the car but we finished it in 2003. Went to a lot of shows around here and won Olds Nationals in 2004 or 2005 with it. We sound it in 2006 to a mueseum in las vegas and havent looked. Heres a link to it, the car was never rotisserie restored though just a frame off.

Re: Mostizzles dime

It's cool. I've had 69 and 70 Cutlass S'. The 69 was a 350/350 bucket/console car and the 70 was a 455/400 bench car.

Potato pic of the 70...

No pics of the 69 unfortunately. Back then I could give a shit about having pictures of anything. At the time I had those cars and a friend has a 71 Skylark 350/350 and they were all super fun cars. That's how I got hooked on the BOP stuff. That being said, I've always been a huge fan of Dr.Olds and I was real sad to hear of his passing. I'm glad his company is still alive and well though. As much as I'd love to put a 455 or even a Olds 350 for that matter, I think it'd be a little too much work considering the amount a real estate those motors take up.

Anyways, cool pic I took the other day...

Modello's is about 10 min from my house. They did all the machine work on the motor in my camaro. Was a great guy. They still do work but not familiar with any of the guys. After Joe passed, his wife fired off a bunch of the guys and started fresh. I think they are on their second round of new guys now lol.
