Re: Laying On Billet 22s
Sorry nfamus10 I havent checked on my thread in a while, but thank you for the good words. Yes it is a pain to get the tubs to come out good. I took longer than most would, but i think the extra time was worth it.
Im still gathering up parts for this. I just got back from Newmarket and Toronto Canada yesterday. Im going to be engineering a new line at work and our customer MAGNA is in Newmarket. So we went a visted them a few days. I picked up an envoy bumper, and ordered a raceline matching steering wheel for my wheels. I shaved my hood squirters and im about to start on the mud work on my firewall. As of right now im just going to paint my hood and firewall, but this winter im going to paint my truck. I want to go with a two tone. Cream on the bottom and im not sure what i want on the top. I want to go with neutral colors so it will not be anything flashy up top. Keep an eye out for updates. Also i have got to give a shout out to my friend Ben Osborne at Buddies Garage. If it wasnt for him most of this truck would not be were it is today. He is a great guy and has really help me out with some killer deals on parts. |

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
From the looks of things they had it going on. They have a lot of new work coming in there. I wasnt really impressed by there welding, or how they are wanting to make us change our tooling that they agreed on and signed a P.O. to start being built, but it is what it is.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
So here lately Ive sorta wanted to shave a few things on my truck. So far Ive shaved the hood squirters, third brake light, and antenna. I want to shave my doors, and if i do im going to go with the avs prewired kit. When i order the kit is there anything that you would recommend getting with the kit. Of course i know filler plates, but im talking about acessories that would make the kit better. I like the idea of having a hidden button on my truck that you can hide that could pop the doors open. Can i do this with this kit?

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
Truck looks ill with the 22's! Just a warning, my truck had serious issues with the 22's on the highway (i4 5 speed)... just couldn't stay up to speed on the hills. I suggest re-gearing the rear end if you run into this.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
I got a question. If i weld the hole up on the cowl that lets water go into the drains behind the firewall would that cause any problems? The truck will not be a daily, and will only be out in the rain when an unexpected storm comes up. Id rather not have to worry about water getting in my cab, and this would be easier than rebuilding the drains.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
You can weld up the entire cowl area. The only issue that will cause in water possibly going into the engine bay but if its not a daily driver then it shouldn't be a big deal. I personally think its easier to just build the drains.

That's what I did on my truck. So basically the upper wiper cowl becomes the water drainage.
Make sure that you seam seal it good too! |

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
While i was at the parts store the other day picking up some filler, I bought the BONDO dent puller. Its the one where you screw in a bolt and pull the dent out with the bolt. What a piece of crap. 15 bucks threw down the drain. Im gonna machine a piece that will be tacked to the panel, and i will still be able to use the puller, just no screws.

I got some goodies in the mail today. I saw this Clausen All U Need poly primer sealer on Trucks last weekend. Ive researched it ever since. Everyone that has used it really liked it. I have not read one bad review from anyone that has used it. My AVS shaved door kit came in also.

Nothing to update. I went to showfest this weekend to get some motivation for my project. It sorta didnt do it for me. I realized my truck wont be anything to half the trucks there. Im building the truck for me, it might not make everyone else happy, but in the end i think i will love it.

I need some help. Paint the truck solid red, solid black, factory blue, or sale it? I was made a great offer this past weekend on the truck that is very very tempting.

Solid red.
Depending on the offer....consider what you'd build/do next and what it would take. |

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
You read my mind on the color. The only reason i really need to sale it is i got promoted to head welding engineer at work. With that promotion i will be doing quiet a bit of traveling. Im going to need a nicer vehicle to travel in. My wife has a 05 envoy in great condition, and i have my project and my little for escort zx2 gas saver work car. The car is a 5 speed and my wife cant drive a 5 speed. Im fine with my junky car, but it really dont make a good impression when i have to take potential customers at work to dinner, meetings, etc, and when im having to drive on the interstate at 70 mph in tacking 3500 rpms. The rpms sorta make me nervous.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
Hah, well what works for some doesn't work for others. That piece of advise was based on my situation. My beater is a truck so solves that problem, wife got a new diesel x5, I got rid of my lifted 01 chevy gas guzzler on 37s, kept her old trailblazer, around 130k, great shape. I would def keep the envoy cause resale sucks and they will go forever if kept up. Good luck whatever you decide and congrats on moving up at work. Truck looks awesome.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
Im a pretty lucky guy i guess. My wife hates bills. Her envoy is almost paid off, and she pays for it and loves it. I told her when she bought the envoy as long as she had enough money to pay for car payment i would cover the rest of the bills. When she gets it paid off, she is going to pay the electric and water bill, and ill cover the rest of them.
Im pretty sure im going to paint the truck. It would be a lot cheaper than buying a newer silverado, and I could always buy me a set of 338s to put on it if i ever have to drive a long distance to keep from messing the billets up. |

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
Just wondering what do yall think my truck would be worth after painted. Its 2.2 auto 151000 miles. Completely finished. If it wont bring atleast $6000 - $7000 Im just going to sale it unpainted, because i want to drive the truck this summer and maybe sale it the first of the year.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
I was offered 4000 for it the way it sits right now. I sorta think it would be crazy not to take the cash and run, but i really want to drive it once before i sell it. Im sorta just stuck in between a rock and a hard place. I want to finish it, because it would be the nicest truck ive built to date, but im also sorta scared not to take that much cash while its on the table.

Re: Laying On Billet 22s
I'd say you'd be lucky to get $4000 with it being together. I also think if you plan to sell it in the future there's no sense to paint it. Most people want a project that's already got the suspension done, and just have to change a few things to make it their own like painting it. $4000 for the way it sits now, I'd take that and run. If it were bodied I could see it bringing somewhere in the $5000 range unpainted and driving.

I got a wild hair and put my truck halfway together. Here are some pics of some parts ive been collecting. Ben (BuddiesGarage) and Travis (Lowobsessions) helped me find my newer front end. Also i traded out my Goodmark gen2 cowl hood for a sonoma hood. Billet steering wheel still hasnt came in yet.
