Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
This is why I love mini truckin. It's not just about sweet rides being built, or going to shows or meets, or partying with friends till the sun comes up. It's about being one big family, and being there for others in their time of need. Pulling together for a cause like this is freakin awesome! My hats of to Seth and everyone who's contributed in some way or another. Proverbs 19:17

With the link mounted to the passenger side it won't twist. It actually helps cancel out drive line torque. Mounted on the driver side would cause problems though. He is a little info http://home.earthlink.net/~whshope/id5.html

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
Here is the weeks update. I got the manifold cross member welded in place, and hung some compressor mounts off of it. Then I welded in the air tank brackets now that I was sure it wouldn't interfere with the compressors. I then pulled the axle out to finish all of the welding.
![]() ![]() ![]() I started painting the frame yesterday, but Tyler is wet sanding his car in preparation for painting it next week. Dust got stuck in the paint as it was drying, so I am going to wait until he is finished with that and then sand it down and repaint the frame. The axle is also primed and ready for some semigloss on Monday. And I need to start prepping the tank for some undercoating maybe. The link bars are at a friends house getting painted silver tomorrow, so they should be ready Monday too. I can also see now in the pictures I need to figure out a way to get paint further into the notches. ![]() ![]() |

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
Doing the finish work on the back half. Almost everything is painted. Spent a lot of time on the gas tank, it had to be sanded bare after stripping the grime off of it. The paint just kept flaking so I was forced to take it to bare metal, or it would just happen again in the future. Had to repair 5 holes in the air tank I found when doing a pressure test. There is a lot of dust in the shop because we are cutting and buffing a new paint job as well. I should be taking the driveline in to be shortened tomorrow, and aside from wiring/plumbing the back half will be complete.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
some stainless braided line would look nice to connect the tank to manifold, seem like the seal would leak after some time of that twisted angle no?

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
I don't know if stainless braided line would work. Seems like it would be stiffer than plastic line, and there isn't much room to work with there. That is one area that is bothering me though. I would like to try to find a fitting that goes from 3/4" NPT to 3/8" or 1/2" tube, and I would also like to try to find a 45 degree fitting for the frame side. I think that would work much better.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up
I built the exhaust system for Johns truck today. Stock was 2" to the cat and then 2.25" after that. I decided to step the whole thing up to 2.50" tube with all mandrel bends, a high flow Magnaflow cat, and a Dynomax Thrush welded muffler, which is similar to a Flowmaster design. It is all TIG welded aside from the hangers and where it meets the 2" - 2.50" reducer right at the manifold. At no point does any of it hang below the frame. The closest part is when it crosses over, where it has about 1/4" of room above and below the tube.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is a picture of the back aired out. This is as low as it goes with the bed bolted on and the wheel wells uncut. There is still about 1/2" 1" between the axle and the bump stops, so I need to cut the fenderwells up about 2 inches. so they clear in any circumstance. The last picture is if a box I made to hold the air gauges and switches for the pressure switch and manually bypassing the lights. I figure since the gauges point right up at you, lights might be annoying at times. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It needs a really good wash now. There was a lot of crap under the bed liner that got on everything. |
