That's what I was thinking. I guess I can't stray too far from the norm.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

It could use a bumper or a roll pan, or even some 3/8" air line.

It could really use some new shocks. Stock replacement for the back, whatever for the front. I haven't built the front mounts yet.

That's probably it. I can't really tell the size, but I would guess the opening in the dash is about ~3" tall or so. If you want to send it that would be great. Shop address is:

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

i can hook it up with some shocks. i bought some nissan d21 shocks for the front of mine, but haven't put them on since i'm waiting til i relocated everything up front. they are the type with the bushing on the bottom and stud on top, pretty much everyone uses them i guess

and my buddy is gonna drop his blaze soon so if you can use stock shocks from the back of that, i'm sure he wouldn't mind sending those out too

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

Ya we could use the front shocks. I have stock shocks for the back, I was just looking for a new or lightly used set of them is all.

Spent most of today doing exhaust work on an Audi S4. But I got the 3-link tacked up. I'm not going to fully weld it until I get the panhard bar tacked on and cycle the suspension.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

I actually had to change some things related to the shock mount out back, so it now needs a shock around 12" collapsed. I'm going to try to talk him into Bilstein, but not sure if it's in his budget.

Got the Panhard bar built and cycled the suspension. The closes the bolt on the upper link gets to the bag is about 1/2" when it's fully compressed. It's a little close for me, so I am going to swap the bushing out for a rod end with misalignments, and I will be able to move the bar over about an inch.

In the second picture you can see the bar is installed level at ride height. It may look unlevel, but it is because the panhard bar is angled back, and is further away from the axle on the DS. But I measured many times to make sure. It's also installed to put the roll center height right around the bottom of the pumpkin. A little bit lower than stock.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

I swapped out the bushing on the upper link for a 3/4" rod end, and it solved my clearance issues. The bag now has plenty of room to do it's thing. I am now satisfied with the link setup, so I welded most of it up. I need to pull the axle to finish the rest.

It could use some new shocks for the back. Some dual eye shocks, around 12-13 inches compressed. That is probably the biggest thing right now. Or just some money to go towards getting the drive shaft shortened.

The truck is registered, just not insured. So they can't get proof of registration before having it insured. I'm hoping they work it out before it's done, because I would like to test drive it, legally. Lol!

Someone actually already donated a pretty nice head unit for him. Thanks though.

Today I built what will be both a crossmember, and an air manifold. It's sitting on top of the frame, which is not where it will end up. I need to pressure test it before I weld it to the frame. The goal is to keep the tank, compressors and valves all under the stock bed floor. I am using a "manifold" to mount the valves because the tank only has 4 ports.

The panhard bar doesn't need to be parallel with the rear axle, a slight angle is acceptable. Too much of an angle is bad though because it can cause the material to flex. It is more important for it to be long (this one is 3 feet) and to be installed level at ride height.

Rear steer isn't effected by a panhard bar as much as the actual links. Rear steer is caused when one side of the axle is pulled forward or pushed backwards during body roll. The panhard bar only controls your lateral movement, and has no adverse effects on the front to back movement of your axle. That is all in the forward links.

Re: John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

I got the bag mounts and shock mounts finalized today. The manifold cross member is welded in. I just need to make some brake line brackets, and compressor mounts and the back half is ready to be torn apart for some finish work and paint.

i'd say it's more because of the panhard bar mount

I think I saw that one.

Quote: Originally Posted by GET_LOW

Not at all. Only having one upper bar won't allow it to twist. If the truck had more power, it might be able to make the axle twist a little bit, but it's unlikely even then.

I basically wanted to do something different. It's similar to the stock shock setup on some fulllsize Chevy's. But basically, like said above, it's because of the panhard bar. The side where the panhard mounts to the axle leaves almost no room for a shock. So I built one bracket to mount the panhard, and put the shock on the opposite side. On the DS of the truck, there is a gas tank, which doesn't leave me room to put the shock there. So I decided to put it on the backside, which is also why the panhard bar mount is pushed back away from the axle a bit on that side. I had this all planned out in my head before I started, and I am pleased to say that it is exactly the way I saw it in my head.
