John's 87 S10 - Epilepsy build up

For those of you who have not been following this, John recently bought an 87 S10. He is a kid with Epilepsy and Tourettes that has been hanging around the club for a while, and he decided he wanted his own bagged truck. So we are making ti happen for him. Many people have donated parts for this truck, I would guess over $2k worth of parts. We received stereo equipment, air ride equipment, exterior and interior parts, almost everything needed to get this truck done. It's been several months now, and I finally have the truck in the shop. I am donating materials and hardware, and a lot of time.

This is the truck he brought home a few months ago.

And a rendering that Brian @ KEG did.

So I started tear down a few days ago. It came in like this.

And today the notches are finished.

I'd forgotten how much of a PITA 8-pieces notches where.

Thanks again for donating all of those. I will let you know if I need more. I am thinking about building an air manifold for it since the tank has 3-4 ports.

It's not bad for what he paid. He could really use a new bed though, as his is tweaked pretty good. Not really savable as far as I know. I'd like to see him get a new bumper for the front too, since his is cracked. He likes the bumper out back but it's a generic one thats a little beat up. I think it could be cool to put a Blazer bumper on it, something that looks more stock. But he pretty much maxed out his budget buying the last few things that he needed for the air ride.

I cant stand using 8 piece notches on c-channel frame. Pain in the dick to do alone, thats for sure.

Ya I did a 3-piece on the last S10 I did, and I think it took about 3 hours. I spent well over 10 hours on this one. Also I really hate grinding those rivets...

I'll let you know if I need anything else. I have a tricky panhard/shock mount dreamed up so maybe.

They are ATEVs or something. They where popular on early 90s BMWs. Hard to find apparently.

You have to go a certain amount of time without a seizure to get a license. And any relapse is an immediate suspension until you go another 3 years seizure free. At least that is they way I understand what his mom described. So it sounds like it's legal if you're clear. And he hasn't had a seizure in I think 6-7 years. But he had them bad when he was young, and it left him a little slower than average.

We just bought the remainder of the parts needed for air ride, aside from limit straps which a recent donation will cover most of. That's why its in the shop finally, he saved up enough to buy the rest. But it still needs a stock rear bumper, and an install kit for a head unit.

Started on the upper bag mounts today. I haven't decided if I want to dimple the plate or not. The holes are spaced out with it in mind, but I'm not sure which way I want to go yet.

hey you said he needs an install kit for the cd player? i SHOULD have all that crap from when i bought my cd player from crutchfield, or atleast the plastic install parts, i might have a harness too, ill have to dig around. Im nearly positive i didnt toss it. Its for the later model first gen dash

Ya it needs the dash piece. Nothing is there. I can take a picture of what's missing. I will probably wire the head unit from scratch, as I believe the previous stereo wiring, that is half there still, is creating a draw. I can't remember if I have an extra plug for it or not, but I won't need an adapter or anything.

awesome seth. absolutely awesome. i think it's great what you and every one else are doing and donating to help someone else out. there's not a lot of good people left in society but things like this bring light at the end of the tunnel. cant wait to watch the progress.
