Going up?
Little rough, but my new project and future daily.
1993 s10 2.6,5 speed manual transmission Plans are to clean it up right now and do some tune-up stuff, and solve a small over-heating issue. After that i intend to put a mild lift on,and some 30's. Nothing too crazy,as i want a fairly simple truck.

Hey hey, you dropped one, might as well lift another. At least lifting one will be a lot easier haha.

Re: Going up?
Soon as funds allow. I'm going to be hitting up parts stores first,to fix the overheating and for plugs/wires cause it's hard to idle when you first crank. I also have to fix some rigged battery wiring. Once it runs good,i plan to look around for tires.

The tires i'm currently looking at: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....&autoModel=S10 2wd&autoModClar=
Going to try and find some used tires local though for cheap. I want something that's good on the road, but can handle light offroad. I don't plan to bury the truck in mud anytime soon,so huge mud bogger would be pointless.. |

Kiko,You know I work at a shop that sells tired right? I get some good used tires and discount on tires both from work and ATD! I got several used 15" tires at the house too, that can hold ya till you get those. I also have access to an alignment rack with the newest hunter machine.

Re: Going up?
thats a 'lift' aid, basically the WRONG way to get some lift from sagging springs, they ultimately bend the spring, which looks to have happened, so plan on some new springs for that while you are at it. I have a set of springs in my basement you can have for the cost of shipping if you want, they were from my old truck, they are z85s (heavy duty) and were removed at around 88kmi

Re: Going up?
the shackles are a bit shady too, you can pick em up at any parts store, but theyre just two flat plates with nothing holding the two together in shear, which may cause unwanted side to side movement, abnormal bushing wear, etc, id swap them out for a stock set or aftermarket lift shackles

Re: Going up?
lol ya man someone already lifted that thing. those are spring spreaders to lift the front like someone else already mentioned. The shackles are advanced auto parts special, $15 jobbers. They are really weak, because they don't have a cross brace. You might look into getting a better set.
EDIT: Driveway Kustoms hit the nail on the head already, guess I shoulda read the whole thread before I posted |

Re: Going up?
I don't really know the 2.8's but I know the 4.3's have a heater hose with a quick connect fitting right on the back of the manifold, just a thought.
Those are some sketchy ass lifts man, get lift shackles, add a leaf, and get lift coils. done. Love the steelies you posted in the first post, are they 15x8? should look great if they're an aggressive offset! Need anything let me know, lots of shit left over from the various trucks... |

Re: Going up?
doesnt appear to be the heater hose. It looks like it's coming from the back of the engine, where it bolts to the transmission. I did research an apparently there's a freeze plug back there that will corrode and leak. To get to it,you have to pull the transmission, flywheel, clutch, etc.
Going to pay a mechanic i know to look at it. I atleast fixed the alternator to starter wire today. They had one on that just BARELY was long enough. Gonna do the whole big 3 upgrade sometime later this year. |

Re: Going up?
Also in my opinion you should trade out that back bumper for a different one...if you can find one of the chrome ones with the diamond plate looking top instead of the rubber pad, those are the best looking to me.

Re: Going up?
I thought about that, my bagged truck has the plastic on top,but no plastic strips on the backside. I like that, but on this truck i'm not terribly picky. I kinda like the bumper that's on it now,but i thought about painting it black.
Once i fix the coolant leak,i'm going to try and pick up a set of 15" steel rims from the u-pull it,along with a set of black flares like i put on my '91. I'm anxious to get started, but not doing anything until it's actually driveable. |

Re: Going up?
Pulled the slave cylinder, driveshaft, muffler, and drained the transmission. I need to unbolt the y-pipe,remove the crossmember, then unbolt the transmission & clutch/flywheel. I'm headed now to pick up 2 new freeze plugs. Should solve my problem with leaking coolant.
How it's gonna sit for the next couple weeks

Re: Going up?
I finally figured out a way to get enough room to reach the top two transmission bolts and..... It's out. I got stopped by the flywheel though. It wanted to spin the crankshaft and i had no-one to help keep it still while i loosened the bolts. I'll most likely do that tommorow afternoon before heading home.
![]() Hopefully once these freezeplugs are in,it will stop leaking and overheating. I'm ready to drive this mofo |

Why not just use an impact to remove, and re install the fly wheel?

glad you found the source of the leak, definitely better to catch that now than later when it blows out and soaks your clutch or something. doesn't look too bad to replace

Got the old freezeplugs out. The leaking one actually had a nice sized hole through it. Gotta wire brush the inside of the holes, then get the 3rd plug + some sealant and press them in tommorow. Should be ready for the road shortly.

Decent for the mileage. It wont idle when first cranked, but press the gas pedal for a few seconds and it'll stay running. I am going to change fuel filter and check the driver-side spark plugs (checked the passenger ones before)

Re: Going up?
I gotta teach you a lesson on haggling, lol. I recently bought a '00 Sonoma off Craigslist.the PO was asking $2,200 for it.he claimed it was in excellent condition both body and interior, just needed engine work according to his mechanic.he said it booked out at $4,800.worse case scenario it would need an engine and would cost $2,500.So,he deducted that and, came up with his asking price.I brought my '01 to come look at it,explained to him that my truck is only in good condition(actually its almost showroom, lol)making his truck poor condition.picked the truck apart for every flaw and, offered him $800.we ended up agreeing to $1,200.I drove it home dead missing/putting/check engine light flashing and with in 20min had it purring for $35 in parts, lol.
I still say if we traded trucks for a week you'd convert to second gen I was exactly like you 7 years ago.I drove a '92 4door 4x4 blazer LT. I aquired it's twin only in second gen in hopes to fix it up and resell it.color and everything.after I got it running I started driving it to work out the bugs.My '92 sat for what was supposed to be a week or two turned into 6months and I ended up selling my '92 instead I owned that truck for 5years and turned to second gens after 5 days of driving one.I owned a square body since I was 15.probably owned a dozen over a 10 year period.Always thought the squares where classic and easier to work on.they are classic but,the second gens are actually easier to work on,lol.and 10x nicer.
