I had to stop doing what I was doing when I first saw it. I laughed pretty hard. Caught my breath, then went to get the camera. I can't wait to get it all down to bare metal so I can start the long process of straightening it.

The last owner who rebuilt the motor and fixed some of the airlines and replaced a valve put the cheeta print stuff in it. And put quite a few stickers on it. I don't care for that kind of stuff, so I took it all out. The dash will be all metal and painted to match the outside of the truck.

I'm working on it a little today. I should be able to get the dash stripped of the old factory paint. And I'm going to go over the whole thiong with a wire brush to see just how lumpy the metal is. It is hard to tell right now with all of the swirls in it. I'm working on it Tuesday and Wednesday too so I'll be posting a few pics this week.

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Heres a pic of the parts truck I may get...

Cut the fender support on the driver side to see how much room I will have for larger wheels, and so it will actually lay another inch or so in the front after I cut a little off of the trans. crossmember...

This is a pic of it an inch from laying the front of the cab. I should have room for a narrow zero offset 18 with a 35-40 series tire...

I got a better pic of the "taillight filler". It still does what you see in person no justice...

Side marker light on the front fender was taped from the backside with aluminum ducting tape and filler was spread over the front side...

Dash is down to the metal all most all the way. Minus a few corners, it went down nice and smooth with a wire wheel on a grinder...

I cut the leaf hangers off the drivers side frame because they were keeping the truck from teetering on the transmission crossmember. The rear of the cab on the drivers side lays now. I'll cut the passenger side when I move it to the other side of hte garage and start on the passenger side...

I have been watching since you first posted. Love what you are doing! Had quite a few duct tape and expanding foam trucks over the years. It is amazing what some people will cover with bondo. My favorites so far have been chicken wire and newspaper so far.

Keep it up....we are watching.....

I plan on using that one and keeping this nasty one as a spare. I'm going to leave the taillights in it and shave everything and weld the gate shut. On the other one I'm going to make new taillight fillers and patch in all of the rusted spots and take forever to get it straight. I may keep the LED's but I might move them to where the stock taillights were and mount them vertically. I'm going to have fun getting them out though.

They are glassed from the inside, I have no idea what is going on on the outside. I have not worked on getting them out much at all. I'll post pics when I get around to that part of the heap.

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

I thought about not using the shocks on the doors, but this was something that was done pretty good, so I'm going to leave it but clean it up a little. The pic also shows how much of the filler was not welded to the floor...

Pulled up a patch that was riveted to the floor and found two pretty big holes. The brake pedal was cut, the two pieces were stuck next to each other and welded, instead of sectioning it...

Started on the cab floor and back wall, I got alot of the drivers side done. There was alot of surface rust, but it all came up with a little work. There is alot of rust from where the front of the seat was forward. I'm going to make a new floorboard to go over the existing one or cut it out and replace it with a new one...

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Got a little bit done today...
Pulled up the panel that had about 20 pop rivits holding it down, more of the tape, and some nasty white caulking that was used on alot of the seams. Underneath some of the metal was decent and came out decent with a wire wheel. A big portion of it was rusted and there are alot of big rust holes...

You have to look at this pic for a little bit to take it all in. The floor is not welded in at all because it was rusted away and there was nothing to weld to. I'll be cutting alot more out of the passenger side than the driver side to replace with good metal...

Got a little more done on the back wall...

The back half of the floor is a little more than halfway done. I still need to go over most of it to get the small surface rust off...

The dash is down and ready to have the top filled and grinded minus the fillers being cut out and grinded down on the front where the glovebox and two small patches on each side are...

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Took a couple more pics of the truck I may get for parts...

I know it is in really good condition and woule be a much better idea to just work on this one, but I want to be stupid and redo the nasty one. Hopefully the owner will call me or I will catch him outside sometime really soon so I know what is going on with it. I'm trying not to work on some stuff that will be replaced if I get this truck.

stepsides are pretty rare, you might look into it to resell for profit.

Yup. I'm not a fan of the stepsides though.
But people who are will pay decent money for one in good shape.

Yeah but when you do talk to him don't tell him you're going to hack the orange one up either. Sometimes people just wan't sell them if they find out you're going to do that.

I tried to catch him this weekend. I drove by a dozen times. The only person I saw outside was the guy doing the yard.
I'm going to leave a note on the truck next, then try to leave one on the door again. I had to buy a couple things for the Blazer today, so that set me back a little on the LUV.
