Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

I bought this from a friend that bought it from a guy who bought it from the guy that built it.
I'm in the process of tearing it down to redo everything. I got it last weekend on Saturday February 12th.
Here is what it looked like just before I got it. Nothing at all changed besides the motor and trans being pulled...

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Heres the console. The sides were cardboard covered in tweed, the top was thin pieces of aluminum...

Heres the back of the cab wall. It was cut and dropped down, not welded at all, it has a few screws and pop rivets holding it in place and the same aluminum ducting tape as the floor holding it in place...

Heres the interior fully gutted. I can't wait to grind on it and get ot ready to patch in the spots with rust holes...

Another shot of the interior fully stripped...

Heres a shot of the shock where it was rubbing on the bag...

And where the upper ball joint nut was rubbing on the bag...

Shot from the front of the interior stripped.

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Heres the transmission tunnel. It was pieces of thin aluminum pop- rivited in...

I started working on the wiring. I pulled all of the stereo wiring, and got alot of the rest sorted out. Heres a pic of the "fuse box" Notice the bolts in place of fuses???

I got all of the 1/4" thick body filler off and down to the metal on the drivers side and around the stereo surround. I cut my fingers and they started bleeding so I didn't take a pic of the dash where I stopped...

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

I got the roof down to the metal minus a few spots. I used paint remover because it had two layers of black, a primer, maroon, blue, the origional white and a primer under that. I started working on the drivers side to see how ther rear was done. I decided to get most of the truck down to the metal to know exactly what I am dealing with so there are no surprises at all. I'm going to get all of the dash down to bare metal and weld up the holes in the top of it, smooth them out and go with straight paint on the dash with no dash pad. I like the shape of it and after scraping the body filler off the roof I found a hidden body line that matches the dash. I plan on grinding the floor down to bare metal to find exactly how much of it is rusted. There is alot of filler on the floor covering rust holes. I'm most likely going to patch in the front half of the cab flooer because most of it is trashed fron rust. The body is in pretty bad shape underneath the filler that ranges from 1/16"- 1/2" thick in some places. The drivers side gas door and taillight fillers need to be redone because they have no strenth to them and were not welded to the outside of the bed so there was about 3" of filler and dynaglass built up to make the shape on the back corner. and about 1/2" filling in the gas door. I have not got to the door yet,b ut I'm sure it is tacked in only a few places like the gas and taillight fillers. The body was pretty straight on the outside and the body work was done pretty good but the seams on the rear were starting to crack so I decided to see exactly what was done. I should have the roof done and laot of the drivers side of the bed and some of the rear of the bed done tomorrow to get ready to be welded up. I'm going to get the floor ready as well so alot of the welding can be done at one time. I'll post progress pics in the next couple days after I have something I want to show. Posting pics of big dips and poor patch jobs in the body is not something everyone wants to see.

I'm tearing it down to redo pretty much everything minus some of the work that was done to body drop it. I'm leaving the rear etup like it is munus the upper link bars until last because it is halfway decent and I want to drive/ show it as soon as possible. I will be going back with a stock motor, redoing all of the interior, taking the entire body down to the metal and straightening it, redoing everything that was shaved. Putting an entire new front end on it from another truck when I do the motor. Redoing the bedfloor.

It has a couple spots where it was being rubbed pretty hard. It was not driven at all in the past year or so. I have no idea how much it was driven after being built. I only know of one show it was at and have no idea if it was driven there.

I'm ridding it of all of the Ghetto. There is no way I'm driving it without going over everything on the truck down to the bare metal. I'll be posting alot of progress pics of it.

The dash...

Here is how thick the filler was where the glove box was removed...

Never did post a pic of the hacked up Radiatior support...

Rear setup before...

Fuel cell removed and bed floor showing once again. I traded the 3 gallon shown here for a 6 gallon today...

All of the cheeta and tweed was removed. I hate tweed so there will be none of it going back in. I am goign to weld in the holes in the top or the dash and smooth it out. and paint it to match the exterior along with the back of the cab wall and the door panels. I'll post progress pics when I get stuff done. Which should be nearly every day for a little while until it is all down to bare metal and welded up.

There are switches on the inside that were on the console and there is a remote to open them from the outside.

I'm going back with a factory motor for right now. I want to drive it and not have to spend alot for gas. I want it to be reliable somewhat so I do not have to trailer it to shows.

I traded my ext cab 96 S10 that had the motor and trans out and nothing at all in the engine bay for it. I got my moneys worth out of the S10 because I bought it really cheap and took everything off of it that I put on it minus the rollpan. I have alot of serious free time don't worry about that. I have a Blazer so I'm still an s-series owner. And I plan on keeping it for a while.

Re: Bodydropped 78 Chevy LUV...

Time for pics of todays progress...
In the middle of removing the thick filler on the drivers side of the bed. And the door handle down to the metal...

Front view of the same thing as above...

The bedside most of the way down to the metal. Minus a few extremely low spots where it looks like someone took a ball pin hammer to it...

bedside done pretty much and showing the taillight fillers that are 4-5 pieces of thin strips welded together instead of making real fillers...

Roof down to bare metal...

Showing the Radiator support where it was chopped up...

Showing how thick the filler was on the back corner...

This is how thick it was...

you know if you work out most of the large "shit" spots you can float a thin layer of duragalss over the deep spots...I just did that when i fixed my tailgate...that shit is stronger than metal and its water proof, so its ok if you have to fill over holes...just my .02 you have some work ahead of ya

I plan on getting all of the extremely low spots out. I do not want to do more than a thin glaze over it so when I paint it the next time I can take it back down to bare metal. I'd feel alot better knowing that I'm not going to get cracks in my paint. The dynaglass is a good idea. I planned on using it over all of the areas I'm shaving anyway. I do not trust body filler.
