97 xcab

I figured I'd go ahead and start the build thread and show all my parts I've got so far. I scored the truck from my friends sister-in-law. Its bone stock so don't have to worry about someone else's hack job...So far I've got 2 firestone 2500 bags, suicide door cups, 50ft of 1/2 air line, 2 3/8 electric valves and 2 1/2 silver star customs valves, 2" belltech spindles, 5 gallon tank, 480c compressor, just ordered my 3 rocker rockstar switchbox, 8 piece step notch, black head lights, hid kit, 18" camaro wheels and scored a nice ram air hood for $40 hopefully get to go over tomorrow and start the build on it...All I need for the back is 4 link tabs and bag brackets
$40 hood lol

Re: 97 xcab

so went over today and got a little bit done...Being I can't bend my leg I only got to do my head lights and sorta be a tool bitch from my wheelchair...I got my busted grill off ripped the headlights out had my friend bring me a new black grill and put in my HID kit and black projectors... The club president who has helped me alot and became a close friend actually tore into the front by his self...He got the front tore apart and started mocking everything up...Found out the 2500s I have fit in with very minimal trimming...We started running out of day light but will continue next weekend...here are a few pics...

HIDS

We got the mock up done...next weekend we will have what little bit that needs trimmed finished, new bag bolts, fittings, and hopefully plumbed..I just had to order new upper control arm bushing since the passenger side has play in it.. while my friend was doing it it just hit me that shit got real and its actually happening so im excited...next weekend ill have my digi cam so ill get better and more pics...

Re: 97 xcab

Went over Saturday to work on it a little more but didn't get as much accomplished as I thought we would... We ran out of gas for the torch and after we got the driver side done realized we have to pull it back apart and cut down the bag cups. Also ordered my control arm bushings and the ****ing jackasses sent the wrong ones but have the right ones now and will be back at it this weekend...

Also you can see the driver side pic...its not laying out so we are gonna cut the cups down some,,,im running spindles but the tire size is 205/75/15 is that way to big and part of the reason it isn't laying?

ahhh quitchabitchin I do mad work from a wheelchair daily

you're running those stock wheels/tires right? you should have to cut down your bag cups AT ALL unless you have the 3" one. I cut down my 2" bag cups by 1" to lay out my 22's but your wheel/tire combo is smaller than that.
are your lowers dehumped, notched for tierods or have notchless tierods, have super travel PP upper ball joints installed?? all this is neccesary and you should lay with 2" tall upper and lower cups on that wheel tire combo

whats your tire size again I couldnt find it

Re: 97 xcab

yeah i dont know what size cups i have but tire size is 205/75/r15...they look small so didnt think id have trouble laying...no only thing thats done is belltech 2" spindles...i wasnt over when they put the wheel on and jacked it up so I dont know about the tierods hitting...lowers arent dehumped because I didnt think id need it to lay on a 15"...will be going back over saturday to see whats up with it...oh well this is a learning process for me my club has done it all before but im just wondering about stuff as we go..

Re: 97 xcab

Yeah man, thats a tall ****ing tire. 27.11". You may get away without notching for the tierods, but you will def be dehumping lowers, and doing something with your heater box.

Re: 97 xcab

You can use whatever you have laying around, i wouldnt go less than 1/8" though. I went over kill and used 1/4" (thats what i had laying around lol)

You can either dehump them, and do 2 fillers on each arm (1 per hump), or plate the whole damn thing and eliminate the lower bag cup.

Re: 97 xcab

Thanks Matt! this is my 2nd metal brace I've had to wear first one i got use to but this one i believe they hit a nerve and it will make my leg start twitching..Been in pain since they put it in and it rips my skin...only thing that helps is thinking about my truck and getting to drive it for the first time

Also I got my all clear tails in the other day now my brother is sending my new radio and billet grill out Monday and also have a deal worked out on chrome 18"s so can't wait!!! Truck will have some good progress but couldn't do it without my brother Jake or my 2nd fam/club DRAG ADDICTS

Re: 97 xcab

Small update but update none the less! I had a couple of problems and spent a little time in the hospital then also had surgery so truck was least of my worries for time being...

i know its taking a while but its technically only one person doing it and he works a full time job and has a family so im not rushing him...plus im still not able to drive so im in no rush!

I ordered some upper control arm bushings and got the wrong ones...oh well **** it I finally got the right ones and we got them pressed in and put back on.. Pass side is finally cut for the bags and bags installed...so just have some stuff to tighten up and put the wheels back on but it was pouring and we had a little canopy set up but still got muddy and soaking wet......also got the stuff to delete abs so thats next...I got my all clear tail lights,my radio and billet grill...

here are a few crappy pics but front will be fully plumbed and finished next weekend

Re: 97 xcab

Good looking project man. If I've learned anything in the process of building my truck it's been take the time to do it right the first time because it'll save time in the end. IMO I'd do the lowers and firewall while you got it torn down.

Re: 97 xcab

Mr. cripple,

If you look in my thread I just dehumped one of my lowers a few days ago. I used the same thickness plate as the lower. You will also need to trim on the frame where the lower connects. Basically a little notch in the top of the front mount. And a little piece off the front on the rear mount. You will see where I'm talking about after you dehump and put it in to test travel.

Currently have the rear bagged. And still have some work left to do on the front. Mines a 95 ext cab. However they are the same and you can use for reference.
