65 ford shortbed

been gathering parts for this project since the summer. got most of em so i started the tear down and such last week...
i bought the truck(s) at the goodguys show in the summer ( 3 for 750 bux). i took all the good stuff off em to make one and sold the other 2 a month ago.

plans include camaro subframe, bags of course, 4 link, new 350 and 700r4, and my coys 20's. i wont be painting the truck ( anytime soon at least) gunna rock the whole "pulled off the farm" look.

pics
before the tear down...

this is the one im building

Re: 65 ford shortbed

the sub frame is to wide, the one pic you can see where i split it at the seam, if you do that on both sides its perfect. fits in side of both frame rails.

thats a 62... i have a 64 impala wagon also. those are next this is a quick one, im gunna make it my driver beleive it or not!

Re: 65 ford shortbed

got some more done the last couple days. had to get a 4x8 sheet of 3/16th and a stick of 2x2x.25 for my 4 link( beef!)

i put a 2x3x.25 inside the frame under the cab and cut the off the bottom of the frame.... the stock frame as a taper on the bottom that makes the truck lay on it before the body gets to the ground. once i do this and section the engine cradle i should lay body

this is the plate that'll go over everything, i'll also do one on the bottom

Re: 65 ford shortbed

well got the front tore apart...jezz, i forgot how big fullsize vehicles coils are and how shitty 30 year old stuff is to take apart! and without a motor to hold it down, i had some fun taking the lower spindle bolt off frame jumped about 5 inches off the stands

oh and the ups man came! i love that guy. i got my drop spindles, my ends for the 4 link, diy cup kit, and rear side link mounts. i also have picked up new rotors, calipers, bearings, pads, balljoints, bushings, and tie rods.... ol lady's gunna kill me

check how huge these sqaure 4link ends are!!!!

Re: 65 ford shortbed

damn lookin good, cant wait to see a body on this frame!

not to high jack the thread or anything... but a question for ya

dont know if i missed it or not.. but what year range camaro is that sub frame off of? Also what size are the brake rotors? Basicly im just wondering, since those drop spindles look allmost identical to an s10's spindle minus the brake caliper mounting area... just wondering if theres any chance the s10 guys could swap out the camaro spindles and brakes to end up running a larger, better brake setup for dirt cheap?

Re: 65 ford shortbed

dave i measured the rotors and they're 11in and the caliper piston is 2.75.... i honestly have know idea what a s10's is. i think when i start back on the customers truck ima take his spindle and rotor off an see if it'll fit. the camaro spindles were 50 bux more, but like you said look very similiar! the year range was a 71-78 i believe, mines a 75 for sure and i think they run from 71-78.

i know some people hate that... cant wait till the f100 nats this spring
i had a 351 cleveland and a 300 6 cyl outta the other trucks. but i know nothing about ford motors and i sold them for enuff to pay 75% of the rebuild on my 350 i already had, and i know sbc's pretty good. plus i didnt wanna have to make motor mounts and such... i kept the 9in if that makes you feel better

Re: 65 ford shortbed

well looks like i got some good news on the front end
i eyebrowed for the bag and lower arm, did a bit more trimming , and bam i can lay a 28in tall tire without a pie cut upper! i think ima plate the lower arm instead of a cup, the spring pocket is huge and deep. i should be able to runa 2in tall upper cup and a re7 just fine.

pics of the front setup "jacked up"

Nice, looks like no camber either.

As far as Fords in Chevys, Chevy is cheaper to build. And if for some reason something breaks 400 miles away from home, at a show, every auto store has that part on the shelf.
