1963 Chevy 2 Street/strip Build

This is a car we picked up today off of craigslist we drove about 1.5 hours each way to pick it up. I will be doing all of the fabrication work because the owner has no previous experience with it. The car will be a garage built with a decent budget, so try not to rag too much. When we picked it up he had no drive train in it. Had full interior but water logged and terrible so will only be keeping the dash. The car has the usual rust for something this old floor pans truck pan ext.. Tear down of the Car begins tomorrow after work. I will log the entire build in here and take alot of pics. Would greatly appreciate it if other guys with Chevy 2/novas would post build threads or pics in here.

Plans
  • Fix the rust
  • tub it
  • lower it
  • 4 link with a track bar
  • Cage it
  • 6.0 with a t-56 or SBC with a auto not sure yet
  • The car already has a narrowed rear end

I know its not much to look at now but should be pretty nice when its done.

Very cool. My cousin runs a 64' shoebox. Not much for the street anymore, but it runs a 9.64 A 140'ish mph..

Re: 1963 Chevy 2 Street/strip Build

Work has been absolutely hectic so i haven't been able to tear into the car at all this week. But because i am in the army and we get every holiday off we have a four day weekend this weekend so the car is gonna be tore apart and the body is gonna be braced and get ready to start of the floor pans.

Some better pics of the car...there should be lots of pics of progress this weekend.

Re: 1963 Chevy 2 Street/strip Build

Some tear down progress from today. Tomorrow we want to get the front window out the rest of the trimming out and we are gonna rapid strip disc the whole car and find all the rust then I'm gonna start to weld away. This coming week the owner shoulld be ordering tubs, driver side rear quarter, passenger side fender.

Re: 1963 Chevy 2 Street/strip Build

Sorry there hasn't been any progress i have been sick as a dog and busy as a bee at work so here are some parts that have arrived, will be burning them in this weekend.

90% of the car is stripped found alot more rust and bondo so that will be taken care of but first the floor. We have patch panels for both driver and pass floor pan and there is a truck pan on the way and a new pass fender. I also fixed most of the dent in the passenger side door.

In that case, it had rust forming when it left the car lot when it was new. Rust came standard on all Minnesota based vehicles. Ever.
