Re: Here I go again
thanks a lot man. I had a few bucks saved up for projects once I got a different truck. I have a little left and which will most likely going towards the bass portion of my car audio build. Ill do my components and amp a little later this spring.
I have a soft flush mount cover on order too right now. I hope to get it next week. Im also going to go talk to a bodyshop near me to see what they would charge me to have my gate shaved, ss mirrors painted and portions of my grille painted also. That will probably be completed early to mid summer. |

Re: Here I go again
yeah its not bad. If I did it again id consider going with a black one simply because I didn't think about this blue fading overtime. It may or may not be that bad, but we will see.

Re: Here I go again
Got the grill shell all painted up. I scratched it pretty good on the bottom putting one of the turn signal lenses in. I might sand that back down and re- spray it. Overall I think It looks good.

Re: Here I go again
i have one of those covers on my truck and eh....im not a fan of it, i think i threw it away actually, but yours looks really nice, mine was kinda a piece cause i bought it used. only problem i had was with my shaved gate i had to leave the straps a little loose and when there would be a severe storm or real strong winds it would loosen up the straps from the puling and a couple times the cover flew off the truck lol. but yours definitely looks a lot more trustworthy than mine is haha

Re: Here I go again
Straps? Mine does not have any straps. It has two struts and to "lock" it down there are two little handle like things that turn under the bed rails. It wont go anywhere.
I do plan on shaving the gate (hopefully soon) and I will leave those handles unlocked and use tension from bunjee coards to hold the cover down secure. The struts do a good job keeping it down but the bunjee coards will be more for backup. This way I can lift it still and get to the handle, then disconnect the bunjee coards. |

Re: Here I go again
Truck looks good! I wish I had either set of wheels! I just got done with the carrier bearing cross member from SD last weekend, actually! My arms are sore as HELL! I need to start working out! lol It took me quite a while, as I hadn't done it before, but after I got rolling on it, it went very quickly! I got the raw version and painted it flat black. The hardest part BY FAR was removing the rivots from your old cross member. WOW! What a pain! I found that if you cut the old cross member off AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE to the frame, then cut the hump itself off from under your frame, you can actually get a grinder (grinding wheel, or cutting wheel. I used the cutting wheel and cut lines all the way through the heads of the rivots maybe 5 or 6 times. That seemed to be the fastest and easiest for me) to all of the rivots except one tricky top one by the exhaust on the passenger side. Yours is probably different, as you have the 4.3. After cutting all of the rivots, I used an air chizzle to pry the mounting plate off the frame. From there, it's all gravy! Just make sure you support your drive shaft when you remove the old cross member. I supported mine with the jack, then had to raise the truck a little more, so I tried to support it with a box, but it wasn't tall enough. It dropped quite a bit. Not too bad to put back into place, but I wouldn't chance it. I don't have any pics of the finished product yet, but here's my before pic:
![]() This weekend I'll snap some finished pics. Good luck with yours! |

Re: Here I go again
Wow. Didn't know the rivots would get mushy if heated... There are wires just above the driver's side ones and fuel lines as well! WTF? How'd you work around that? Cutting off the cross member was super easy with my new sawzall. It took maybe 30 seconds each side. Trying to grind or drill those damn thing was the only difficult part. I'll try the torch next time
