ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
havnt posted in a while so figured id let everyone in on what ive been doing with the truck...
i pulled out the 350 and put in a 385 stroker motor i had built, sold the chrome irocs ran a set of used weld pro stars for a little while, and then bought some billet specialties street lites. its getting there, i have a ford 9 inch housing im building with 4.56s. im also putting together a 2 speed power glide with a trans brake for it. and most recently i picked up a dash out of a 1960 bel air that ill be retroing into the truck at some point. anyways heres some pics old and new. ![]() ![]() ![]() the following is most recent. wheels are 15x4 15x10 mickey thompson all the way around with a 295/65/15 in the rear ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i just put the truck back together mid sept, and have been toying with it. the fuel system needs be upgraded because its running out of fuel pressure up top, i have everything for that(cell, electric pump, regulator, filter) other than lines and fittings. when i do the 9 inch install i plan on narrowing the frame a little bit to bring the wheels in a half inch on each side and set the rear up with ladder bars and coil-overs and drop the rear to be as low as the front. its hurting with a 30 inch tall tire and only 3.73s its only trapping around 4900 rpm truck runs pretty good for what it is, stock rearend one wheel peel.. i was 4-1 on the street this year with a group of guys who do things on friday and saturday nights at a certain spot we have marked out.. let me know what you think... and any questions ask away! Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
ill fix the stance when i do the rearend swap. right now as it sits the tires wont tuck. so im planning on ditching the leaf springs for coilovers and narrowing the frame, dont want to tub just move the frame rails in about an inch on each side.
as far as the track it was mid 12s only cutting 2.2 60's and trapping around 4800 rpm due to not enough gear. after i finish the rearend, fuel system, tranny, and fine tune everything in the truck, im expecting to see it in the mid to hi 11s then ill toy around with some spray. we kind of threw it together so i could have it out for a month before the snow. ando anymore pics? info? thread? Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
i thought about it at first, but big tires doesnt mean your fast. i find it much more impressive to see a car that runs good with like a 10 or 11 inch tire. the most id go is like a 325/50/15. nothing biger than that. i want to still be able to run against others on the street, and huge tires scare some people away lol. |

Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
Bad ass truck man, cant wait to drop a V8 in my X one day. The 325/50-15 is a beast of a tire, we run them on our camaro and my mustang, IIRC they have about 13" or so of rubber touching the ground even though M/T says 12.1ish.

Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
sick lookin truck, that 30" tire is killin ya with 3.73s, you def need more gear like 4.56s if you still want to run that tall of a tire. if anything go smaller less weight plus you can use less gear
im hopin to do an ls1 swap into an s10 once i get some money saved up, hoping for low 11 high 10s with nitrous |

Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
ta^ guy i hear yeah man, i didnt put the truck on the road until adirondack national weekend. got the new motor in and running, and drove it to lake george lol. i spent a lot of time on the bike this year. idk if ill have the truck out to much longer but definetly see yeah next year sometime.
as far as everyone else, thanks for the comments. height wise id really like to run the tire, obviously it will be tucked more when i sit the ass end where i want it. ill make a thread for the 9 inch when i start getting into it. so far i have the bare housing with a stock center section with 3.10 gears. my plans are to set up the 3.10 gear in the stock unit for the highway, and set up a set of 4.56s in a strange aluminum center section for play time. ill be running spools in both with 35 spline axles. |

Re: ben a while.. time for some pics and an update 56k FAIL
thanks guys... lots of credit to my father for his help and knowledge with the oldschool drivetrain. me and him did just about everything on this truck. we started the body work on our own, and i ended up working out a good deal with someone to finish it and paint it. other than that i payed $500 for it and have done just about everything myself with the help of my father and close friends. its seen a punch of different wheels. 1st and 2nd gen zq8s, the irocs and now these. i just love these trucks, currently drive a 2 dr blazer and have a 97 zr2 i someday plan to do something with. used to have a nice white truck some of the older members may remember. and i have my 1st gen blazer thats collecting dust and needs a power plant.
