either truck will be getting a LS1 and 4L60e

My guess would be a 1st gen short box 2wd, with little to no options.

Re: weight difference between 1 and 2 gen

on average, how much heavier would a 2nd gen s10 extreme single cab short bed stepside be over a first generation single cab short box?

just looking for a rough estimate. nothing exact. if its only a few hundred i would sacrifice that for the styling of the 2nd gen. its more my style.

here is my current truck

im wanting to take the drivetrain from this truck and stuff it into a s10. my current best in the 1/4 is a 11.65@117 from last weekend in texas heat. spun through 2nd gear.

thats my main reason for swapping it to a s10..lighter weight and better traction.

Re: weight difference between 1 and 2 gen

My 2003 S-10 regular cab with a stepside weighs about 3050 lbs. I have a 50-70 lbs tonneus cover on the back, so you could probably subtract a bit from that total. Here's a simple diagram with the corner weights and info when I had it corner scaled.

I don't know what a 1st gen weighs, but I hope this helps give you some kind of comparison.

Re: weight difference between 1 and 2 gen

my 99 standard cab short box weighs 3600 with out me in it but i do have about a 200lb box,20's, and a different engine. I will tell you that the frames are boxed farther down on the second gen vs the first gen. The crossmembers for the tranny are different too, the second gen is heavier built, imo i'd rather have the second gen for the extra support vs the first gen's lighter weight.

Re: weight difference between 1 and 2 gen

dude, i know im late, but you ROCK!

thats the best answer ive seen through all of my searching. everything else says that the trucks are up around 4,000 lbs. i found a 2001 s10 xtreme for 1,500 that im going to look at today. no motor and no transmission. perfect for what im looking to do!

No front diff or axles in the front. I have a/c delete and no power anyting. And yes it has the 2.8L v-6 with a 700r4. Running the 5spoke 4x4 rims and had lt235/75r15 tires. I had it basically all cleaned out nice no sub box and its a reg cab LB. And thats what the scale said @ the dump after my load of carpet and sheetrock that put my truck in @ 5600lbs going in.

Just a thought, but it may be the type or calibration of the scales you were using. I wouldn't trust those scrap yard / big truck scales. The scales I used were the Longacre Racing digital scales that measure all four wheels and give you your corner weights and front and rear weight differential. I have more faith in those readings than any other scale that might be out there.

Yeah but with a certified scale I can get my weight on my registration lowered so that I pay less for renewal. I pay the same as a 1ton truck since the DMV has the weight @ 6800lbs.

My Xtreme reg cab with a SBC with iron heads, 700r4, 15" steel wheels, and a fuel cell weighed 3240 without me in it.

Re: weight difference between 1 and 2 gen

id say get a 2nd gen and make it lighter..

if its going to be a drag truck theres a lot of things you can do to reduce weight. take out the inner fenders, fiberglass hood, take out the HVAC system. aftermarket seats. suppose you could throw a light soft bed cover on it and cut the bed floor out.

btw my second gen was about 33-3400 with me in it.. and im no lightweight either. sbc, havnt removed the hvac or inners yet. stock gas tank. cant remember if that was with the 18s or drag rims either. ill be weighin it again soon with no hvac and no inners.
