Stang GT vert

whats with these 94-98 gt stang verts pulling up to me and reving???? i have a kid i graduated with im me and was like ill walk your shit pile in a race... i was like ya whats done to the rustang???? he was like completely stock plus a saleen body kit. i was like well i dont know about your car but 98 stangs stock run 15.7ish stock so it will be a good race cuz i went 15.8 last week with a 30 mph head wind so we'll see whats up.

so i ask him what he is doing saturday, he was like hanging out with the woman and her friends. i was like cool bring them all out and show them that your car is for the girls and a stock chevy V6 will run ur ass and he signed off.

Re: Stang GT vert

98 GT's do not run 15.7's stock, more like high 14's stock so chances are you're going to get your ass handed to you.

Re: Stang GT vert

save the embarrasment. personally, i don't know why people rev when they see a low rider truck. i'm not into lowriders but i have no problem with them. the other day as soon as i got my new muffler put on, i was on the phone telling one of my friends about it and revving to let him NOT hear it and some asshole in a older f250 with pipes starts reving at me. i was like wtf? but as the mustang goes, dont' race any 5speed stang. you will be embarrassed. as autos go, lol just run and laugh in your rear view.

convertible stangs are no problem. I beat one at the track... it was a 97 GT convertible 5-spd he ran a 16.1 and i ran like 15.7. Don't get your panties in a bunch just because it has the mustang nameplate.

Re: Stang GT vert

ok, coming from a previous(future) owner of a mustang the 96-98 poostangs are nothing to sneeze at. IMO the 4.6 is a POS motor comparable to the 2.2 in my truck especially with an automatic transmission. With a 5 speed they are moderately fast, but nothing that can't be beat by a 4.3L s10. Most of the POS kids that drive them have to run spray just to say they have a "fast" car. Good luck to the original post-er and I honestly hope you shame the guy with his 4.6 b/c they are just as bad as the rice community.

Re: Stang GT vert

oh by the way a 4.6 gt stock has only 215 hp and 240 lb-ft torque. compared to your 190/230 or whatever in a similarly weighted vehicle. put a CAI, high flow cat and cat back and you should be running with those big 4.6 boys

Re: Stang GT vert

already done. and i am not and never have feared 94-98 stangs. i know i can beat him, just nice to see that everyone is saying and acting like they know what they are talking about and they dont. i know what my truck can do and what a stang can do so well just see when he is behind me.

thanks badass and slow2.2 for bringing something factual to the topic.

early 4.6s sucked, i remember reading motortrend when they pulled out the 5.0's, a stock 3.8 v6 camaro was running a few tenths faster than the early 4.6 , im not a fan of mustangs but my buddy had a 02gt bone stock and had no problems chewing up the early cobras and older modded 4.6's, still couldnt hang with a lt1, and going after ls1's was like putting a mini cooper in a nascar race

Yes, faster than your truck, you are correct. When your bolt on pickup starts clicking off 6.8 0-60's, let me know.

Re: Stang GT vert

well i dont know doesnt really matter about 0-60 in my opion cuz if we race and he runs a 15.7 and i run better then my 15.8 i dunno i guess it will be close right???? i went 15.846@86.15 60' 2.268 and i had a 30mph head wind. a friend with a srt-4 his best was a 13.6 and he had run 13.3's the hole day before. so the wind was affecting everyone

OK well if the stang runs to 60 in 6.8 seconds, easily beating you to 60, then you're telling me the non existent top end power of your stock cammed 4.3 is going to overcome that faster 0-60 of the mustang before the end of the 1/4?

stock for stock he runs .1 faster. i have intake and exhaust. and i went 15.8 with a 30 mph head wind. so i think if i get a good launch and he does too then we will be right about even. and his car is stock+steel cobra hood and body kit= more weight then stock + girls in his car but still i dont think i will have a problem staying right next to him

I doubt it. Maybe if he had a carbon fiber hood he would be running low 9's.

Well technically he really never said he would win. He just said that it would be a good race and that there's a chance he could win. With the guy that he is talking about and how it's his first 5-speed I can see him being able to keep up with the guy.

IF what you say is true Mint, I have broken into the 14s. I beat my friends 96 GT. He had no cats (makes a huge difference when you cut all 6 off), had a shifter, jumped the gun, and had an intake. I was surprised to say the least. I doubt anyone cares, but i thought it was freaking awesome! He hates my truck with a passion, and that just made it worse.

I have a 4.6L Thunderbird that will run a 15.7 Stock and a stock V-6 Thunderbird that will run a 15.03 Stock. And I know from experience that a stock GT is faster than the 4.6L Thunderbird.

Re: Stang GT vert

the 4.6 has around 260 HP, not 215. That sounds like an old 5.0 number. The early 4.6 numbers may have been lower but I think that is too low. I could be wrong, it just doesn't sound right.

Kind of a change in Mustangs, but road and track is reporting a 15.1 for the new '05 V6 stang. I am pretty sure it's an automatic they tested. That is pretty good.
