Will my amp power a Type R?
Hey guys, I have a Rf 300s amp and I was looking to upgrade my sub to a Type R 12". Willmy amp provide enough power for a Type R in a sealed box? I'm leaning towards SQ over SPL. Will I need to upgrade my amp??

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
well actually alpine recomends 500w rms for a twelve inch type r.
and although they are slightly under rated, i wouldn't throw more than 750 w at one....and i believe that a 300w rf amp(which is also underrated....would probably put out close to 350w) would supply enough power to do a little damage until he could get an apropriate amp, also, if he ports it, the sub can handle even less power... |

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
Maybe I should look into a new amp as well and put the rf on my door speakers, I didn't realize I could do damage to a sub by under powering it. Good to know.

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
What about a Type S? I'm not looking for a huge sound, just something clean and crisp that is an upgrade over my xplod. If it helps, I listen to alot of jazz, so I ant something that will clean. Ideally I dont want to upgrade my amp right away... But I would if nothing else could work.

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
Like I said, I am really just looking to upgrade from my 12" xplod. I have Infinity reference 6022i's in the doors and I just want something clean and crisp to add to the bottom end.

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
I think you'll be fine with the Typr R. That way if you want to upgrade the amp you'll have the sub.

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
For great sounding Jazz music, a Dayton Quatro can fill your subwoofer needs with EXCELLENT sound. It's also very forgiving in sealed boxes and easy to make a vented box for as well. And it matches your amp just fine too.

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
You'll damage it alright. Punching it out of frustration due to a lack of output! I didn't spell that right, did I? :S |

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
Guys, stay out of this; for the Love of God!
I have a perfectly good, 100% working, hardly a flaw on it Kicker KX450.2 birthsheeted at 502 watts that I will sell to you for a very measly price. Please, just help me get this out of my house; so that I can stop the GF's bitching. I have another amp coming in a couple days, and all hell is going to break loose if it is not gone in :60!!! |

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
Actually If you are looking to use just one Type R 12" DVC 4Ohm(they make SVC and DVC 2Ohm, check onlinecarstereo.com) then you can use the Alpine MRP-M500 it puts out 300watts x1 at 4Ohm and 500Watts x1 at 2Ohm. So if you had the DVC4 Ohm sub it would power it perfectly. Just wire it in parallel down to 2Ohm. I have a Type R 10" DVC4Ohm and this amp in my car and it sounds amazing. 2003 S10- ZQ8 Ext cab

Re: Will my amp power a Type R?
Get the dual 4ohm version, parallel that sucker down to 2ohms, and rip your heart out with that amp. I used to have 1 10" Type R before I upgraded to two, and it did the job pretty nicely for only 1 10". You won't be disappointed. |
