Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

I have a Viper 791 remote start alarm. It's been in the car for over a year now with no problems. Recently the remote key chain thing is eating batteries. I just put a new one in Monday and it's dead already
I never had to change it this often before. Does anyone know what would cause this? I haven't had time to check it but, I don't think the siren has been chirping when I lock and unlock that car either.

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

Just a hint buy I had similar problems with my stocker... Take the whole key fob apart and make sure there is no lint from your pocket or anything that could be depressing the button even the slightest bit... I had a small clump under the plastic that was holding down the lock button so when I'd unlock it would lock again right away... About a battery every other day for a week until i realized what the f*ck was happening.

Are you sure the batteries are dying? the clip that was holding my battery to the circuit board was loose and it would just stop working; I re-soldered the leads on it and it's okay now.

I just took the battery out and let it sit for about 30 minutes and now it shows almost full battery life

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

ok... so this morning I got in my car to go to work and my car freaked out!!!!!! it kept making this clicking noise and all the lights were dim and kept flashing until I disconnected the car battery
What the hell!!!???!!!!
I guess I'm going to have to have it towed to the place that installed it. I thougth Viper was a good safe alarm that I wouldn't have any problems with.

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

your battery in the car is most likely dead... ur remote might be dying cause it might be triggering an aux channel.. do u have anything hooked up to your 3 aux channels? if so it might be draining the battery in the remote and if ur close enough to the car, the car? BTW these remotes break all the time... it sucks.. i've repaired a few but it still sucks!

its not viper that you have to worry about...it is the installer...

battery in the truck sounds dead...and just have them replace the remote...they should not charge you...

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

I just got this alarm installed last saturday. The installer informed me that the remote burns through batteries like crazy. He told me to plan on changing the battery in the remote once a month..

but hey, i love the alarm. the install was good and i'm having fun freaking out people in the cars that park next to me. they can't understand why a truck would start with no-one in it.

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

You guys were right... the battery was dead. I had an Optima yellow top in it. So, I put the factory one back in. I put a new battery in the remote at about 11:00 and it's dead already
Guess I have to spend the $100 on a new remote.

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

tell the fockers about the remote. what it is/isn't doing. have them warranty the remote,.shouldn't be any charge for the warranty. but paging remotes from my experience last about a month depending on usage.

Re: Why is my battery dying so fast in my remote?

my remote lasts about a month to 6 weeks depending on how often I drive the truck. If I know the truck will be sitting for a while I sometimes take the battery out of the remote to save them. Either way, you can get 8 months of batteries for about $6 at walmart.
