Hey thanks man. =) Its not a clean as I'd like it, but im happy with it.

Basically a passive radiator will act as tuned port in a sealed box without the giantness of a huge ported box. The neat thing about them is I can tune them on the fly based on listening preferences. I can tune them to 28hz, 33hz or 38hz. I have them tuned at the factory tuning which is 33hz. The idea is that the sound wave from the speaker bounces off the wall inside the box and pushes the radiator. The installer shop claimed that its like adding a 2nd woofer without adding a second woofer. I don't really believe that. However, I will say that with both the sub and passive radiator, the bass is ridiculously deep, hard, punchy and very clear. I barely have my subs turned up and it slams. I am very happy with the sound of this setup. Hope that helps. =)

This might be a dumb question as I'm not too familiar with passive radiator enclosures, but how is tuning achieved?

Re: sound system show off!!

No no... Not dumb at all.

The radiator dust cap comes off with 5 screws. Under it you have a weight. In the box, it came with 2 other weights that you can swap out. Depending on the weight you use will depend on the tuning that is desired. Hope that helps.

Re: sound system show off!!

That's ingenious. Change the resonant frequency of the passive driver to change the whole box tuning...

Re: sound system show off!!

No kidding. I mean if you want to "try" something, you can.. its simple.. Just swap out the weights.. lot easier then building a new box. takes out the trial and error of the whole thing.

I could see them them being used in say a Single cab s10 used to save tons of space. You could invert the sub between the seats and then have the radiator towards the top of the box. I mean, you'll only need 3" of space between the back wall and the radiator. I'm using 12"s but they make them in 10s. The sub needs only a single cube of air space to slam. You'd loss almost no clicks on your seat.

Nice, that a 10? I'm pretty happy with the Fi and saz.

Here is what is going into my Blazer. Minus the 4002 which is going into the jimmy. 200 ft if needed of 1/0 Stinger, 4 blue tops.

Re: sound system show off!!

Custom made sealed box, 2 10" Clarions, Infinity 610a amp., and some cheap Pioneer deck, works fine for me. System sounds good, nice clear bass, obviously it's not crazy floppy bass because it's not ported, but it's plenty for me. here are some pics...

Made the box fit the cab hump in the back, fits pretty good I think.

The box has a center divider, pics dont show it because I was still fitting the pieces and screwing them together.
And I still need to get corner pieces, maybe some diamond plate aluminum to cover the ugly staples, or I might glue the material and remove the staples, looks bad at the top seam I know.

I like it alot. Question though, are you getting much air flow, if any, to that amp?

Re: sound system show off!!

Ya there is a gap between the back wall and the box, plus I ran the subs for a long time and the amp gets warm but not hot.

Re: sound system show off!!

i'm looking at a extended cab, and if I pick it up, I am going to install a reclined seat behind the front seats and a nice pad across it, and fill the bottom in with my 12" sub and 2 amps, I like long trips and think a reclined seat back there will let me sleep, and cover up all the stuff, anyone done this yet?
