Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
OOOHHH! I'll make the first smart ass comment! Ahem:
"I wouldn't really call it a mount. I kinda just laid them in the trash can." or... "This thread's a day late; trash pickup is on Thursdays." ![]() I digress. Where are/did you put 6x9's in your truck? |

the real question is..... who in their right mind would reinstall 6x9s? conical sound wave out an oval speaker cone equals instant distortion!

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
no im not... but then again this is s10forum. If ya really want to argue about something that "works" but yet breaks every rule of physics, then check out all the reverse 4 link threads.
In comparison saying a 6x9 works is alittle further down on my lists of things to worry about. ![]() |

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
I have heard some great sounding 6x9's in the past too. Right now mine's sporting the stockers.
As far as sound quality, the shape of the speaker has nothing to do with the sound reproduction. Sound travels in waves made by compressing the air around the sound producing object. Since sound naturally wants to resonate in all directions the sound waves are round. That doesn't mean the object producing the sound must be round. Musicians commonly use a tuning fork for perfect pitch when tuning an instrument, nothing round about that. How about that perfect CRAAaCK when a tree snaps and falls to the ground. Nothing around that has any uniform shape at all, but the sound waves that are produced would be perfectly round if you could see them. Anyway I'm not trying to argue, I'm just stating the facts. |

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
.....I has 6x9s.....
![]() It was just a quick fix...that has lasted too long. haha. Went to wally world...bought an xplod amp and 4 6x9s...made a shitty "box" and through the speakers in...they suck, but I prefer the sound over what it was before (Just my opinion) ...No pics though...I try not to bring up the fact that I have them all that often, especially around here... ![]() |

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
I have 6x9s in the factory spots on my blazer, 6.5s in the front kicks tho, nothing in the dash anymore. Memphis 6x9s and they sound better than the factory crap but when/if I ever redo the rear panels I'm gonna shove 6.5s back there also. No amp as I just replaced the blown speakers and crappy factory radio with nothing over the top.

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
bobditts, I talked to Chad on DIYMA about this very thing when asking him about the short comings with the L7's. All speakers have break up nodes, shapes other than round will have enherently more problems.
Here's the thing though; these nodes are going to be audible and apparent in the upper frequency range for a given size driver. Just as the frequency at which a speaker will begin to beam for any given size is fairly predictable, so is the onset at which these nodes will become audible. From this, you can figure that a 6x9 will have an audible difference in harmonic distortion in the midrange as compared to a round speaker when used in a 2 way system, as in a typical coax. This howerver may not apply when being used in a midbass situation, such as the ID and Cadence dedicated midbass speakers; bearing the passband in which they are used. |

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
spherical? really? you are trying to tell me that a sound wave looks like a tennis ball? no, it looks like a cone. I will draw pictures later. I think we are on the same page, just not explaing it well enough. Either way, the cone of a speaker is what hels guide the sound wave to maintain its conical shape. If that speaker cone is oval, it distorts the shape of the wave. |

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
Sound waves are not emitted from a speakers in a conical shape; moreso spherical than an outward radiating deal like you are imagining. Google baffle step compensation, and you'll see the real deal.

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
IN other words , if it calls for a 6x9 make a "plate" similar to the one in post #32 to bolt to the factory location , just use a 6.5 instead of a 6x9 ..

Re: SHOW YOUR 6x9's
That's what I did in my old Blazer. This time I'll probably go with a mid bass driver and a 3/4" silk dome tweeter.

I totally agree, once you have them you don't want anything else. It seems like they are hard to find though.

To each his own. sound is subjective. Even with all the Physical facts taken into consideration. |
