Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
Hey i don't think this is too hard but i want to be sure before i start, can i put a 12" jl w6v2 in a jumpseat box? i had two tens in my old s10, they looked like this
![]() ...kinda like a jump seat box, but with the panel cut and a lot bigger. i just got a new truck and i want a 12" w6 in just the jumpeat location, but i want to make sure they are not too deep or too wide to fit in there. |

Yes, the measurements in my diagram do not take into account the thickness of your material. When the box is together your final measurements should be close to what is in my drawing.

Make sure you screw that box together and fiberglass the shit out of the front. Gosta be strong enough to hold up to driving, and all. looks good so far.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
if i did it exactly like phatboy but i wanted to paint it couldnt i take the stretchy material (on outside) and ONLY put resin on it to paint it, or will the vibration cause it to crack? Im not talkinga bout from the ring to box, i will glass that, but just to make smooth for a paintable surface?

I was going to do the same thing, but I like the way the fabric matches my interior since my interior is still mostly stock. |

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
I dont think I have them anymore. but its easy for you to get them after you build the box. Just set it in there and mark the bottom. I ended up cutting the foreward bold out and putting a bolt and nut through and through cause the stock bolt wasnt long enough. the back one ended up being just right.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
Yes the bolts are going into the box, I used some very large 2 inch washers to hold the box down, and sealed the washers down with silicon, before and after I tightened them down.. Trust me It doesnt leak.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
since im starting my jump seat box this summer i had some questions for the guys that have done this before. this will be my first time fiberglassing so it will probley be a challenge. anyway i was wondering i see some guys on here they used staples to mount their fabrics from the sub ring to the box then i saw some guys talking about model glue, well what about superglue?
and another thing, if i use a fabric like the first box started in this thread how many layers of glass should i use? anyway i would apperate any info you could give me thatll help me with this project. thanks. |

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
staple the fabric to the box, it works the best for this, you would use glue if you were glassing something onto plastic. no matter what fabric you use to start out with, you shoyuld keep adding layers until there is NO flexing WHATSOEVER you should be able to stand on your box and it shouldnt flex, about 12-14 layers should get you there.

You could use that. MDF is the best option. Just make sure you brace the plywood alot and youll be fine.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
I used 1x1 pieces of pine. With my supports being that large I was able to put screws through them from the back and sides. I held them in place with gorilla glue...that shit is strong.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
alright so then ill just get some thick peices to put screws and gorilla glue on it. im probley gonna be using 1 12" kicker with a kicker amp thatll run it, and i herd some guys talking about airpace and shit, idk its confusing to me, but im thinking if i make a box just like you i should be fine right? thanks for all the help man, i dont want to put all this work into a box and then fvck it up. lol

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
i would use hot glue at first, like just a little bit of it, to make sure everything stays where it is, then use gorilla glue around the peices to make sure they never come off.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
Ok I'm going to be starting on Jumpseat boxes for my truck too. I'm stepping down from the HUGE system I had, now I want something smaller and nicer looking.
I have some nice 48lb 10's so I'm going to be making two jumpboxes. Each one will be kinda big: 1.5cu, and they WILL be ported. I'm using a single 4in aeroport in each box. it calls for a 14in long port to get 35hz. So I'll just put a 90 in the port. I also have a 1000watt amp for each sub. So I'm sure that it will pound Yes its Lightning Audio stuff. The Subs are TC-Sound 3hp based. And the Amps are built by Rockford Fosgate. (Weird huh?) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

EH.... not really.
Going from Three 15's in a 13cu ft box, to Two 10's is going to be a pretty big drop! |

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
your not going to have that much more seat space with a 1.5 cu foot jumpseat box, mine for my two tens is 1.6 cubic feet gross and its on the passenger side and the passenger seat cant lean back very far without hitting the box.

Those Cone's are teh gayness!
They do move a lot of air for 10's even with the tiny cone. The jumpbox's are on hold until after Texas Heatwave, i don't have time to finish building even one before then. I have one of them installed in my Civic for right now, its very clear and loud sounding, but its very power hungry. Last edited by nimbyfaygo : 07-07-2007 at 02:21 AM. |

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12
LA is owned by rockford...not made by them. Those subs are horribly engineered. Like toad said look at the cone area. Less cone area means less air displaced. I got a seat box that i have one 10 inch type r powered by a v12 600 monoblock and it sounds great. I didnt cut out the plastic though
