Very very nice man, I have one big focking box for my 10" Type R and was thinking about reclaiming some space! What do you think your total investment in the project was?

Well I had all the shit to do it here, cept the amp and glass matt. So

1/2 a sheet of 5/8 in MDF 20 bucks
gallon of resin with hardner 25bucks
8sq ft of glass matt 5 bucks
1 yard of spendex from jo ann 5 bucks
staples 5 bucks

this project can easily be done for under 100 dollars if you already have the sub, amp, and wiring kit.

You really dont have to be talented to do this, just understand basic wood working, and basic fiberglassing, and basic speaker box building. Really it isnt that hard. This is only my 2nd box ever made.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

I've never glassed...if I didn't wanna be so technical in my box volume for porting it I'd glass for sure.

maybe this summer I'll build a custom enclosure if I get new sub(s)

im gonna definetly cover it. 1st time glassin and i dont wanna spend hours and hours getting it smooth. any tips when covering it?

oh btw, did you use 8 layers or glass? im at 7 right now and wondererd if i should put another one on or just put a couple layers of resin. its redicuolsy strong now, i can stand on with like barley any flex.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

Yeah I used 8 layers...are you using glass matt for each layer...

I laid resin on the spandex then laid down mat, resin, mat, resin, mat, etc... 8 times.

you gonna mount your sub inverted or normal. Im thinking I may wanna change mine to normal to give me even more room, and hide the wires.

So the measurements worked out ok for you.

Would you post a pic of the bracing on the inside for me? Thanks.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

yeah those measurements were awesome. ill get a pic of it in the truck to show how nice it fits.
well it might look a little skimpy on the bracing, but i could stand on it before i even glassed it. my friend said it wasnt strong, so i jumped on it to prove its def. strong enough.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

Yeah a 10 would fit in there really nicely...you may not even need to bring the box out too far past the trim panel...

Looks ok to me ''Myname'' the only reason I braced mine so much was because I mounted the sub inverted so its hanging on the outside of the box instead of sitting on the inside...

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

Mine doesnt rattle anything at all...like nothing...period. Well except for all three mirrors, and my nose on occasion, but other than that, nothing.

I like the boxes you made V8jimmy, and i know yours are better than mine, but I did what I could.

Its been tried, people dont want to pay the price. He does very nice work though, were all just to cheap to pay for quality parts.

Thanks,

That pretty much sums it up, I love doing these boxes and have gotten pretty good at them. But in the past I have had a few people inquire about these and then complain about the price and they can build themselves it for half that. Quite a few lowballers, cutting me down to just the cost of materials. Then they have the nerve to ask for dimensions after insulting me. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind helping people but when they want help because they are too cheap to pay for something that’s a different story.

That’s what I gathered from it, it’s not you phatboy…they know who they are. After the server crash the PM was back in my inbox and it reminded me of what the individual said. Especially after I was VERY reasonable on my prices compared to a local audio shop.

But anyways, FWIW I think there is someone selling a one of those boxes on ebay, you’ll have to do a search for it.

Re: [Project] Jump seat box for orion comp 12

Wanna gimme those rims?

And when I get home I can send a picture of my box, its like a 20" high 36" long and 14" wide box holding two 12" infinity references and a 611a infinity amp

I just cut out the bracket holding the jack and tire iron in back with a cut offwheel and ran the wires through the hole in the carpet from the factory, and somehow fit the jack and iron in the fold down seat hehe thinking right there
