Re: New System in the making!!!!
Oh ok then i need to refigure some stuff!
well either way i will be running 19" long ports. and i will still have enough air space total. and it will be tuned between 32-35 with 4 ports and 43-45 with 6 ports Last edited by bladehines : 06-12-2007 at 09:04 AM. |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
why dont you use external ports sticking out of the top so it looks like a pipe organ? You could also retune higher at shows like up in the mid 40's for spl, then retune it back down to like 32 for cruisin. Just a thought. I dunno, that might look too goofy

Re: New System in the making!!!!
Yep. it would look pretty goofy. but my idea will work for now. and using 6 ports total would tune the setup to 45 or so, and blocking off 3 of them would tune to 32 or so

Re: New System in the making!!!!
is there a thread talking about port size and dimensions? I'm thinking of building a box for two 10s and I've heard aero ports are a little better. Just wondering how much port placement matters which I assume it matters A LOT.

oh and bladehines: i know you've got some good help for box designs and such, but if you wanted to have a "pete box" he's doing designs again through mobile audio concepts for $60 or so. he could really maximize your output if you wanted to squeeze a little more out in SPL Last edited by juddspaintballs : 06-13-2007 at 06:33 PM. |

I've been eyeballing that same xover. Can't decide if I wanna go ahead and pick one up, or hold out for the Premier 880PRS that I had my eye on (which has a built in xover)...

Re: New System in the making!!!!
question for you guys??????????
if i decide to keep my MTX 1501D do you think it will be enough power? The subs will be rated at 250 watts. and the ohm load will be .8 ohms total. I will have 4-5 batteries total for power. and 10 subs. The amp should do 2000+ watts at .8 ohms so that would be 200 watts a piece. I think i am getting more power then that now though. whats the best way to check power output of my amp to see what i am currently getting at .5 ohms??? |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
Well i unhooked the power wire from my big amp. i will soon be taking apart the whole thing! i am gonna tear it all down and see what i broke on the box to make it rattle so.
Also going to try and see what the 3 batts are gonna cost me that i am putting under the hood. yes i am putting 3 under the hood in the factory spot. the power master batteries i am getting are 925's. they are 6.5 long, 6.93 wide, and 4.92 tall. and put out 1200ca a piece. i plan on having one on the very bottom below where the factory battery would go, then 2 on top of that. i think it will look nice when i get done. so that is my updates for now. i will try and get some more later. |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
usually it is hard to get sponsored. the sponsors have to see that you're willing to spend the money to have a loud vehicle and do it properly and also see you at a bunch of shows. if you can't make it to lots of shows, you wont get noticed

Re: New System in the making!!!!
OK let me get this straight....I spend the money, put in the install time, Make it rock.......Then I might, if they see me...Get a sponsor..... If I have done all of this......what is the advantage of a sponsor...Another sticker for the ride....????? Sounds kinda unfair to me..."If" I have the stereo of my dreams and win shows already....Why get a sponsor??? |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
To help you out about your amp choice. I don't think that 200 per sub will cut it.
For competion I'd want to send at least 400watts each to the subs. I know. I've never seen the new 8's, but I'm sending 200 watts each to my RE 8's and they handle it without a problem. And I'm sure that the FI 8's are going to be less sensitive and take a lot more abuse than the Re's. |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
true i work with Scottie Johnson so i know about sponsers. he started out like me getting small discounts and what not, now he has probably 20 sponsers. we get wheels, tires, bodykits, speakers, amps, wiring, entry fees, hotels, food, all for free. some of the time food and hotels. but everything else we always get for free.
you just have to work up to the free stuff and settle with discounted stuff for now. when you can get that. |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
as for me, i'll stick to getting discounts through people i know. i'm not into SPL or even SQ competitions, i just like a nice everyday setup and i like to build it myself. i'm getting into learning some of the physics behind how it all works and its pretty interesting.
by the way, if ya wanna have a good time with some bassheads and learn a bunch of stuff at the same time... October 7th in Augusta, GA Pete Kulicki and Mobile Audio Concepts are hosting a get-together for anyone interested. It's to promote MAC and to put faces with usernames on many audio forums. Re: New System in the making!!!!
cool. hey Judds you know anything about the 40.1's?
i hear you can't go below 1 ohm. they don't like it. but my setup will call for .8 ohms before impedence rise. you think i should be in the clear? and at 1 ohm it does over 4000 watts at 14 volts |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
i'm not the expert on it, but i believe that .8 should be safe. usually the 1 ohm rating has a bit of a buffer with it. have you seen any bench tests lower than 1 ohm?

i think you'd need a battery isolator for your audio batteries so you don't drain your starting battery

Re: New System in the making!!!!
also should i need a fuse inline for the feed fire between the front and rear batteries.
also i have heard isolators cause bad voltage drops too. so i probably won't run one. i may run a ciruit breaker to disconect the front and rear. |

Re: New System in the making!!!!
Unless all your batteries are identical, you should run an isolator between the different banks. A diode type isolator should cause a 0.6V drop. Otherwise the different capacity batteries will fight each other and cause problems over time. Another way of isolating the battery banks is with a high-amp solenoid that is triggered by alternator output. Since your alternator will be charging the batteries, the batteries won't charge and drain each other. When you shut the truck off, the solenoid opens and the banks are isolated. You should put a fuse inline anywhere a cable leaves a battery bank. For example, in my truck there are 3 different fuses in line between my battery and my distro block in the cab. One just off the positive terminal of the starting battery, and two in the battery box in the bed. I have a 1/0 cable running from the fuse at the starting battery to the battery box in the bed, and then another 1/0 cable going from the battery box to the distro block in the cab. I don't have my second battery or isolator yet, so for now I just put a short piece of 1/0 between the two fuse blocks so there's continuity thru the whole thing. In the future all I have to do is put the isolator inline, cut the short piece of wire between the two fuse blocks in the bed, and hook the two ends to the positive terminal of the second battery.

Re: New System in the making!!!!
i will have 3 the same batteries, and 2 the same.
so i need my main lead from the front going to the rear needs a fuse. what size? ( 350 ) Then i need an isolator in the tool box connecting my front batteries together, to the rear batteries, right? or i can run a solenoid, but i will need something that can hold the amps from the alt. ( which i perfer this method, but if the solenoid ever goes out then it may start draining the batts ) what size solenoid do i need? the front batteries are rated at 500amps each @ 32 degrees F. the rears are rated at 1200amps each @ 32 degrees F. |

SR 200 stinger. but it looks like i would need 2 if i need it be over my alt. amps.??? I perfer to use tsunami but they don't make anything but isolators

Re: New System in the making!!!!
You'll need the isolator or solenoid to be able to handle the max current from your alternator. You could run two solenoids in parallel if necessary. For your setup, the solenoids would probably be best. As for the fuses, I'm running two fuses on the line between the main battery and second battery, one at each battery. That way if there's a short somewhere under the truck both batteries will be protected from causing a fire. Then I'm running a third fuse between the second battery and distro block. I really need to get around to finishing my electrical system...
