My amp stays on all the time

My truck has been dying lately and I keep having to jump it. I got my alt and battery tested and theyre fine, but I have a 2.9amp draw. Long storys short my amp stays on even when the truck is off. All the wiring has been frayed a little because I have just had the amp and sub on the floor in the back. I had an audio shop install it a year ago and I havent had this problem until now.

Re: My amp stays on all the time

sounds like a wire from the +12 jumped over in with the remote turn on, fix the frays and you should be good to go

Re: My amp stays on all the time

the remote wire to your amp is the "sqitch" to turn the amp on and off. If your remote input on the amp recieves a 12V signal when your truck is turned off, your amp will stay on. Find the source and fix it.

Re: My amp stays on all the time

I concur with the above statements.

However, for the sake of adding bullshit to the thread, I had a very low amp draw somewhere in my system. I have 3 amplifiers, an electronic crossover, several 30 amp relays, and way too many wires in my fuse/ground block. I couldn't for the life of me track down the draw, though it was small. It would take more than a week to drain my battery to the point it wouldn't turn the engine over. My solution was to add a 200 amp relay about 10" after the battery on the 1/0 feeding my entire system to kill any current flowing through it when the key was off.

mount it to a panel before it mounting to the floor, yes the floor is flat under the seat then mount the panel to the floor so that the chassis of the amp isn't electrically connected to the body of the truck
