LOL so true!!! They say 6 to 12ft sealed and 5 to 10ft if vented and that is what I want to do... I think lol I just want to whoop up on this guy we have in town that always wins. So to get 10 it would be 22H 38W 26D with no sub and no vent in it yet. So I was just wondering if there was a set size that the techs use. Like mtx has there jackhammer box and give you step bt step on how to build it size. I was hoping I could something like that?........

Just because you melted a sub doesn't mean its crap, if you feed a sub unclean power or power it more than it suppose to then of course it will blow.

its like me saying that Fi or RE sucks because i gave the sub 500 Watts more than its suppose to have then blew it.

also if you want to go pure SPL and not SQ then go with the kicker 18"

Im not stating that you don't know about car audio but the bold in red pretty much answers why both blew.

So far i have been bumpin my mtx sub for over 3 years now with no problems what so ever, also sub sees max volume just about every day.

btw just curious but whats junk about mtx?

How do ppl like the Soundstream xxx 6500? Could I use that B**** to power the solo X? And yes I am going for SPL. So I think I will stick with the Kicker soloX 18.

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

you can find this amp cheaper easy but this is the frist link i found for it. i know 2 ppl using them and they are monsters. 1 is pushing 4 15s with it other is pushing 2 15s and theres still power left in the amp. its rated as 4000 rms 8000 peak
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=3707
or hell go nuts with the credit card and get 2 of these. i know 1 person using one of these. its just a smaller verison of the first amp. 2500 rms 5000 peak. 2 would match the sub perfict.
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5150

some ppl might not agree with me but i have had VERY good luck with memphis over 3 years with 1 1100 watt rms amp i have been very hard on. and i put my 12s in 2 different things i owned and for the last year they have been in my dads truck.

edit: link showing the beauty of these amps and saying they are over rated 5800 rms the big amps are huge http://www.cardomain.com/ride/804113

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

if you are going to go with a system like this i highly suggest a massive electrical upgrade on your truck first
We just had a kid Fry a mcd4kw on a stock electrical system. he was told he needed a serious electrical system and still tried to run one battery and 105 amp alt. the voltage drop caused the amp to draw massive amounts of current and fry the amp

If you are going with the solox you would benefit from an incriminator audio 40.1, you will still needa very very good electrical but the 40.1 is a much better amp

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

You are probably going to need more than just one yellow top. I have 3 12 jl w6's with 2 yellow tops and still need more power. Also i have a custom built 170amp alternator. You can't go wrong with JL AUDIO. Oh i have a Orion 2400 amp pushing them.

Oh shit really... ok then I guess I will get another one then. oh and I found that 40.1 and its 699 plus ship is that good? it doesnt seem like to much more power then the massive but a few hundred more.

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

i only have a 180 amp rebuilt stock alt with a smaller pulley and a yellow top. with my 2 viair 480s and system all the way up as long as i dont have the lights or heat or ac on my volt gauges doesnt move. its a lot cheaper having your stock alt turned up as long as they know what they are doin and i would run a smaller pulley. it gives u more at idle charge

Daily- 10cf with 150sq inches of port area at 21" long gives you a 35hz tuning

SPL- 10cf with 300sq inches of port area at 9" long gives you a 56hz tuning

Straight from the Kicker website. You had better brace the crap out of that box.

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

it was a stock alt. from my 1994 4.3 and before i burnt it up i was pricing high amp alts. well i work for the gm dealer here in town and i had to take a customers alt. in for a rebuild so i just ask them if they could rebuild my stock one for higher amp. they said they could see what they could do for me and to bring it in they then called me the next day and told me they would do 180 amp easy and they would trust it daily. i lost a little at idle charge but the smaller pulley brung it right back up. id check with your local guys or even somewhat local and see what the best price u can get is.

Re: Kicker soloX 18 box size?

Definitely go with the Solo X 18! I just installed 2 of them in my 2006 F-150 in kickers vented compact box. Powering them with 4 kicker zx 2500.1 amps 5 stinger 1500 car audio batteries and a stinger 220amp alternator. First try they put out 151.1Dbs. I am about to build a bigger box and tune it lower and hopefully get more out of the subs. If you have any questions let me know!
